DCL Cash Discounts - DVC or DC ?

I am not thrilled to waste my points on a reservation for 2003 on the DCL and wanted to know if DVC even offered a cash discount for DCL reservations. If they do, has anyone tried to compare the DVC price with the DC price? I dont need them to make Air/Transportation reservations since I have always found it easier to make my own calls with the discounts avaliable to me, and always received the "lowest prices" compared to any travel agent/expedia type things. So back to original question, DVC or DC discounts yes/no ?

With the exception of the special DVC cruise, I've never seen any cash discounts available via DVC - in fact, depending on how you price your points, cruises on points can be even more expensive than simply paying cash (unless it meant the difference between going and not going on a cruise and I *really* wanted to go, I would not waste my points on a cruise).

DC discounts have likewise been non-existant as I recall - typically only being an onboard credit for some small amount.

Your best bet with DCL discounts is with Early Booking Savings.

ok it is veryu Expensive to go on a CRuise using points IMO
so here is what we would do ,,, and this way u could have some spending money also ......


go to the DVC RENT/ TRADE board on the main page and post the amount of points for rent when u get them rented for ABOUT $ 10.00 each point book a cruise
we did use the points once ourselfs to go on cruise but
it was like when the magic was just starting the 7 day route and we got a cat 8/9 for 97 points each .. was not to bad..

We booked on pts for this Sept. DVC had a savings on the points required per person and also a small savings on the cash cost of those added to the points reservation. Im not sure how much the cash part of our booking was discounted though.

If booking a cruise through DVC Member Services, you must have at least one adult passenger booked on DVC points. The remaining passengers in the stateroom can then be booked with a small cash discount. This is a price contracted between DVC and DCL. You will find that you will pay more than say Early Booking Discounts through DCL, however.

I used points for three of us for our cruise on August 18th. It was definitely a lot of points, but it helped us to be able to do it this year. We paid cash for one of the kids and it worked to be about $675 plus the points. This is for a 4 night cruise. You can work it around that you may be able to do points and cash.

When I lined up our trip using a $10 per point value the trip would have cost us +$1000 over the quoted "early booking savings that the DCL website gave us. So point usage is out, it also sounds like the cash discount even using 1 person on points and cash for the 4 other members would become a loss over just purchasing a full cash reservation. I'm gonna call The DC today but it sounds like they likely will only offer the $50 on-board coupon that I saw on the DC website.

Question - On the DCL website, when you are picking the stateroom of your choise - I noticed the date I picked only had 1 catogory "highlighted" in blue and the rest were in grey. I would assume that the only avaliable room would be the blue choise, but, It allowed me to select a grey stateroom and proceed to practically the pay section. I didnt finish the order and was wondering if anyone knew if they would let you continue to the last phase of the purchase before saying "Selected Room Not Avaliable" - any thoughts ?

as other people have stated, unless u get in on a POINTS
special offered by dvc , then it is a whole lotto points and unless u have whole heap of points to use and r fine with that ,, instead of spending CASH then u could do it..
so even if u book one person on points and others go cash
is another option to use points.... try booking threw Dreams unlimited travel they offer shipboard credits and rebates not sure of current promotions but if u click the link at the top of page
u can check it out they will watch DCL's prices if they go down they will refund the diff. and with the rebates and shipboard credits it will be less trhan booking Threw DCL directly
oh yea u can always get the First time Cruisers credit
all u have to do is ask for it .. if this is first cruise...

We are going to book our third 7 day (eastern) next week for June of next year. I called Member Services last Friday to do some price comparison -- paying cash and using points.

On DCL's site. The total price for cat 11, two adults and two children, no insurance, no air and no transfers was $4,941. Yes, that's with Early Booking Savings (EBS).

The cash price offered through DVC is $1374 per adult and $742 per child.

If you add them up the DVC price is $4,232, $709 cheaper than DCLs price. The cash value per point using DCL's pricing is $9.28 per point.
We are going to use points for an adult and pay cash for the rest of us.

I would recommend putting in a request for a price from Dreams Unlimited for the same cruise date. Try a couple other agencies as well. You may very well find a better price than you see quoted on the DCL website.
