Your Cast of Characters:

Me, 44 year old mother & grandmother: Planner & financier of this trip who ate PB&J & bologna sandwiches and did rewards programs for ten months saving for the trip.

DD, Jess, 28: Poster child for premenstral syndrome and offical spoiler of trip. Seriously, she gets pms BAD & won't take medicine.

DGD, Skye, 7 turning 8 11/15: The most well behaved, sweetest granddaughter any grandmother could ask for. Loves rollercoasters.

Monday October 28th:

The girls are going to Discovery Cove today while I stay behind and do some laundry. We got up early and went to Mara for breakfast. After thier Discovery Cove day, Jim was bringing the girls to meet me at Rainforest Cafe DTD instead of back at the AKL. At breakfast Jess tells me that she was planning on staying at DTD and going to The House of Blues for that "women drink free from _ til_" thing the hairwrap CM told her about. I didn't dare say anything, but I was worried because, well, that's what mothers do. Plus, it seems that if anything bad happens at Disney, it's usually downtown. But, if I told her I didn't want her to go there would've been another fight so I kept my mouth shut.

I had booked Yourride for a towncar transport to Discovery Cove. We ate and went outside to wait for thier ride. Well, up pulls Jim again in the limo! A limo for the price of a towncar! Thanks, Rabbitz!

After I saw the girls off, I took some more money from the safe and put it on the room charge. I know, I'm glutton for punishment. But, I didn't have bad charging karma for the rest of the trip!:)

Afterwards, I took our laundry down to the 2nd floor and did a load of whites and a load of colors. I shared some pixie dust in the laundry room with some people by letting them use my detergent and dryer sheets so they wouldn't have to buy any. There was a little porch with rocking chairs on the second floor by the laundry so I sat there and watched the animals while the laundry was going. For some reason, I had it in my head that the laundry was near the pool, but it wasn't. No biggie. I don't know if it was against the rules, (didn't see a sign) but I used the laundry's rolling basket thingy to get the clean clothes back up to the room, then took the basket back to the laundry.

Once back in the room I had planned on taking a nap, but got to watching the animals in the savanna with the binocculars I brought instead. The little gazzels? were so cute to watch as they chased each other around the trees....they'd leap & kick thier heels up so high I thought they might flip over. Cute.

(I know I'm boring you!LOL)

It wasn't long before it was time to shower and get ready to go downtown to meet the girls. I was anxious to hear how thier day went. I hopped a bus then sat outside RFC watching the parrotts carry on. They were pretty funny...one was meaner than a junk yard dog. It wasn't long before the girls came. All smiles.

Needless to say they loved it. It ended up being the highlight of thier trip. I'd given Jess $100 for pictures and the video and she ended up spending some of her own money for Tshirts and Skye a big stuffed dolphin that she named Tyler after the dolphin they swam with. Over dinner they showed me the pictures and told me all about it. They were a little dissapointed in the aviary because they thought there were going to be more birds, but it was still very cool. Jess was laughing about Skye getting scarred of the barracudas even though they were behind glass. She said they were swimming underwater side by side until they saw the barracudas...before Jess knew it Skye was up top and kicking as fast as she could in the other direction. Jess said it was kinda scary. Skye said an eel was starring at her.LOL

Dinner was pretty good. We got some fried cheese free with our Orlando Magic card. I ordered the king crablegs and Jess ordered steak, Skye got a hot dog & mac/cheese. The meats were all good but the sides were nasty. The whole thing ended up costing me $8 since I had $75 in RFC giftcertificate from doing rewards programs.

Jess said she was too tired to stay downtown and do The House of Blues. I was glad. We looked around downtown and got a few pins at the pin store. I forgot to mention before that Skye has become a big time pin trader/collector this trip.

We left and was back at the lodge by 8 o'clock. We all went to bed early. Skye slept with Tyler the stuffed dolphin.

Thanks for the great reports. You are too young to be a nana. I am your age with 2 DDS ages 9 and 12. Anyway, I am still thinking of DC. My 12 year old really wants to do it. So your family thought it was worth the money? We are big beach and pool people so I think we would love it. I hate to loose a day of WDW and Universal, but it sounds like they enjoyed it... thanks...amy

YEAH!!!!! :Pinkbounc:

Now this trip is starting to come together!!! Thank goodness DC wore Jess out so she was too tired for partying. I can't wait for the rest! :D

Jennymouse, if you don't mind my asking, which reward programs do you participate in? It seems that you have done quite well with them :D . Glad to hear there were no more charging problems!

It sounds like you had a great vacation (after a few bumps). Thanks for posting!

I did a bunch of them...and for three people, my DD & DGD, which is against the rules with some but I didn't know it until after I'd been doing them forever....some had to know but never cancelled me or anything. I did Mypoints, Blink, Milesource, Searchcactus, Creations Rewards, Netflip, Memolink, Pinecone Research, Click to the Magic...that's all I can think of right now but I did alot. Kept me quite busy, but it was fun getting the free stuff. I ended up with about $1000 worth of stuff. Some pay cash and I bought Disney Dollars with that...some give Disney Dollars, some pay in Webcertificates which is a prepaid MasterCard. I had $30 in Applebee's GC's, $75 in RFC, $25 Planet Hollywood. It just takes a long time and you have to be patient. Is it worth the time, not really. Like my mother said "You could get a part time job and make more for the time you spend." It's true, but I didn't want a parttime job, ya know. I could do rewards programs while DISing, watching TV and I did it when I wanted to.

Definately turning into a nice trip!

Thanks for sharing!

Looking forward to day 5!

Hello

i have really enjoyed reading your trip reports- they are very candid and funny :p

I too clash with my daughter who is 15- i am learning day by day how to grit my teeth and ignore some of her comments- but the truth be known.. i am no angel to get along with either

look forward to hearing more- we are staying at the AKL for 3 days with savannah view- AKL sounds marvellous!!

Well, I'm the same way, but I gritted my teeth and bore it until Day 5 when I started really coming back at her. Being nice wasn't working. She can be sooo sweet when she wants to be though. But, during "her time of the month" & right before is like she's possessed or something.

She's been as sweet as she can be since we've been home, but we came home to horrible news....I'll tell that in my last day report.:(

I am so glad things are improving. I was beginning to worry. But I love the reports.

Jenifer, I love the honesty in your reports and appreciate your candid posting. I've read so many "happy family" trip reports I was worried. Seems there's always at least one day with at least one family member that's a klinker on our trips. Now I don't feel alone. But all in all, my feeling thus far is how more of the trip was wonderful than not for you and your girls.

Thanks for replying so quickly with the info on the rewards programs. I did start a couple of them but stopped doing it after a couple of weeks because it just seemed like it took too much time. The only one I am still doing is Rewardtv because it is actually fun :D .

What happen to the whole truth? ;)
Are you trying lower me in false sense of security? ;)

The Legend leaves sensing this is the calm before the Storm.

I'm glad things are going better for dear old mom!!!!!
