Hello all! I am the DH of Californiamomof4gls! I have been reading the boards ever since she found them and she finally got mad that i was reading the posts before her, she made me my own account. :cool1:

I recently saw a video on you tube (that i can't post here cuz my wife kicked me off her accnt:sad2:) It details the new renovation of DCA

I was looking for information on how far it has progressed? Specifically the status of the CALIFORNIA letters out in front of DCA. Our last name beginning 'A' I wanted to take a pic of my family in front of one them. We did it last year, but the pic wasn't very good. Also wanted to get an update on the renovation in general.

Look forward to talking with you all. See you in MAY!!

I'm not sure on the progress of the CALIFORNIA letters out front, though I'd imagine they would save it until the very end, since so many people take pictures out there.

Some changes coming to DCA: (they hope on having it finished by 2011 or 2012, I believe)

They are creating a new themed area, called "Cars Land" with attractions based on the Disney-Pixar movie "Cars."

Right now, they have drained the lake in Paradise Pier and are re-theming the "Sun Wheel" into "Mickey's Fun Wheel." The famous Mickey head behind the loop on California Screamin' will have its ears removed (not sure if they've done this yet) to use for the Mickey head on the new, re-themed Ferris Wheel. In place of the Mickey ears over the loop, they will create a "Paradise Pier" sign right over the loop.

Also, the "Mulholland Madness" ride will be re-themed to become "Goofy's Sky School."

Here is the Wiki article I used, with more information than I've given here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disney%27s_California_Adventure_Park#Re-Imagineering_and_Expansion_Plan

Hope I've helped! :thumbsup2

Also, :welcome: to the DIS boards!!

Those links aren't working for me :confused3

The lake will be drained while you're there, so no pretty reflecting photos at night.

Mickey's ears have been replaced with the new Paradise Pier sign on Screamin'.

I don't think they'll be touching the California sign for a little bit yet, because they're taking it away to extend the entrance of DCA out a bit further, and I'm guessing that's going to be a big job.

The letters were still up as of Friday. I don't think they will come down until they start the major work on the new entrance, and I don't think that starts until next year.

Currently they are wrapping up the retheming of Screamin and the Sun Wheel. End of April will see half of the Boardwalk completed and 4 new game booths. Next will be the retheming of the shops and the rest of the south side of boardwalk. The restrooms and the east side of San Francisco street are will be done with the bathroom move and retheming in May , 2009. The connector bridge from the wharf to the boardwalk bridge will be done soon.

Once they are done with San Francisco then they can start demolishing the existing bathroom and Golden Dreams. Next up will be the retheming of the Orange Stinger and Mulholland Madness and possible some retheming to Golden Zephyr and the shops along the north side of the bay.

End of summer or even September will see the start of the Beer Garden. That project is up in the air right now. The plan is to remove the Jumpin' Jellyfish and SS Rustworthy then remodel Pizza Oom Mow Mow and Burger Invasion to make one giant kitchen and restaurant that has patio seating like the Plaza Inn. Talk is of a beer garden but that may change but they will probably do a Plaza Inn type of restaurant there.

Currently they are retheming the Lucky Fortune Cookie Restaurant and that should open in summertime. They are almost done and will soon reopen the bridge from the wharf to the pier.

So have the jumping jellies been removed yet? What about the rustworthy? I wanted to take my littles on the jellies this year.
