Today was early entry for MGM but did we take advantage of it. Of course not! This was going to be a laid back vacation.
After waking up at 7:00 am, we followed the gray brick road to the food court. Joe and James heated up pastries in the microwave for breakfast to eat in the dining hall while Carol and I got our hot chocolate and coffee and took them back to the room to have with what we were eating in the room.
I think that we made it to the West Depot about 9:00, which is about the time we got there most days. One Epcot bus went by, then Downtown Disney. Another Epcot bus and another Downtown Disney. Magic Kingdom appeared and Animal Kingdom. Wow, we must have just missed our bus! Finally, MGM drove up. This went on every day no matter what time we got to the Depot. Not that we cared, in fact, it became a joke to us that we always seemed to just miss our bus. We made it into a game, predicting which bus would be next and we were usually correct.
Anyway, we were off to MGM. The bag check was not bad, but it could be a bit more orderly. No defined lines until you got right up to the tables. The area right past the gates was quite crowded with people taking photo ops with characters so we bypassed them and headed straight to Rockin' Roller Coaster. I chickened out so Joe and James got a Fast Pass. They had an hour to wait. Indiana Jones was starting soon. Off we headed for that.
We didn't see anything new in this show from when we saw it six years ago except for the audience volunteers. There were some real characters in this group. They really hammed it up for the crowd.
Time for the Rockin' Roller Coaster Ride. Carol and I shopped Sunset Boulevard while Joe and James went on the ride. Carol found a real cute Pooh birthstone necklace.
Joe and James gave a thumbs up for the Rockin' Roller Coaster. They assured me that I made the right choice in not riding it. I would have gotten sick they said. For all of you that have percussionists in your family, James bought a pair of multicolored drumsticks that has Rockin' Roller Coaster imprinted on them at a souvenier cart near the ride. Makes a great souvenier. They were only $15 too!
We were hungry so we headed to, I believe the name is Rosie's All American Cafe, on Sunset Boulevard to eat. I had planned to go back to our hotel room to eat, but, hey, what can I say? It was worth the money we paid.
After lunch, a fast pass for Who Wants to Be a Millionaire was in order. Another hour wait. The Great Movie Ride was calling us. This was one of our longest waits. We got the cowboy. Would like to see this ride updated.
On to Sounds Dangerous. One of the other guests decided to be a jerk and laugh loudly and make comments throughout the show. After another person in the audience told him to shut up, the CM in charge came in over the loud speaker, threatening him that if he didn't be quiet, he would be thrown out of the park. Well, he just talked back to the CM and here the CM came. But did the man get thrown out? No, much to the disappointment of the rest of the audience. Maybe it was because the show was about over, I don't know. We were all invited to stay for another show but not many did.
It was time to play Millionaire. We loved this game! Joe was in the top ten the first go around. They had just started a new prize for the million dollar question - a Disney cruise! I could play this game all day.
Once we left Millionaire we got an ice cream. Those strawberry bars are not the same as what I had two years ago. Disappointment!
Oh, the parade is about to start! Could we get a spot up close? Of course not. We were able to stand on a wall to see the majority of it. The person announcing the cars as they came along was dressed up as a policeman. He was so funny! Every time he saw one of the female characters he said, "She smiled at me. I think I'm in love!" By the end of the parade, Joe was chanting this along with him. In fact, I heard that particular phrase quite a lot throughout the trip and still do.
We headed back to our hotel to grab our jackets for the evening. We knew that once it got dark, it would cool off. And once again, we just missed our bus. This time we wanted the Magic Kingdom.
I just love walking down Main Street. Bag check was not bad at all in the afternoon. We went left and once Carol saw the Magic Carpet Ride, she just had to do it so she and Joe took off while James and I found a place to sit. This particular section was crowded. It seems to be in a location where lots of people just come together. We saw several families that had a hard time finding the entrance to the ride. Carol gave it a thumbs up.
Pirates of the Caribbean was next. We enjoyed it. While waiting in line, we were in a spot where on the other side of the wall the line was higher up and a couple of little boys were sticking their hands through the windows. They couldn't see us and all we could see were their hands. Joe, being tall and a clown, grabbed a hold of their hands. We didn't see those hands any more.
After the ride, Carol spotted a hair wrap booth. Since I had told her before our trip she could have one done if we found a place, we stopped and waited while she got a hair wrap. Darkness settled in while we waited. We decided that we might as well find a place to sit for the Spectromagic parade. We had missed this on our last two trips.
We found a spot across from the statue of Walt and Mickey on the walkway to Tomorrowland. We were sitting in the second row back and felt like we had pretty good seats, just a long wait, an hour and a half. Oh well, we were here to do things that we hadn't been able to do or see before.
A married couple with two younger children sat behind us before long. They did not sit far enough behind us to give their little kids room to move around much. Joe, Carol and I had to endure being bumped into by those kids for over an hour. James was fortunate enough to be sitting in front of us. But we understood, they were little, probably 2 and 4.
About 20 minutes before the parade was to begin, James turned around and asked me was that was on the ground. I looked down and the little girl had spilt her apple juice. The ground was so cold that I had not noticed that my pants were soaked. Did I get an apology from the mother? No, she just made a noise and picked up the little girl's cup.
The parade was to start at 7:00 and about 10 till I had had enough. Joe, Carol and I stood up. About 5 minutes later. a man in another family behind us asked me to sit down. I told him that there was spilt apple juice on the ground. Oh, it wasn't that much he said to me. I replied that I knew, that I had been sitting in it. He didn't reply. And once the parade started, the daddy of the little girl had the nerve to whisper loudly to his wife that he guessed we weren't going to sit back down. Now, would you?
The parade was beautiful. My pictures came out nicely. With only 30 minutes till the fireworks, we changed locations, found one clear of apple juice and made camp. It was right underneath where Tinkerbell was to fly. Tinkerbell's flight was the best part. The fireworks seemed to be lacking this time.
We decided to leave the park. We had originally thought to maybe catch a few rides while the second parade was going but we were too tired physically, too tired of small children and besides, my pants were soaked.
Back at the resort, we ate in the room and turned in for the night.
No lime green ribbons today.
