Day Four (9-21)
Alarm clock went off at 7am, followed by Mickey Mouse and Stitch telling us to move it! Sound familiar? I know, I know .but it really happened, I swear! With the threat of rain this morning, I made sure to pack the wal-mart ponchos again. Today DD decided that we would wear our matching Incredibles shirts (thanks Midnite!). They have the little I logo on the front upper right hand corner and on the back they say Just another Incredible Father/Daughter Trip to the world & have a picture of Mr. Incredible and his daughter Violet on them. The shirts were actually really comfortable and it was kind of fun to have matching shirts on. We managed to make it to the bus stop around 8:30 where we were faced with a short line of people and actually had to wait about 3 min for the bus to arrive. Geesh .getting busy around here.
We made it to the MK shortly after the park opening and after taking our obligatory shots in front of the railroad station outside of the park, made our way in and caught our first glimpse of the beautifully decorated castle. It looks awesome in the gold trim & better than Ive ever seen it look before. The construction around the railroad station definitely takes away from the grand entrance, but I understand the need to refurbish during non-peak times.
We made our way to the Main Street Barbershop where a barbershop quartet was performing inside (how appropriate!). DD wanted some pixie dust in her hair, so we waited and watched two youngsters get their 1st haircuts. The barbers did a great job keeping the kids entertained and even gave them Mickey ears that had 1st haircut stitched into the back of them. The skies opened up while we waited and we saw lots of ponchos and umbrellas walking by. DDs turn finally came up and she sat patiently in the chair while the barber loaded her hair with hairspray and pixie dust. We opted for no colored gel since he recommended not getting wet or the color would run. When I went to pay up, he indicated that pixie dust was free! I thought there was a $5 charge for it but I was wrong. So I gave him a small tip and we were ready for our day!
The rain had slowed down to a wont-get-your-shirt-wet sporadic drizzle, so we walked up Main Street USA on our way to Space Mountain. The sign said 10 minutes which must be the minimum because we walked right on after going through the empty queue line. This was DDs first ride and she was a tad concerned that I would not be sitting beside her. We ended up in seats 1 & 2, so she sat in front and I reached up and had my hand on her shoulder. The ride was great and DD really loved it! I heard her laughing through most of the ride. Of course, we had to immediately ride it again and we had the same no wait & great ride.
After conquering the mountain, we headed over to Buzz Lightyears Space Ranger Spin. Once again, there was no one in the queue line. I had read a few reports that said something about a high scoring target at the end of the first room underneath the robots arm, so I looked for it and found it. I repeatedly hit it and by the time I was out of the second room, I had maxed my score out at 999,999!! Zurg is no match for this Incredible dad! We ended up riding it twice in a row and had lots of fun both times. The second time, the ride stopped in the second room where we got to shoot away for at least a minute.
Paging Mr. Tom Morrow .Mr. Tom Morrow would you please give your party on Saturn a ring?
Yep, Tomorrowland Transit Authority was up next. We both love this neat ride around Tomorrowland and now its not the only way for DD to get inside of Space Mountain!
We decided to tackle the other two mountains next. On our way, we caught the end of Cinderellabration. We stood beside the horse & carriage that had also stopped due to the people in the turnaround. I asked DD if she wanted to take a ride down Main St. (she LOVES horses!) and she was pretty excited to be able to do this. The show ended and my little princess and I were magically transported back to the front of the park on a great carriage ride.
We cut through Adventure land on our way to the mountains and met up with Aladdin who was hanging out by himself near the Aladdin Magic Carpets ride. He took time with DD to look through her autograph book, admiring the special pages that we had made for many characters.
Upon reaching the bridge in front of Splash Mountain, we were met with a most unusual sight .the drop into the briar patch was dry! The whole ride was without water. We were pretty disappointed as this is one of our favorite rides there is so much more to it than that one drop. It looked like we would have to settle for conquering two mountains on this day, so we made our way to the empty Thunder Mountain entrance and had a nice ride on the runaway railroad. DD asked why did they slow it down? to which I responded They didnt. You are riding bigger and faster coasters now, so some of the ones youve been on before are gonna seem slower and tamer While it was great to achieve the 48 limit, it was a little sad to see some of the magic disappear from some of the easier rides.
We stopped at the old showplace where Woody and Jessie now call home and got their autographs and photos. On our way out of there and to the Haunted Mansion, a CM yelled out Hey, Incredibles! So we walked over to her cart and showed her our shirts which she loved! She asked DD what her special power was, to which my little Violet said shields! It was pretty cool to be recognized like that. She reminded us that the Incredibles were signing autographs over by the Buzz ride & we let her know that we planned on meeting them.
