Day 2 - Friday March 9

Cast:
Me, DH K-man, DS J-boy (age 5), and DS The Beast (age 2, almost 3)

Today was to be a resting day.....except that our alarm clock went off at 6:30 am. Why? I’m not sure, but the clocks at the YC are strangely complex. In my early morning stupor, I couldn’t figure it out, so I just turned down the radio. What you can’t solve by finesse, solve by brute strength.

Everyone’s awake. It’s no use trying to get preschoolers back to sleep. Oh well, we get up.

Breakfast is in the room -- mini-boxes of cereal, milk from the mini-bar, and juice boxes. By about 8:00 we’ve watched cartoons, eaten, dressed, washed and are ready to go, go, go. But on a non-park day, there’s nothing to do at 8:00 am.

Hmmmm.....I put on my thinking cap. We decide to drive to ASM to see the Toy Story building, and play around a bit in Andy’s Room. The boys both like Toy Story. I thought they’d like it.

You guessed, the Beast was afraid of the larger than life Woody and Buzz. After some time, comforting, and coaxing he did run around a bit. We took pictures, looked at the pool, the food court and even peeked in the windows of a room (hey! if you didn’t want me to look in, you should have drawn your curtains!)

Before this, I thought I might like ASM. After this, I’m not so sure. The place seemed a bit chaotic, high energy -- similar to the manic atmosphere at Chef Mickey’s. The theming is indeed fun, but I’m not sure I could relax.

We then took a drive on 192 to look for a grocery store. The boys had gone through about 20 of the 24 juice boxes I packed in the mega-suitcase. After traffic and “words” between DH and I, we found the Publix at 192 and 535. So, now we’re loaded up with juice, Snapple, bananas, and bottled water. It was much more convenient to get back to the Epcot resort area than to get there from the AK area.

After battling the traffic and road construction, plus seeing the kistchy tourist area on 192, I think I’ll stay on site. It’s back to the whole relaxation thing.

Next is mini-golf at Fantasia Gardens. We missed this in the Sept-Stress trip, after we had promised the boys. Using our AMEX card saved us 15%, the Beast is still free. We got squirted by the elephant. J-boy got a hole-in-one (truly amazing), and I beat the pasty white behind of K-man (he’ll tell you a different story, but don’t believe him. Trust me....really.)

After taking the groceries to the room, we retire to B&C for lunch. K-man and I both had burgers (greasy and dee-lish), and boys split a kid’s hot dog platter. Between them they ate exactly one bite of hot dog and 8 french fries. Total. The Beast is cranky, so we go back to the room for naps. It’s made up, but no special Pluto / Wormy diorama (oh well).

Storm-Along Bay was inviting after a rest. We stayed in the “sand-bar” section with the shallow water. Wow. The sun is shining, and there’s nothing to use a snow-blower on anywhere is sight. Ah.......

The sand bar is mostly in the shade and we’re all getting a bit cool. Back to the room. Outside our window is a wedding. Cool. The bride is older (late-forty-ish) and she looks radiant. There’s a string quartet. I have to keep shushing the boys. How nice!

While the boys are resting, I make a phone call to Fairy Godmother’s for Sunday night. All’s set for a grown up night out. If you’re interested, their rates were $12 / hour, a one hour charged travel time, 4 hour minimum. Which calculates out to $60 for 4 hours.

Our PS tonight is for Cape May. K-man vetoes. He’s just not up to an all-you-stuff-in-your-face-buffet. So we decide to go to the Crossroads to Pizzeria Uno. We both like Uno’s and don’t have one in our area.

The theme of the night is WET. See if you can determine why.

We pack the boys in the car, hit every red light between the YC and Crossroads. K-man starts unbuckling the Beast from the car seat.

K-man: Are you wet?
Beast: No.
K-man: Then why are your pants wet?
Beast: I dunno.
K-man: (to me) Is he wet?
Me: (feeling his pants) Beast, did you pee your pants?
Beast: No.
K-man: Did you bring spare clothes?
Me: No.

He’s soaked, pee is the culprit. It begins to rain. The low point of vacation is fast approaching. We drive from the Crossroads to the YC, again, hitting each and every red light. Grrrrr.....

During the drive back, we’re all on edge. I actually use the term “PS” instead of “reservation” when announcing that our PS time at Cape May is already past. K-man, who thinks I’m on the DIS too much seethes. The rain isn’t helping. Then, the button on the gear shift that allows you to engage the transmission just pops out. What was bad is now worse.

Boy soaked in pee. Everyone hungry. Broken (but drive-able) car. Seething DH. Angry Mommy.

K-man changes the Beast’s clothes. They get back to the car with the Beast hanging his head. The only explanation I get from DH is, “We had words.”

It’s about 6:45 or so -- late for preschoolers to eat. We drive back to Uno’s, this time getting a few green lights. It’s still raining. What’s now known as the “Pee Incident” lost us almost an hour.

The pizza was good. We all ate a lot. J-boy got grease on his shirt, lap, and the hem of his pants. How, tell me how, does a boy get grease on the hem of his long pants? Grrr......

We finally get back to the room about 8:30. I’m screaming about the grease, still a bit mad about the “Pee Incident”. Bad Mommy moments ensued, which I will not describe.

Tomorrow is park day, so we all turn in early. I finally figure out the incredibly complex alarm clock and set it for 5:55 -- my normal work day time to get up.

So far.......
1. My feet feel good.
2. National office on site will be used.
3. Will I have to do laundry? Oh....I hope not.

These reports are hilarious....I lived this
back in '94. Our darlings were just about
4 and 2 years old. We stayed 7 days that trip
and we bought strollers to bring down with us.

The strollers and a Disney babysitter were the best investments we made. We went on all the
"kiddie" rides and our 2 year old would
wake up screaming about Mr.Toad or some wicked witch at 2 in the morning. (Time for a pool/resort day).

Your story brings back alot of memories and laughs. :-)

Enjoying your trip reports! Thanks for Posting!

Me thinks you should have left The Beast home with grandparents! ;)

You sure are making me nervous about my first trip with small children! I guess you have to adopt a different philosophy!
