DCL Europe Summer 2022 approaching - what are you doing?

ah... we canceled our June 10th Italy/Greece cruise. While things point to the positive, the wheels of change move slowly (come on US-drop the arrival testing already). The first two cancellations were Disney, this one was ours-Strike 3. We have Polynesian club level booked, so we will not suffer too much. The unknowns and not knowing whether the itinerary will be changed-just a deal breaker. Not sure when we will go at this point. Whether we will rebook-when and if they ever release dates for next summer 2023. This cruise took me two tries and several hours on hold to cancel-so I am not too happy right now. It all remains to be seen. I wasn't enjoying planning, guessing, or speculating about how this would all turn out, so it was time to Let It Go...

Back in December we switched from the 6/10 Greek one to the 6/18 Fantasy Western Caribbean and a week at Disney World after. Couldn't take the uncertainty of travel abroad and needed to book our DVC stays while there was availability.

I hope anyone still booked has a great cruise!

After months of pessimism I am finally feeling a teeny bit optimistic for our August Norway Iceland cruise and also feeling glad that we booked that one for 2022 instead of rebooking our 2021 Northern European with the St pet overnight. Flights are booked, travel insurance acquired. Canada has removed entry testing. So unless something changes (which of course it could!) we are a go.

Do we expect good sales for the European cruises?

DCL doesn't do "sales" like other lines do (and that's in quotes because if you do the pre-announcement and post-announcement math it usually is not that much of a discount if any). There may be *GT rates put out but that requires full payment at booking and is non-refundable.

I’m on the August 10th Northern European out of Copenhagen that was supposed to have one day at St Petersburg. As long as they replace it with another port, we plan to go. If they make it a day at sea, we will pass. This cruise is way too much money for two days at sea.

I would expect to see a lot of restricted rates. Non-refundable yes, but by the time they release them so is everyone's cruise. In this day and age, I believe everything is refundable or a cruise credit if you have covid symptoms.

If you follow other cruise lines you'll notice they have "sales" that aren't really sales. They raise the price or keep it the same and offer different promotions. The price never really seems to change. At least when DCL offers GT rates they are actually 20-35% off whatever the current price is.

The cheapest verandah on May 14 Fantasy is 4632 the GT rate is 3542. Med cruise 5846 and GT rate is 4456. I would say that's a significant difference in price. Most of the European cruises have not risen in price since opening day. Any GT rate would be significant savings. I would certainly hold off booking anything if I was in the market for a European cruise,

Yes, those are DISCOUNTS, but they're not called SALES or advertised as such by DCL like other cruise lines advertise "sales".

"Sale" or "Discount" aren't you being a little nit-picky. Disney does advertise those rates I've gotten emails. They are also advertised on this website by the travel agency that runs this site.

We are on that cruise. I started looking at Royal and found a 7-day itinerary that goes to Visby, Helsinki, Riga, Tallinn, and Gdansk. I'm not sure if it originally went to St Petersburg or not. It's a pretty good itinerary and only 1800 for a balcony. The difference would pay for an offseason Fantasy cruise this Fall. I'm not making any decisions yet...not that I could get through to DCL anyway.

I don't know if this has any meaning other than that the DCL website and app are still wonky, but at my 120-day booking for my July Barcelona to Dover cruise, I am able to see port adventures for the first 2 ports (Cartagena and Porto) but not the next 2 (La Corona and Bilbao). Onboard activities (spa, Palo, alcohol tastings, photos, Royal Tea, Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique) are showing as expected. A screen on the app has a button for Nursery, but it isn't working (though maybe that's because I'm not traveling with a young child).

Glad to see a fellow WBPC 2020 cruiser back to cruising. We have a Norway cruise planned (though not with DCL) for this summer as well. It's looking good so far 😍
Actually, we're feeling confident enough that we booked a cruise out of Venice for this summer as well.

I was on the July 30th Northern Europe cruise right before yours. I waited on hold yesterday for 2 hours and 9 minutes to cancel it. I really wanted to go, but there are too many uncertainties and it is too expensive to miss ports. I switched one of our fares to a September Wish cruise and requested a refund of the other fare. This cruise was from an FCC from our Greek 2021 cruise that was cancelled and we won't be able to use all of the funds before September 30th.

Almost exact same case as you.
We were on the July 6 sailing.. canceled last week due to so many unknowns...but mainly because dates conflict with our Wish MV sailing.. moved all funds to the 9-night cruise we had booked for late July.. ended up having excess funds so they refunded us those.. I'm sad about canceling Europe but feel relieved at the same time not having to stress out for the next 3 months... and now we're looking forward to a couple of quiet sailings out of FL in July.
DW was quoted 3 hours last week to do all this but was surprised to get to an agent before that, at around 2 hours.
Will try again for Europe in 2023 when dates are released.

We as well are on the July 30th sailing. Still holding onto the reservation but would really appreciate Disney announcing the replacement port. They are supposed to “later this month” but we are quickly running out of time. Looks like Disney is taking it all the way to the last moment. Guess I shouldn’t be surprised.

Agreed. We are on the June 27th sailing and not a word from DCL about the protocols for European cruises. The Magic leaves on the Transatlantic on May 8th, so we are 41 days away from people getting on a cruise that deals with Europe and still no protocols.

We are holding off on airfare until we are sure they are actually going...
