DCA new gates, Golden Gate coming down, Edited OP 7-26 with new blog post

We were lucky enough to be there the day the new entrance was opened. Or unlucky enough to have to walk around the wall all the other days. Depends on how you look at it. :rotfl: Anyway, what I immediately noticed is that the GG bridge "competes" with the new entrance. When you look at it and see GG sticking up behind the "towers" on the entrance, it just looked odd. As much as I always liked seeing the GG to be reminded of home (just like in Soarin), I realized it really doesn't work any more. I haven't checked the official site to know for sure, but it seems like that trian will also have to go. The posters on the walls inside the park say things like Carabell's ice cream and Elias department store. So imagine all those store fronts must be changing too.

We won't be back until next summer and can't wait to see the end result!

Looks like the GGB is being taken apart, notice the missing wire supports.

Heading over there this weekend. Anxious to see what this looks like in person.

I did not even think to take a look at the HOJO Disney cam. Smart move! :thumbsup2

Can you report back to us on the progress? And how or if the DCA entrance is already being rerouted? :)

I'll even take pictures, if I can figure out how to resize them and post them here. I haven't done it with this board yet and every message board seems to have a different way that they support photos.

Even a description would be nice. Thank you.

Great Idea Mikey!

Yup, they're changing everything! The train is going away on Aug 1st and pretty much all the front entrance stores will be closing then. I can't wait to see the new 'main street'!

Oh, I didn't realize it would be that soon. Unfortunately, we are letting our APs expire until next summer. So no middle of the year trips for us this time.

Heading out sometime this morning. Taking my new camera and lenses. Going to try and take some interesting shots. Just going to wonder around, not planning on getting on any rides, except maybe Little Mermaid.

Didn't realize that they were also taking out the train! Wow. I love that thing. Really hoping the whole place doesn't end up looking like DHS.

Looking forward to see and hear what you find.

Was there today. The bridge is gone with the exception of the bottom where the monorail track is.

Wow, that was fast. I am glad though. I was hoping it would be done by the time I get there, Aug 1. But then I have to deal with the train removal. Hopefully it won't be too crazy in DCA with all the construction walls.
But I kinda already know that it will be.

Took several pictures but here is my summary. I'll get the pictures uploaded eventually.

You've seen the comparisons to DHS already so I'll spare you that. Part of the old turnstile area is still in place behind the new turnstiles and there is still an area to the right of the gates that is all boarded up and you can see construction equipment back there. If you enter to the right you'll be right up against those construction barriers and have to make an almost immediate left to go around them.

Yes, the top of the bridge is gone but the entire bottom that covers the monorail track is still in place.

The most significant change I noticed was that the construction barriers for the central plaza were all moved out and they've now totally blocked the walkway to the left of GRR. You either have to go through Hollywood and Bugs Land or go to the right near the GRR entrance.

They've also taken out the awnings and all the tables near the rail cars. The train is still there and so are all the shops and Burrrbank IceCream, but all the tables are now gone as well as that railing and the awnings. Good thing too because that construction fence is moved out so far that there would be no place to walk otherwise.

There is also scaffolding over the "Condor Flats" sign that to the left of the walkway toward Soarin'.

They are making great progress on all the rock work over at CarsLand.

Let me know if you have more questions and I'll try and answer. We spent most of our time at DCA today, but we were over at DL some too. Got a chance to see the new pararde for the first time. Very cool!

The tables and cover by the train were already gone last week. We noticed them moved them all around the outside of Taste Pilots near Soarin which we thought was a really good place for them.

One of our favorite things was to get a waffle cone from Brrr Bank ice cream and sit at the tables outside with it and people watch. Sometimes they did shows at the sun plaza we could see. Hopefully they will put some of those tables back or put out a new seating area after they change it.

Thanks for the great pictures. I know there is no way to avoid the walls and scaffolding, but I do feel a bit sad for all those out of town guests who may be here for that " once in a lifetime" trip. Hope they all make it back someday!
