DCL broke my luggage

Our suitcase handle didn't make it through the embarkation process. We are going with the rolling duffle in the future, hopefully it will make it out better. Unfortunately, no matter where you go, it is flung. We have had it smashed to pieces by airlines.

I have also heard that LL Bean has a great warranty on their bags.

I'm sure DCL will take care of this. Once in WDW we returned to our room (after having ME put luggage in the room) to find an extra bag. Red, carry-on size. I was pulling it out to notify someone that they brought us a bag that belonged to someone else and realized it was empty. There was a note that said they apologized for damaging one of our bags and gave us this as a replacement. It has a Mickey Mouse on one of the zipper pockets, very cute. I was shocked, the damage done to our bag was fairly minimal, the bag is still very usable. Hopefully DCL will have equal customer service.

On our last cruise on the Wonder back in November one of our suitcases with wheels arrived in our stateroom with the wheel broken off. When we pointed this out to DCL, they told us that in lieu of paying for the repair they would give us a new suitcase instead. They had a large supply of plain black suitcases to choose from, but they were all smaller than our suitcase so they gave us a carry-on and a medium sized suitcase. It wasn't anything fancy, but it did the trick.

Hmmmm, after reading all this I just realized that when we arrived at the airport and went to remove one of our suitcases from the car, one of the wheels just fell apart. Upon further inspection, we realized that those pieces of rubber we found in our stateroom on the first night were probably off the other wheel (and not a vacuum cleaner like we thought) :confused3 So now I have a carry on with unusable rolling ability. I wrote DCL, but it's probably too late.

Still better than when we arrived in Maui on Hawaiian Air and our suitcases were missing pieces -- one had the zipper handle ripped right off, another had the whole suitcase emblem ripped off which as a result ripped the suitcase fabric, and another one had damage to a wheel. Not sure what the heck THEY do with their luggage over there! BETTER STILL, I'd take the damaged luggage anytime over what happened to an unfortunate family on our flight. Apparently someone was transporting fish and the contents spilled in the luggage bay and the smell and liquid was all over their suitcases. It smelled HORRID and they had an infant to deal with while trying to figure out where to take these stinky suitcases. Of course, I am sure all their contents weren't saved from absorbing the smell either :sad2:

Or get Samsonite with that repair guarantee. That's what I'm counting on anyway!

The Samsonite guarantee only applies to defective workmanship. hmmm. If the cretin baggage handlers are defective workers....;)

We've had so much bad luck with hard-sided luggage I decided to try a soft-side this time. On our January cruise my brand new Samsonite was bent out of shape -- literally, the frame was bent, and the stitching was torn. And this was before we even got to the ship. Do airline baggage handlers have a contest to see who can mangle the most luggage?

When we got home I took the suitcase to a Samsonite-authorized repair shop, and Samsonite sent me a one-time courtesy free replacement of the exact same $200. suitcase. yea! They even paid shipping.

First time I used the replacement suitcase, the cretins left it out in the rain at LAX and my clothes arrived a bit damp, but at least the suitcase didn't receive any permanent damage. yet.

The handle was broken off my suitcase when it was delivered to my stateroom last year on the Med cruise. I showed my stateroom host and the bag was repaired within a day.

Much better than the hoops I went through trying to get a replacement bag from when Delta ripped the wheel off my bag on my way to a 10 day trip to Italy. 3 months after I got back from dragging a one wheeled suitcase across the cobblestones and on/off the train I got a check for a new bag. (I didn't buy a new bad in Italy as I needed proof of the damage to send to Delta and there was not Delta rep in Venice).

True, our year old suitcase handle was broken during our last flight. The airline said they could not do anything about it. :confused3

I called LLbean and they sent me a new suitcase. I did have to send back the old one but did not have to pay postage. LLBean is awesome!

Watched luggage being loaded onto the Wonder 2 weeks ago (in Vancouver)and was shocked at how some of it was handled. I do know the people loading were not Disney employees....
Good luck!

Heading out the door in a rush, so I haven't read all the replies, but wanted to say that our luggage was damaged a few years ago - don't know if policies have changed since then.

We also filled out a form at the port, I was given a number to call and told to take it to a luggage repair shop. I took it in and the guy told me that they don't make the case anymore, therefore don't make the parts anymore and it couldn't be repaired. He wrote me a note saying as much, I sent that with a copy of the receipt for the luggage (it had been a Christmas gift from my mom and she always gives us receipts in case we want to return something :rotfl:) and sent it all off to DCL. Within 2 weeks, I had a check back in the mail for the full purchase price of the case.

I buy Lands End Luggage... So far I haven't killed it and my luggage has been to more places than I have (everyone borrows...)

I did have to get a diaper bag fixed (zipper) and they sent out a brand new one...

This is why you have to carry your wine onboard rather than pack it in checked luggage.

I'm not impressed with DCL and their handling of damages. They are the responsible party, and yet by the time you have to travel to a repair center, or pay for shipping it is a waste of money. They won't pay for travel or shipping just the repair. Unless you live in a large city where there are repair centers you're pooched. Their staff are less than helpful.

:confused3...Wow! A repair center? I've never heard of such in our tri-state area! I do have my receipt, and believe when we arrive at port, I'll be snapping pics of EVERYTHING anyway, that'd be a good time to get a pic with the porter and our suitcase...(If I think about it). I'll be the one bouncing off the walls:rotfl:
