When we arrive at MCO the day before our cruise, I would like to go to DTD for a few hours before settling down for the evening at the Hyatt-MCO. I'm a year out, but I am a planner to a fault! I want to
budget everything now so I am well prepared. (One income!) I never rent cars so this is unknown territory for me.
What would a day only car rental cost? Is there another way to do this like a shuttle or something. If it costs less for me to drive, I will gladly grab a small vehicle for a few hours. Which company would you suggest using? Thanks!
Try plugging your dates and times at various rental companies' websites. There are lots of discount codes you can find on mousesavers.com. Also if you belong to Costco or BJs their websites offer discounts too. It takes time but if you take the 1st price you see, you may be paying too much. It's worth it to shop around. Good that you have lots of time. You can book the best deal now and occasionally recheck for better prices which often happen. I've had my rental car price drop to half of what I originally booked for.
We like
Alamo because:
1. their prices are usually best
2. they have a kiosk you can use so you can skip the line at the counter.
3. you get to choose your own vehicle out of those available in your category. We like that we can look for one that has a sunroof, no cigarette odor, etc.
4. if not using any coupons, you can skip the kiosk too by doing online check in. Then you just go straight to the garage, choose a car, and at the exit gate show DL, cc, the hangtag from the rearview mirror. It's so easy.
jmho but since you're staying right at Hyatt and rental car garage is an easy walk across the street, esp w/o luggage, this would be a
way easier/faster option than taking a public bus. This would also allow you to stop at a grocery store if you want to bring liquids on the cruise.
DCL allows guests to bring their own alcohol in the ship. We're not big drinkers but we like to stop for a 6-12 pk of bottled water to keep in our stateroom and to bring along in various ports.
We did just what you're proposing for our TG08 cruise. I believe it was around $65 for a minivan for a few hours. We went to see the Ice show at Gaylord Palms hotel. We could have gotten a reg car much cheaper but my parents were with us and needed seating for 6.
Have fun!!
