After HMH, we headed for Pirates. Wait time - 10 minutes. This was the first time any of us had been on the attraction since the Captain Sparrow addition and we all enjoyed the changes.
By this time, we were all hungry. We hadnt eaten anything since that morning at Sea-Tac so we decided to grab a bite at the Stagedoor Café in Frontierland. Big mistake! The service was so slo-o-ow and the food only mediocre. It took us 40 minutes to get our chicken strips and fries. And the price oh my gosh! In my head, I knew that food was expensive at the parks after all, Im a DISer and I did all the research but when it came time to actually pay for our paltry meal, I just couldnt believe that it cost nearly $50 for the 4 of us! We didnt eat many meals at the parks, but when we did, it was always a shocker!
While we were waiting for our food, I gathered our tickets and headed over to Indy for Fps. The attraction was down and the CMs didnt know when it would be up and running again.
After lunch, we headed for Big Thunder. This is my favorite ride at both DL and Magic Kingdom. We all loved this one. Wait time - 10 minutes. We grabbed a FP for later.
I think we went on the Matterhorn next. (Brandon calls it the Bananahorn) The ride is still as rough as I remembered it being but loads of fun. Wait time - 15 minutes.
On to Tomorrowland! We went on Star Tours first. This was a walk on. I remember when this was a FP attraction but on this trip, I never did see a wait time of over 15 minutes. I hope the rumor is true about an upgrade. It really is outdated. However, there were 2 DL rookies in our group and they loved it.
Buzz was only a 15 minute wait so we hopped aboard. As usual, Grandma came out with the lowest score and the youngsters in our group scored the highest.
The problem with writing a trip report 2 months after the event is that its hard to remember details, but I know that we rode Big Thunder again after dark and then went on Splash Mt. which turned out to be the biggest mistake I made that day.
Space Mountain had a 60 minute wait and all FPs were gone for the day, so we decided to wait for another day for this attraction.
The plan was to ride Splash then head over to the hub to stake out a place for the fireworks. Seeing the Remember fireworks was my #1 goal for this vacation as I had never seen them before.
Well I got soaked on Splash, and I do mean soaked. I made it through the drop without so much as a bead on me, but when we rounded the corner at the bottom, a wall of water came over the side of the log and drenched the entire left side of me. At first, it didnt bother me. Although the night air was a bit chilly, I wasnt really cold, but that would change later on.
We found a perfect location in the center of the hub to watch the firworks. This was about an hour and ½ before the show. We were on the backside of the centerpiece of the hub and even had a place to sit while we waited.
I was starting to get a bit chilled as time went by, and I was really wishing I had brought my sweater and hadnt worn jeans because they were not drying out at all. The longer I sat there, the colder I got. I was so cold now that my teeth began to chatter. I couldnt believe it .here I was in sunny California, and my teeth were chattering. About 30 minutes before the firworks, I had to give it up and go back to the hotel.
Now I know some of you may be asking yourself why I didnt go back to the hotel and change since it was right across the street. My reasoning I still had all those warnings in my head about DL closing the park because of the crowds, and the closer we got to the time of the fireworks, the more crowded the park felt especially at the hub. So basically, I was afraid to leave.
Back at the hotel and in my warm Pjs, I was close to tears as I heard the 1st big boom of the Remember fireworks across the street. Oh well, tomorrows another day, I sighed, then drifted off into an exhausted sleep.
