Once we were back in Munich, Eliana and I went to tour the Residenz Museum which is just down the block from our hotel. This was the palace of the Wittelsbach kings until 1918. We were able to take pictures here so I took plenty.

There were so many rooms on display that we only got to really see a small amount of them before we had to be back at the hotel. Would have loved to have more time to spend here.
We met back at the hotel for our farewell dinner. We had said our goodbyes to Rudy and our usual bus after we had returned from Neuschwanstein so we boarded a new bus with a new driver to head to dinner. The new restaurant is located amidst a somewhat residential area. This meant that the bus had a very difficult time navigating the streets including a tense few minutes when we expected to hear the sound of breaking glass and metal being crushed. Yikes! :scared1: We made it there all in one piece and were greeted with the oompah oompah band performing in the front of the restaurant for us. We moved inside for dinner to a private room and the band played more traditional German songs and did some dancing.

Our guides presented DD with a card and a Mickey Happy Birthday pin as her birthday was coming up in just 2 more days. Then they sang Happy Birthday with the band in English and German.
We had a lot of fun and were sad to say goodbye.
One last picture with our wonderful ABD guides - Kim on the left, Nadine on the right.

We stayed one additional night and did a day trip to Salzburg, Austria the next day. I will post some pics for that trip as well.

Thanks so much for the detailed trip report. You are a great photographer! My husband and I are doing this trip in September and you've given us some ideas of what to do in our free time.

Thanks for the compliments about the photos. I don't think of myself as a good photographer, rather I take many photos with the hopes that a few will turn out well. I lucked out as DD is pretty photogenic and, being the first and only granddaughter, has been in front of the camera since she was born. :goodvibes

I want to give a shout out again to DISer sayhello for the tips on posting trip reports. This is my first trip report so I'm glad others are enjoying it. I apologize if I have included some spoilers. I typed directly from my journal that I kept during the trip and sometimes forgot what was known and what was a surprise.

I have enjoyed your trip report so much!!! It really brought the trip to life for me. I'm definitely going to put the Residenz museum on my list for Munich! It doesn't seem like there was much time on your own on the trip.

Did you find the best souvenier shopping to be Rothenberg? Or somewhere else? Did you see anywhere that sells the traditional dirndl dresses? My daughter wants me to bring one back for her.

Now must click to your post day in Salzburg!

There is really only the evening in Munich and then the few hours after Neushwanstein in Munich so not much free time. If I had it to do over, and more time to spend, I would spend a post day in Munich and then head to Salzburg and stay at least one night there.

We did have quite a few hours in Rothenburg for shopping and with the huge Christmas store right next to the hotel it was very easy to find souvenirs. They did have traditional dirndl dresses in Rothenburg and the guides even suggested which store was the best so definitely ask them.

Hope that helps.

Aw, thanks. :) I'm loving your report. And you are a good photographer. If you knew how many pictures I went through to get the good ones... To my knowledge, that's exactly how good photographers get those great shots! :thumbsup2

Picture #2 of Neuschwanstein is nothing short of spectacular, and makes me very jealous! ;)

Sayhello
