My first attempt at writing a trip report.....be patient with me.
Who: Diane (me) somewhere between 30 and 40
Mom if I wrote her age down, I wouldn't see tomorrow!
Dad 66 (gives you a clue on mom's age)
Where: Animal Kingdom Lodge
When: November 28 - December 8
Why: It's Christmas time!
Today's Plan: MGM for more RnRC and BATB. EPCOT for the remainder of the day.
Actual: After riding Big Thunder Mountain as often as I did yesterday, I woke up with a sore back and decided to give my back a break and skip this mornings plan of Rock -n- Roller Coaster. (I'll be at California Adventure next weekend and will make ride California Screamin' a few times to make up for it!) With me not going to ride the Rollercoaster, my dad decides he doesn't need to go back and get a better picture of the Beast - so off to EPCOT we go.
After we arrive and go through what Disney calls security, we grab the time guide and plan the morning. It is about 9:30am and my dad decides that he wants to do The Living Seas and he thought "that Figment guy" sounded interesting. My mom wanted to do The Land , so we decide to do Living with the Land first before the line builds. I remember why I haven't done this attraction in 6 years.....I'm bored! Maybe it is me, I am not interested in this attraction.
We head off to The Living Seas , another attraction I don't have a need for. My parents wanted to see the Manatee exhibit, so I grab a seat and just tell them to find me when they are done. Again, maybe it is me....I have no interest in fish or marine life...so another attraction I am not interested in. Well, the manatee were sleeping, so off we went to see Figment!
I was looking forward to Figment, since I hadn't seen the new version. We get there and the CM tells us that Figment is CLOSED until Monday! What!!!??? Figment Closed?
Grrrrrrr. Frustration was building - thankfully I learn that it had been closed all week, so I didn't make a mistake by not seeing Thursday. My mom loves Honey, I Shrunk the Audience (I can take or leave it ). Today I'm in the mood to leave it, so I send my parents in on their own - using the excuse .... It says if you are afraid of snakes not to see it! I'm extremely afraid of snakes (although I could have made it through the show), so I use this as my excuse to catch a 30 minute break!.
I spend my break time watching the water jump outside the theatre - and enjoying the sunshine.
Once the show is over it is 11:20am and we start to head to World Showcase to finish our trek around the world. I know Characters on Holiday is in the entryway now, so I want to head over and get Goofy's picture. My dad has been taking most of the pictures this week and this is the first day I have brought my camera to the park. Well, mom is making one of her many visits to the EPCOT restrooms, so I head over to get my photo's. I get a great one of Goofy and then confirm that he will be at Disneyland next weekend (I'm amazed that he takes vacation the same time I do each year! . I also get pictures of King Louie (for dad), Pluto and Dopey. I have pictures from previous visits, so I don't feel the need to take that many any more.
After waving bye to Goofy, I find my parents and we head over to Mexico. We did the boat ride (Is today the day I do all the boring attractions? ) and then did some window shopping. My parents are going to be in Mexico in a few weeks so they didn't buy anything. Outside my mom wanted to watch the Holiday Story Teller, so as they watched the presentation, I went to find the stand that I like most in Mexico......You Got It.....The Margarita Stand! I checked my watch to ensure it was after 12:00 noon (it was 12:01pm) and went and ordered me a Margarita! Maybe it was the week walking tenderly around my mother...however, she sees the margarita and says "Oh...it's a little early for a drink isn't it?". Ok....I'm over 21 (by a lot!), so I think I can get a drink when ever I want. If say..."You are right, it is too early for one drink....I better go order another!". Now...the thing is - I can't drink more than 1 without feeling like crap - so I only have the one. It just makes it tense for a few hours.
We head over to Norway where my parents order Sweet Pretzels (I'm still drinking) and then we ride Maelstorm (yawn.....) and watch the film (big yawn).
Next on the route is China and the movie (I like this one) and I find out that I was born in the year of the Rabbit. I try to figure out what day is my chinese birthday and none of the CM could figure it out with me - I know I was born in the year of the Rabbit, just not what my day of birth means. Oh well.
It is about 2:00pm by now and we head over for our Priority Seating in the Biergarten...(yeah...Bier!) We are seated with a CM and his mother. The CM works at AKL! (we are staying there) and my mom just chats away and away while my dad enjoy our lunch. My dad and I are both introverts and my mom is an extrovert, he just lets her go and as long as no personal information about me is given out - I'm learning to let her go.
After lunch we take the boat back to the front of the park to see Cast in Bronze . This group is fabulous...I just love watching the one guy play the Carolon (sp?). After the show my parents went to see the Acrobats in China and I went the other way, we decided to meet up in Italy at 5:30pm. I head over to United Kingdom for another production by The World Showcase Players and A Christmas Carol . Both of the females were not the regulars I'm used to, so the show for me was only so-so. I head over to Italy to meet the folks and watch The Living Statue perform. It got started a bit slow, but again, another great statue and performance. It was about 6:00pm and my dad and I wanted to stay for Illuminations! - we just didn't know how to fill the time. Mom wanted to see Candlelight Processional again, so we got in the standby line and saw the 6:45pm show. Another fabulous performance and a great way to spend my last night on vacation.
Mom headed back to the resort after the show and dad and I found a spot near Norway for Illuminations! Reflections of Earth and ended the night with a fabulous performance.
As I left EPCOT for the last time this trip, I didn't have the sad feeling I usually have. Maybe it is because I'm in Disneyland often now (I commute from Colorado to So Cal 3 weeks a month), so I never feel like I'm away from Disney. It could also be because I bought an annual pass so I know I will be back.
Got back to the resort and fell asleep.
Tomorrow: Packing and travel home
