Daytona 500 WINNER

Darn it, I really wanted Mark Martin to win. Why couldn't they have thrown that yellow flag once "The Big One" started?

dont like Harvick. was rooting for Martin. was really rooting for Stewart till he got caught up in one of the wrecks.

I am SO bummed that Mark didn't take it. I'm consoling myself that he usually ends up somewhere in the 30's at Daytona, so to come out of Daytona 2nd in points is awesome.

Go Mark!!!!

Congratulations to Kevin Harvick and his crew... I was really pulling for Mark Martin though, He is a class act all the way. This may have been his last shot at a Daytona 500 victory.

DH has been a Mark Martin fan forever. I was really routing for Mark.
I'm glad he's not with Viagra sponsor anymore. There was a time I didn't buy Mark Martin merchandise because of that big old Viagra logo.

Martin got screwed. They should have thrown the yellow.

He has already said that he will be back next year w/ Ginn racing. I was so hoping that he would win. He has been my favorite for quite some time. I even have a Viagra t shirt.

When I first started dating DH, who's a HUGE race fan, I said I'd follow the sport for a season before choosing a favorite. That was '95 and Mark's class and sportmanship won a fan for life.

What's funny is that he picked up my son without son realizing how much Mommy and Daddy love him. However, Kevin calls him 'Crazy Old Man' after the nextel commercial with Carl Edwards last year. There was no question what he was doing with his Pinewood Derby car-it was going to be Crazy Old Man's, lol~

Next week should be interesting-Mark's always done well at California, but the 01 has not. Let's see if Mark can bring that team to victory lane!

Yes, between the Cup (we were rooting for MM also) and the Truck race, NASCAR is back!!! WoooHoooo

Boy I was really rootin' for Montoya to make the top 10! Really pulling for Mark Martin as well...but Congratulations Kevin Harvick! :cool1:

Congratulations Kevin Harvick!
I was pacing at the end of the race, couldn't sit still.

The results are still listed as "Unofficial" on Nascar.com. Here's hoping that Ginn racing called out the officials for the lousy call. Doubt it will change anything- but Nascar really needs to be questioned for the "lets change the rules, and make new ones any time we want to" crap.

And no, this is not sour grapes. My brother personally knows Harvick-- in fact my BIL builds their trailors. Even they say it was the wrong call.

I can't help but think that if #20, #48, #24, or #8, would have been in the same place as Martin, the yellow would have been thrown to ensure their victory. But who cares about the old man, who isn't even running a full schedule, and won't bring in the bucks this year.

I thought that you still had to be first at the finish line for a caution.

I feel bad for MM--but he shouldn't have slowed down UNTIL that caution was drawn and it just allowed KH opportunity to easily pass.

I still think it was cool that the one guy finished upside down. I had only seen that on the movie Stroker Ace--so got a chuckle that it happened IRL. (only since he got out of the car and was okay.)

I was very happy they let them race to the finish. I agree with Nascar and the announcers there was no reason to call the caution because there was nothing in front of them. The finish was incredible, I'll take that over a yellow flag ending any day, no matter who's in the lead. :thumbsup2

I do have a question....those lights did not seem to be "race ready" for night racing.

Aren't they MUCH MUCH brighter for Pepsi in July???

You could not see the track. I know with the one wreck they say to just drive on through--but you could barely see that a wreck was taking place at all.

No, once the lucky dog was created. No more racing to the line after caution. The field is frozen when it is thrown

MM didn't slow down. He lost is pusher, when Kyle Bush got out of line, trying to block Harvick, and then spun.

He didn't slow down, he got loose there for a second towards the end but he raced hard. The thing that helped Harvick was he got a big push from Kenseth so he had the momentum, Martin didn't have any help in the end. It's always very difficult to win when your in the lead on that final lap because everyone behind you can team up to pass you since the draft is so key at Daytona.
