Heads-up for folks in the DC area. At least the following counties have already CANCELLED school for FRIDAY/February 16...Fairfax County VA, Prince William VA, Stafford County VA, Fauquier County VA and Montgomery County MD.

AUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGH.

Because some sidewalks aren't cleared and some side streets aren't cleared. (Did you know there is no Fairfax County ordinance forcing homeowners to keep the sidewalks on their property cleared? Yeah, I checked the last time we had lots of major snow, about two years ago. All sorts of people who lived across from DD's then-elementary school weren't clearing their sidewalks, weren't even putting down any kind of snow-melt.)
Btw, all of the major secondary roads and many of the minor ones are fine.

Because of this latest 'snow day' Fairfax is NOW taking away March 30th, which was a student holiday...I don't CARE, we have plans and DD will miss school that day.
And if they DARE to give me a hard time...

agnes!

I just can't believe they got off tomorrow. I was thinking maybe a 2 hour delay, but the WHOLE day. I'm shocked. Of course, I haven't been out all day so I have no clue what it looks like out there, but my street looks good.

I hope we get no ideas, up here in the Baltimore area.

Add 3 snow days, to the holiday on Monday----TOO MUCH togetherness, for my family.

I was ready to beat 2 kids yesterday, for trashing the house. They did better today, because they were threatened. Don't think we can stand another day at home tommorrow.

DD was off Fri and Mon anyhow. Up here in the city (B-More) everything is solid Ice all the snow banks that were plowed are now just walls of Ice.

If it wasn't cleared before yesterday it's not going to get cleared for a while. I high sided my work van and could hardly get it out even after digging and trying to break up the ice mound.

I was also shocked that they got tomorrow off. I know our sidewalk and porch is a sheet of ice--the poor Fed Ex man just delivered a package and I hope he wore his ice skates! :rotfl:

Yep, the parking lot at work was a giant sheet of ice this morning. Although the sun has been shining all afternoon, hopefully drying some stuff up.

Here's hoping that we all have school tomorrow!! :goodvibes

School is out for us again tomorrow.
Now we will have used up our last "built in" snow day on the school calendar.
If we have another snow day, we'll have to make that up in June.

Same here (Anne Arundel County). Looks like we got an unexpected "winter break!" 3 hours early dismissal on Tuesday the 13th, going back to school Tuesday the 20th!!! I hope it's safe to assume the Valentine's day parties are on Tuesday!

Honestly, I can't say I'm too surprised. You'd be surprised at the number of places that aren't plowed yet. I'm in a residential neighborhood, in the middle of Frederick City, one of the biggest cities in MD, and we STILL aren't plowed.

Cancelled here in central Virginia too. I've heard that many of the roads in more rural areas of our county have lots of ice still. Because a few roads are bad, the entire district closes down. It's a farily large school district. There should be a way to designate certain areas of the county such as "ward A" or "ward B" etc. and only close those areas with the bad road conditions.

Hmmm...maybe I'll bring that up at the next school board meeting!

I wish they'd just go ahead and cancel them in Howard County. The roads aren't going to be any better tomorrow morning than they were this morning. As I understand it, the issue is more the safety of the kids waiting for buses than the buses themselves.

It would be a lot easier logistically just to know tonight.

I live in Fairfax County and was shocked that schools were closed again today. I don't have kids but think it is strange that governments thinks it is safe for Mom and Dad to drive fifty miles to work but not safe for kids to walk two blocks to school.

By the way, my hometown Erie, Pennsylvania cancelled schools this week for the first time in FOUR YEARS! And that was only becase the wind chill was
-11 and blowing snow. They have had over thirty inches this month.
