DCL cruisers who've returned in the last couple of weeks: 1/2 off voucher????

DH came home today and said that a guy he works with would like me to help him and his wife plan a Disney cruise. The wife spoke with a neighbor of hers who "recently" got back from a Disney cruise and raved about it, so now co-worker and wife want to go. That's understandable. LOL My question is, this neighbor told co-worker's wife that they were given a "1/2 off future cruise" voucher because their ship was late in leaving the port on their first day. I do remember the Magic leaving Port Canaveral an hour or two late a couple of weeks ago. I'm wondering if this is the cruise she was on. I know some of you were on that cruise, too. DID they in fact give out these vouchers? It just doesn't sound right to me and I didn't read here on the boards about anyone mentioning this, so I knew where I could come to find out the facts! LOL Knowing this co-worker, he'd try and give DCL a hard time and demand a voucher if the ship leaves late! I'd like to tell him in advance whether his neighbor was "stretching the truth" or not. Thanks!

We've been on a total of 10 cruises. ONE of the 10 had major problems. I wrote to the president of DCL on my return (most of the problems were documented on board), and received a certificate for a discount on a future cruise.

The cruise with the problems was the maiden voyage. Since then, NO, they do not give 50% off vouchers for a late ship, a change in itenerary, etc. In fact, if you read your contract, it says that the ship can go anywhere it wants to, etc.

They did give discount certificates on one cruise when the ship couldn't get into any of the ports of call due to the weather...also gave free alcohol on board. THis was a real rarity as not only could the ship not go to the scheduled ports, it couldn't go to ANY ports. On our cruises where the ports were changed due to weather, there were no discount certificates (see contract).

We were awakened one morning at 4 am due to a fire in the aft funnel. We stood on deck 4 with our orange life vest until about 6am. We did not receive a 50% off voucher. (We did receive $100/stateroom ship credit).

We were on the 2/14-2/21 sailing. We left an hour late due to a late plane landing in Tampa, I did not hear of any 1/2 off vouchers?

We were on the 12-27-03 Magic Eastern, it left an hour late due to a late plane. No coupons here either, and I don't think we deserved any. Since on the Eastern you are at sea for 2 1/2 days before hitting St. Martin, you have lots of time to make up that hour, we hit St. Martin on time...so only thing we lost was an hour at sea. Just ment the Bon Voyage party went an hour longer.

Thanks everyone! I had a strong feeling that there weren't any "1/2 off" vouchers given out for any recent cruises! I'm going to help DH's co-worker plan their cruise but I'm going to strongly emphasize to him how rare it is for someone to be compensated for anything like that.

We where booked to go on the Dec 2002 Magic that was cancelled because of the Norwalk Virus. Disney gave us a full refund and 50% off our next cruise. We booked the the next ship out and while on that cruise , disney offered a 50% off your next cruise if you booked while on board; so we did. We booked our Dec 2003 cruise.

Thanks for this info :) I don't think this was the case with these particular people though, because they just finished sailing within the last couple of weeks. When I talk to DH's co-worker I'm going to ask him for more info about what his neighbor told his wife. I guess you never know, maybe there was a special circumstance, maybe a problem the co-worker didn't mention, DH said he "assumed" it was due to a late sailing. Good grief, you can't just assume something like this! LOL At any rate, I'll get to the bottom of this, one way or the way. Thanks again, for sharing your experience with this.

Also experienced major problems with the Magic before it even sailed on the Maiden Voyage....two delays months apart in the building process, also problems onboard when we finally sailed like no A/C!!! I wrote to DCL and was sent a 50% off voucher for future cruise. Have not heard of any vouchers lately... why would anyone be upset if the ship left late is beyond me unless you had a "hot date" at the next port of call LOL!!!!

In the months following 9/11 DCL gave out $99/person vouchers for 3 night cruises that were good the following fall.

We were booked to go on a 4 day Disney cruise (not maiden voyage, but one soon there after). We were notified that the cruise was cancelled because the ship would not be ready to sail!!! :earseek: They were running just a bit behind schedule.

We got our deposit back and received a coupon for 50% off if we rebooked within a certain date. We just could not get it rebooked.

BUT.....we took that deposit and went to WDW. We stayed at Wilderness Lodge for a week, spent much less $$, and it was just a perfect vacation!
