We just joined the DVC last week and I just spent the last hour trying to figure out how to post (poster child for computer illiteracy).

What do someone mean when they mention calling in a reservation request day by day?

It means they call everyday to make a reservation, for each day of a multiple day vacation, rather than calling only once to make the reservation for the whole thing.

For example, I am going Dec. 3-8 2006. Instead of calling on January 9th to reserve all my days at once, I called everyday starting on January 4th.

On the first day, I told the CM at member services what my final check-out day was, and then they hold off on sending out the confirmation to you in the mail, until you are done calling in.

I was told that during busy times of the year, that it is best to do this, if you want to make sure you get your first choice without going on a waitlist.

For busier timer of year, like December through New Year, many folks call every day for their reservations, especially at BWV, BCV and VWL. For instance, if you wanted a ressie for Dec 4th to 7th, you'd call Jan 5th to book Dec 4th, Jan 6th for Dec. 5th and so on, informing Member Services so they don't print a confirmation until your reservation is complete. This is especially needed for standard view rooms at BWV. I've never had to do this for OKW, I assume because it is a larger resort.

I am a new member and have some additional questions about reserving day by day at the 7 month mark. I currently have reservations at my home resort SSR. We would like to stay at the Beach Club. Since I already have my current reservation when I call day by day at the 7 month mark do they cancel each day at SSR if I get into BCV? I would hate to give up the "safety" of having a week together to chance dialy availability at the BCV. My point being if I called day by day and only got days 2,4,and 6 at the Beach Club and have to keep the SSR reservation on days 1,3, and 5 will they hold my SSR reservation all together until my checkout date at SSR or would I have to split my stay every other day between the 2 resorts (which I wouldn't want to do) and pray the rest to come through on the wait list? If I want to try to get all my nights together should I wait until the check out date to call and risk there being a smaller chance to get in? Also since the Beach Club would be more points and I had to go on the waitlist would they automatically borrow the points from next year? I hope this makes sense, and thank you in advance for your responses.

If you have enough points, you could book the BCV day by day, and not cancel your SSR reservation. Then if everything worked out, cancel SSR. If you don't have enough points, then you really should waitlist. If you got 3 days at BCV and cancelled those equivalent days at SSR, you might wind up with a day at SSR, then a day at BCV, then a day at SSR, etc. Meaning you would be checking-in and checking out almost every day.

If you waitlist for BCV and it's more points than you currently have, you can instruct MS to automatically borrow the points should the waitlist come through.

Remember, there are a couple of different ways to use the waitlist. You can have them automatically do everything if everything comes through, or you can have them call you and verify if you still want the waitlist. When they call, I think you get 24 hours to call back.

You can also have the waitlist active up until 30 days before check-in, or active up to 7-days before checkin. If you already have a reservation at SSR as a backup, you might as well use the 7-day system.

We had a reservation at OKW with a waitlist for BWV once, and for months, nothing. Then at about 10 days before check-in, the waitlist came through.

There are members who have reservations with every intention of going, but something happens at the last minute and they have to cancel. That's how members wind up with points in the Holding Account, but it's also how waitlists can come through at the last minute.
