Woke up early today to head to Chef Mickeys – our PS was at 7:30a.m. and we had to take a cab to the Contemporary since the buses were not running yet. The cab ride from AKL was $16 and I prayed for my life the entire drive. The driver evidently thought it would be fun to go 75 mph this morning. Now I drive fast….but I pretty sure the speed limit was no where near 75 mph.

We had our picture taken at the big plate and were seated right away. Now I don’t know if we were just in a bad section of the resturant or what but we hardly saw in characters the 45 minutes we were there. And the ones that did stop by barely stopped to take pictures with both of us. Now I know I don’t have any little ones but I am still paying an awful lot of money for this meal. We did see Mickey (who only stopped long enough to take a picture with DH), Pluto, and Minnie. Other characters were Chip n Dale, Pluto, and Goofy. We just sort of felt jipped. The characters didn’t seem very enthusiastic about anything to be honest, just going through the motions. Food was great! And our waitress brought out Mickey Cup Cakes for us for our “special day” I had no idea what she was talking about but assumed Disney Magic and thanked her a whole bunch. Overall we were disappointed in Chef Mickey’s and won’t be heading back.

On to the Magic Kingdom – we grabbed a Monorail and was able to sit up front with the driver – COOL!!! Nothing like gliding around the Seven Seas Lagoon in the front of the Monorail! We arrived at MK just as it was opening and busted our butts down to Fantasy land. Now on our first trip (everyone hold their breaths) we did not ride a single ride in Fantasy Land…(ducking to avoid the fruit being thrown) so that was our mission today. I started with Winnie the Pooh – cute ride, not my favorite, and the child behind me screamed at the Elephants and Weasels – poor kid. Next up was Peter Pan – Ohhhh I loved this ride! It was so much fun to go flying over London and Neverland! This is a great ride! We were going to ride Snow White’s Scary Adventure but it was closed for a “late opening” – Thanks Uncle Mike! grumble grumble grumble We decided to get in line for Phillarmagic and we loved that show! I smiled like a goofy 6 year old through the entire show. It was just great. My favorite part was with Aladin and Jasmine. Just wonderful! By now it is 10a.m. (yep did all that in an hour) and we headed to the Haunted Mansion – again a first for us since it was under rehab on our first trip. The dog is howling nicely now. That ride is awesome and fun…..for the moment. After this we headed to Big Thunder Mountain which we enjoyed (we’ve done this ride before) and onto Splash Mountain, where I met Main St. Jim! Don’t tell my husband but Main St. Jim is handsome. J Splash was closed till noon for some refurbishment. After this I believe we were headed to Adventure Land where suddenly there were crowds – and I mean lots of them. We backtracked to Fantasy land – even worse. I told DH we have to ride Pirates so we went around the castle to Adventureland again to discover a 45 mintues wait for POC!!! It is just around 11a.m. and DH and I decided to split. We fought our way like Trout swimming up street on Main St. to wait for our bus. Where did all those people come from?

We hit the Animal Kingdom Lodge and went down to Mara to get lunch. I got the Chicken Tuscan Pizza, DH got a cheeseburger and fries. Both were really good. We took the food up to our room and had a mattress picnic. After that we both decided it was time for a nap. We slept from 1p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Guess we were extra extra tired.

Our plan tonight was to head to MGM around 5pm and see Fantasmic but since we woke up late and we were both feeling like avoiding the crowds we decided to put on swimsuits and hit the pool and hot tub for a couple of hours. We emerged relaxed and cold (still only 50 degrees out). We got dressed and headed back down to Mara for dinner. I ordered the African Stew in a bread bowl that was just out of this world! I ate every last bite. DH had a chicken sandwich that he said was dry.

We decided to hit the showers and go to Downtown Disney for the evening. We did lots of shopping. The Christmas Store got lots of money out of us this trip. I got two of the big Mickey ornaments personalized for DH and myself. And got a few Christmas items for people as well. We walked through the Ghiradelli’s store but the line was really long for ice cream. We walked over to Pleasure Island and did the Comedy Club – it was a riot and we had a great time! We will definitely be doing that again. Headed back to the market place where we went into Ghiradelli’s again and I got a hot fudge sundae and DH got a Strawberry one. We sat on a bench enjoying our ice cream and talking about what we were wanting to accomplish in the next months and years. It is great to reconnect and see we are both heading down the same path. Wonderful to know that after a year of marriage and 9 years of being together we are still very much in love and that we can still need and depend on the other one. It is amazing how when the stresses of life like work, money, and family are in the back of your mind it is easier to see what is really there between you. We got back to the lodge about 11:30 where we went straight to bed.

septbride2002:

I totally understand your pleasure at having time to "reconnect" with your DH......we plan at least one adult meal/evening out while we are on vacation so we can actually talk to one another without distraction/interrruption (our kids are great but it is nice to be "just us two" on occasion).

Looking forward to the rest of your trip report :D
