We just got back from the NYC to San Juan, PR re-positioning cruise. It left NYC 11/5/2016
We had merry time and our group had a special meet and greet with Capt American.
The first three days we didn't even go out on deck. There was so much to do inside. I did
use the pool on day 4 and it was warm enough. I didn't use the AquaDunk but plenty of
people did. Dining Room was fine, Palo Dinner was great. I saw 4 movies while on board.
Doctor Strange, Finding Dory, BFG and Pete's Dragon.

I did the NYC cruise this Fall. It was supposed to be an 8 day cruise to the Bahamas but turned into an 8 day cruise to Canada because of Hurricane Matthew. I have done several DCL from NYC (did 3 in 2012). I love sailing out of NYC. The cruise are fantastic. We went 10/7/16 and we had some very nice days where you could sit outside by the pool...some in bathing suits and some people in clothes. We also had some bad weather. Our friends did the 8 day to the Bahamas and the weather was fantastic. The first and last days were chilly but the rest of the time they said it was pool weather.

We live about 30 minutes of the Manhattan cruise port so I LOVE when DCL is in town!!!

We did the NYC to San Juan repo on 11/5/16. The weather was nice for sailaway. The next day was not quite so warm (no rain though) but there were people swimming. By the second full day the heated pool was fine for swimming. I really liked that this cruise didn't go to Port Canaveral and the Bahamas, which I think is the worst itinerary out of NYC! However, 3+ days at sea was a little too much! I also thought it was a bit weird that it was a "Christmas" cruise 5 days after Halloween....just too soon! We did find plenty to do - my daughter (7) was at a good age to do the crafts, play Bingo, do animation drawing, make towel animals, make a gingerbread house, etc. She also enjoyed ALL the shows (we saw 8). I'd say 3 of the 8 were good. The pool was so crowded all you could do was stand there but she LOVED aquadunk. Food was better than it has been on previous Disney cruises (except for breakfast...yuck!). My husband saw Doctor Strange and my daughter saw bits of plenty of movies on the funnel vision or in our room. We went on our own to beaches in Tortola and St. Maarten and since we arrived in San Juan on Friday, we stayed an extra day. NYC is my favorite port - sailing past all the buildings including Freedom Tower and Statue of Liberty and underneath the Verazzano never gets old! You never know how the weather is going to be at the time of year....my friend cruised the week before (on RCI) and they had nasty rain a few days. We lucked out...it was even in the 50s when we flew back to Newark.

We sailed out of NYC in early October for the 5 night Canadian Coastline itinerary. We loved this cruise! It was a little chilly and drizzling on sail away but warmed up from there. Pirate night was pretty windy and chilly though. It was in the 50's an 60's and sunny most of the time we were in Canada - great fall weather. The last sea day heading back to NY, it was really nice and lots of folks were using the pools. We live in PA, so being able to drive vs having to fly was a huge plus. We will definitely sail out of NYC again. I just wish Disney offered more cruises out of there. I read on the Disney Cruiseline Blog a while ago that there are rumors that DCL is in discussions with Quebec City. If they were to add that as a port I would certainly try to be on that one, for sure!

NYC is my favorite port - sailing past all the buildings including Freedom Tower and Statue of Liberty and underneath the Verazzano never gets old! Curious, in tortola did you happen to go to cane garden bay beach on your own? We have the Baths reserved but hear you can pickup a bus tour right from the port and will drop you at cane garden bay? If you went there, did you enjoy that beach?? Thank you

We did NY to Castaway Cay and DisneyWorld and back. It was great! Sailing from New York is so special, I simply loved it. I would have preferred warmer weather in New York. I rode the AquaDunk many, many times, the water was warm, it was fun. The Halloween stuff was a lot of fun, the ship switched to Christmas while we were at DisneyWorld. I would highly recommend it. We already signed up again for Halloween next year.

No, we didn't. We went to Brewer's Bay. It was okay - big waves so a little difficult to swim but we enjoyed the day. This was our 3rd time in Tortola and we've yet to get to the Baths! We are going with a group on a DVC cruise in August and we're going to go to the Baths then. As far as I know you can get a taxi/van to any beach. They'll wait to fill it - usually takes just a few minutes and charges will vary depending on distance. It's easy to get to the beaches on your own. Make sure to arrange a taxi pickup back.

My DW and I did the October 29 NY cruise to CC and WDW. It was great. We also did the 5 night Canada cruise out of NY a few years ago. We love sailing out of NY and it's easy for us because we are only 30 minutes from NYC. We booked the November 11th cruise out of NY on the Magic for 2017.

I was on this cruise and went to Cane Garden Bay. I just grabbed a seat in the mini-van taxis ($8 per person each way) from the cruise terminal. Totally easy, the drivers were nice. It seemed like a nice beach to me. The town looks nice and there are plenty of chairs to rent.

We're from PA also and are trying to decided about driving up ourselves or getting a shuttle. Where do you park?

We were on a tight schedule pre-cruise, and knew we wouldn't have any time for sightseeing in NYC. So we just drove up the night before and took advantage of a stay, park and cruise package at the Hilton Garden Inn in Ridgefield Park, NJ. The room rate (roughly $280 for the two of us) included room, breakfast, parking for the duration of the cruise and transportation by private car to and from the port. It was a great deal.

You can also park at the port, but it is $40 per day.

We just booked our second cruise out of NYC for next October, 4 Nights to Canada. We cruised in 2012 on a 2 night to nowhere and loved it. We too live not to far from NYC, so we too loved the convenience. Since, I worked in Manhattan for many years and my husbands law office is in Brooklyn we do not do any NYC sightseeing prior to the cruise. But, what a great opportunity for guests who have never been to NYC. The view sailing down the Hudson, passed the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island and under the Verrazano Narrows Bridge is worth the price.

We are definitely looking forward to next falls cruise. Good luck planning.

This is so true!!!! Sailing out of Port Canaveral can't compare to that view. I also would highly recommend setting the alarm and getting up early for the sail back into NYC. It was breathtaking in the dark! You can sleep when you get home.

Did anyone use Disney transportation to/from port and/or airport, or stay at the Marriott Marquis? We can't decide if we should pony up the extra money and stay there or save a bunch of cash and stay at the Homewood across the Hudson. Our plane won't be arriving until about 4:00 PM, the day before the cruise so not lots of time to do anything in NYC.
