Day 2 with my new Rebel

I took some of the kids and a friend out for a hike today and took a few (130) pictures. Here are a few of them, any advice on how to improve would be much appreciated. The pictures of the creek didn't come out as well as I would have liked, and I know that a lot of that is because the day was a kind of overcast, but I am not sure I am setting things correctly.

This is just my preference - but I don't ever take pictures on b&w/sepia/etc at the time of the picture. You can do all of those transformations in most photo editing software packages and still have the original full color images.

I think your creek pictures look fine. There's just not a lot of extremes in them (really light and really dark) so they don't 'stand out'. I'd try at different times of the day...
