Special Appearance by: Creepy thin man

As we walk up to the Haunted Mansion I am sitting there thinking how much I love the outside of it. It just feels so creepy. I love looking at Madame Leota’s gravestone – spooky!

We are welcomed into the stretching room by a cast member very much in character his name I believe was Altrudo or something close to it. He is a little taller then me, dark hair, dark eyes, and reminds me a bit of Creepy Thin Man from the movie “Charlie’s Angels” We go into the stretching room and we head to the back but don’t stand against the walls. The butler announces that we are to move our bodies away from his walls. Hehehe. Now next to me is a woman who I’m afraid to say did not have a good grasp on reality. She kept telling me how some of the ghost in the mansion are real and that the CM’s freaked her out. I’m kinda nodding but watching the paintings on the wall. Our of the corner of my eye I see something and when I turn my head Creepy Thin Man (aka CTM) is about 2 inches from my face just staring at me. I jumped a bit and smiled at him but he just kept staring. I wasn’t listening to the spiel anymore but he snapped his fingers at me just as the lights went out. Now I have to admit I was a bit hesitant to look when the lights came on but the CTM was gone and doors opened. We start to head out but again the woman stops me to tell me that CTM scared her and before I know it he is behind her and when she turns around she gets the start of her life. I kinda chuckle and start moving towards the Doombuggies. DH is to the right of me and I turn to tell him that CTM really creeped me out in the room and kinda scared me – he then points and guess who is to the left of me staring at me again about 2 inches from me. Yep Creepy Thin Man! I let out this scream that just echoed down the hall. It sounded something like “AAAHHHHH! SSSTOOOPPP ITTT!” And as the word “it” is coming out of my mouth I proceed to shove the CTM against the wall! Now this was totally done without me thinking so please don’t flame me for assaulting a Cast Member. He literally scared me out of my wits and I reacted. Only when he hit the wall did the CTM start to break character and actually smile. And then he sulked off – people in line were cracking up and I started to laugh as well. When we get in our doombuggie I turn to dh and said – I hit him. I didn’t mean to and I am feeling bad about it. DH is just laughing at me saying that the guy didn’t realize what he was getting into. (One night I actually decked my brother for scaring me). During the whole ride I kept looking over my shoulder thinking CTM would be there. As we left the ride I looked for him but didn’t see him. I’m telling you the whole time walking To Splash Mountain I kept looking over my shoulder – that guy really creeped me out.

We found our laughing place at Splash Mountain and decided it was time to head to Ohana’s We have a 6:30 PS time. We Monorail over to the Polynesian me saying the whole time “CTM really creeped me out.” We get to Ohana’s and it is looking pretty busy. Fireworks were at 7pm. At the hostess stand I asked if it was possible to sit near a window with my nicest smile and attitude. She told me she could try to get us within 5 ft of the window or we could wait an hour. I told her 5 ft would be fine. The other hostess says she will show us our table about 5 minutes later and she says, “Happy Anniversary!” DH and I smile and say thanks but are thinking – huh? We get the most perfect table in the restaurant. It was beautiful, right by the window, and was just perfect. DH asks about the Anniversary remark and I told him the only thing I could think of is while making the PS the Cast Member asked me if we were celebrating anything on our trip – and I said no not really, we wanted to come back for our anniversary in September but had to push it back to February. I’m guessing she marked us down as having an anniversary because we got the same thing at CA grill and I made the PS arrangements at the same time.

The food at Ohana’s was wonderful as usual. We had Lapu Lapu’s to drink (yummy) and loaded up on the shrimp and vegetable wontons. The sauces to dip the meats in are really great and we really enjoyed the meal and pineapple. Wishes was again seen and I just love this show. I could have watched it every night of our trip.

We took the Monorail to Epcot at about 8:30 and caught a bus back to AKL from there. Got back to the resort at 9pm – got some sodas and watched animals and then went to bed…of course I checked behind the curtain for Creepy Thin Man.

If anyone knows Altrudo please apologize for me. I did not mean to assault him! :o

I can completely relate to your experience at the HM. DH and I attended MNSSHP on 10/30/03 and one of the things I was really looking forward to was visiting the HM.
Earlier in our trip, a older female CM was having fun walking up behind people in the stretching room and giving them a light poke. I thought this was rather amusing, as I wasn't being poked and it was daylight outside.
Fastforward to MNSSHP. DH and I head over to HM and it looks amazing. It was green, the spooky music was playing, and there was a fog filling the entrance area. A young male CM opened the door and let us inside. Since it was MNSSHP, all the HM CMs had their faces painted to look as if they were dead. DH and I walked in to the stretching room and moved close to the picture of the woman with the parasol, knowing we'd be out quickly. The CM who let us in was circling the people in the stretching room. The lights went out, the scream came, and I turned around to leave the room. Who was right in my face as I turned around? The CM. I screamed so loudly and everyone in the room laughed. My heart was pounding and continued to do so for about 30 minutes.
I get startled very easily by people, and it usually takes me a while to relax. DH felt terrible because he thought I knew the CM was right behind me. I didn't. The CM was very fortunate I didn't react and hit him or something like that. They should be a little more careful when testing guests.
I also spent the rest of the night looking over my shoulder.

Glad Altrudo had a sense of humor!

I was sure you were going to say you ran into him at O'Hana's!

Amanda, those HM CMs are creepy!! I definitely would have screamed. Don't know that I would have actually TOUCHED the guy but you can't help your reflexes, right? It's not like you were PLANNING to assault the guy. I figure if he's going to try to scare people, he should be prepared for the consequences!

One time when we did HM (not this past trip - a few years ago) DH & I were getting on the ride together and I got in the Doom Buggy last. At the very end of the loading conveyor, after we were settled in, a CM stuck his head INTO our Doom Buggy - scared me witless, as I was NOT expecting it at all. He was there and then he wasn't, it was all over in an instant but I was freaked out and kept looking for him to re-appear at any moment.

Now I'm looking over my shoulder and nervous every time I go near HM!!

On a happier note, what was in those Lapu Lapus?? I saw them in your pics and they LOOKED amazing, but what did they taste like?? If I had been freaked out by the CTM, I'm sure I would have had several alcoholic drinks! :p

That was great!! I started LOL when I read you hit him! I freak out when I get scared, so I probably would have done the same thing. Thanks for the laugh!