DD was now ready for her first ride in the Haunted Mansion. She does not like ghosts and can get creeped out pretty easily, but wanted to do it. I told her that it is Disney and its not really scary, but actually kind of cool inside. I reminded her that she could close her eyes at any time & that wed get the opportunity to beat up a silly ghost at the end of the ride. I prepped her for the stretching room as well, since that can be a little intimidating. She made it through the stretching room just fine & I actually had never noticed the hanging man when you look up which I thought was cool (was only on it once before). She did great throughout the ride until the heads that pop up at you and scream. Had to cover the eyes for that part. She loved the hitchhiking ghost at the end and gave it a few smacks and bonks on the head that seemed to really make everything alright. It wasnt a lets do it again experience but she did say that she might ride it again later.
DD then said I want to ride Small World for mom. If mom was here, shed want to go on it so lets do it. How could I say no to that? I did like the new theming area with the white and gold clock castle thing and actually didnt find the ride as annoying as I did in the past. Im sure mom would have loved it & wed be sure to tell her about it when we returned. We did notice that for some magical reason, it completely stopped raining and the sun came out when we exited. Our good deed had been rewarded.
Lunch was at the Columbia Harbor House (see dining review) and it was on to Pirates of the Caribbean next. Before Pirates, we got Peter Pan and Wendys autographs since they were standing across the road from the entrance. We did Pirates and the Jungle Cruise while in Adventureland. While I understand the significance of both rides, they just seem underwhelming to me. I have to admit that I love the dry sense of humor that the Jungle Cruise captains have! You think its water running out of their trunks, but its not here Id like to point out a few of my favorite plants ..theres one ..theres another one...
I think DD was a little bored after Pirates and Jungle, and wanted to ride Space Mountain again. On our way over, we caught Mickeys PhilharMagic. I still think its my favorite of the 3D shows in WDW. There is nothing like seeing Ariel, Mickey, Donald, Aladdin, Jasmine, etc in a crisp 3D movie.
After another exhilarating ride on Space Mountain, we noticed that the building was open where the Incredibles were signing. Stitch was up first and had great reactions to our shirts, giving us thumbs down and waving us away from him. Mr. and Mrs. Incredible were next and really made a big to do for us. Both hugged us and made us turn around so they could read the backs of our shirts. Buzz Lightyear was also there and was a nice addition to our collection.
It was time for the afternoon parade, so we grabbed a spot in front of the castle and watched it. It was nice to have the castle as a parade backdrop, but I still like the other park parades much better. I guess maybe I just expect much more for being in the Magic Kingdom something that would really blow me away.
We decided to head over to the Toontown tent, do the three lines and get some autographs and photos. First we did Minnie/Pluto/Goofy, followed by Pooh/Eeyore/Tigger and finally Aurora/Cinderella/Snow White. The Princesses were awesome and had a great reaction to both our book and shirts. Aurora looked through a majority of the book, admiring the pages for each character. At one point, all three princesses were together and reading our shirts saying how great they were. Needless to say, DD had an awesome time in there with them and got lots of attention. I definitely love the way the tent is set up and think its one of the best ways to meet a bunch of characters & take a nice break in the day.
We hadnt been on the train yet, so we took it over to Frontierland where we rode Thunder Mountain again. Upon exiting, we noticed that some CMs were there distributing wristbands for the EMH that night so we went ahead and got ours A quick check of the show schedule led us to try and see Cinderellabration before our dinner in the castle. We got awesome seats, but it started to sprinkle right before the performance and they cancelled it. A nearby CM said the stage must be 100% dry, or the show is cancelled. We hoped that we could find time later in the trip to catch this show (we never did
)
We got in another showing of PhilharMagic again since we now had 20 minutes to kill before dinner. Our ADR at CRT was for 6:10, and we arrived at 6:05. We were not seated until 6:30. Hate when that happens! Again, see the dining review for details on the CRT dinner.
Dinner was over at 7:30, so we headed to the front of the castle to catch Wishes. Wed already seen it on the cruise and we wanted to do Space Mountain again, so we stayed fairly close to the front of the castle. I must say that we missed at least 80% of the fireworks as they were not visible from our location, blocked by the castle itself. Unfortunately, Tinkerbell didnt fly either so Wishes was a little disappointing.
We rode Space Mountain again after Wishes and then took another ride on the Tomorrowland Transit Authority to see Tomorrowland all lit up at night. After exiting TTA, we noticed that there were actually lines now for Buzz and SM, with the posted times being 30 minutes. I guess it really is true to avoid the nighttime EMH.
We had ridden everything multiple times & it was nearing 10:00, so we decided to leave the park and head back to the resort. On our way out, we managed to get Meeko and Gov. Ratcliffes autographs which was awesome since Meeko is one of DDs favorite characters.
After a short 5 min wait for the bus, we made it back to the resort where we grabbed some drinks from the food court. It was finally time for this Incredible team to call it a night.
Only two and a half days left now, but some exciting things still planned. Our plan for Thursday was to start off at Epcot, get a Behind the Seeds tour in and hop over to MK to catch Spectromagic (per the recommendations of vettechick99 and other DISers).
