what are everyones thoughts about Disney using NYC as a port again ?

Was very disappointed when the full 2014 itinerary came out and no Northeast port was included. Knew 2013 would be out but figured 2014 would be a go after the success out of NYC in 2012.

I could see it happening, especially if they decide they don't want to do Alaska or Europe one summer. It is hard since its a summer port like Alaska and Europe.

Though I would not want to cruise out of NYC during the dead of winter there is NCL that does cruise out of NYC all year to the Caribben. NYC is not just a summer port.

My parents are leaving on the NCL Gem in 2 weeks out of NYC. We left for Bermuda in May out of NYC.

Actually NCL is about to have 2 ships out of NYC, the new Breakaway will have it's home port there too. We are booked on Breakaway for 2014, Gem for 2015 and did the Jewel for New Years 2013 ;). Needless to say we enjoy cruising out of NYC!
I couldn't believe DCL didn't have a ship out of NYC for 2014, it was the main reason we booked Breakaway. The cost of airfare to Florida during peak travel times is outrageous for us, add the cost of a Disney cruise and it just doesn't make sense.

Do we know if the NYC cruises sold well? If they did, I expect they will be back.

I don't expect they will be going back to Texas anytime soon. :rotfl2:

Us too! We were hoping to be on DCL in summer 2014 out of NYC- now we wre booked on Breakaway Aug 3, 2014, to Bermuda. Love being able to drive to the port! No stress, just vacation ASAP!

And RCCL cruises year round out of Bayonne, Nj- so there is more than just NCL in the area. The rumor mill has the new Quantum replacing Explorer of the seas there in fall 2014.....

Being from the North East I would LOVE to see Disney back in NYC. I would be much more inclined to Cruise if I did not have to pay for airfare!

I believe all the 8 day Bahamma cruises sold out, I don't know how the 5 day Canada cruises sold. It would be awesome if they sailed out of NY again.

But they pulled out of texas, they were going to be their longer than they are, plus they have changed the itineraries a couple of times to try to get them to sell.

People always complain about it being cold on the ship, not being able to use the pools, etc. they complained about the April Hawaii cruise weather for that reason. People don't kind the super cold weather during the winter out of NYC? Do these ships have enclosed pool areas or something?

I was really hoping they'd come back to NYC for 2014! We missed it last year due to scheduling conflicts. Airfare to FL is just outrageous and nearly doubles the cost of the vacation. But I would book out of NYC as soon as they release dates another time.

The NYC cruise did sell very well, the Caribbean seemingly mostly full, Canada not quite, but the Canadian itinerary wasn't particularly compelling, either. Other lines have a few interesting twists for those who "head North". I've done a couple, but even DCL wouldn't get me back unless the $$ were pretty low.
Bermuda, on the other hand, sign me up. And again, other lines do some interesting longer sails, 8-10 days, with a stop at Bermuda, hit a Caribbean island or two, and come back.
My itinerary? 9 nights

Day 1 NYC
Day 2 At Sea
Day 3 Bermuda, stay overnight
Day 4 Bermuda, depart 3 PM
Day 5 At Sea
Day 6 Key West
Day 7 Castaway Cay
Day 8 At Sea
Day 9 At Sea
Day 10 NYC

I'd sail that again and again, from April to October, 2015. Second week of October, NYC to San Juan PR reposition (empty, I guess, due to US laws), winter sailings from San Juan, then a reposition in April 2016 to Europe. Summer sailings in Med and Baltics, then a Transatlantic back to San Juan in October 2016, and back up to NYC in April 2017.

To even out a schedule, 5 nights
Day 1 NYC
Day 2 Boston, or Provincetown or Providence RI
Day 3 Halifax
Day 4 St. John
Day 5 At Sea
Day 6 NYC

Alternatively, given the popularity of the Two Nights to Nowhere in NYC -
Day 1 NYC
Day 2 At Sea
Day 3 NYC
followed by a Three Night -
Day 1 NYC
Day 2 At Sea
Day 3 At Sea
Day 4 NYC

I'd bet a lot of folks would B2B those, for a 5 night relaxation - Based on how the Two-nighters sold, with a lot of parents opting to leave the kids home for some "us" time, and the relative ease of doing so rather than arranging child care for a week, I'd bet that DCL could even monitor the bookings and give kid's clubs CM's some NYC "time off". Win for DCL, win for CM's.

So, there you go, DCL - I've given you a 4 year plan for the MAGIC - and you won't saturate anything, you'll have people waiting for the ship every other year, and you can milk the Caribbean wintertime market. Throw in some sweet airfare deals from the East Coast to PR (which is usually pretty reasonable anyway), do the lesser-visited islands away from the DREAM and FANTASY, and you won't pull guests from the larger ships.

I'll work on the WONDER another day, but you can just send me a nice OBC for my New Year's Eve cruise:rotfl2:

The year-round ships out of NYC do lose "outdoor" stuff the first and last days. But the ships have tons of entertainment options including casinos, and are mostly the type of ships that have large mall-like features inside, so people are able to pass those days. MAGIC & WONDER wouldn't be the type to position in NYC year-round, just like they are not in Alaska or Europe in winter months.
