Has anyone booked an up close glacier tour in Alaska, on DCL or on another line? It looks like when the ship approaches the glacier (in this case Dawes Glacier), instead of viewing it from the ship you get in a smaller boat and get closer to it. On one hand, I kind of like the idea of being on the ship and casually viewing everything from above, maybe with a cup of hot tea or cocoa. It's probably more comfortable to stay on the ship. On the other, getting even closer looks cool, you get to see the glacier better, and by being in the water you really get a better scale of how big the glacier is. Also, I love wildlife so I would love to potentially see some seals in the water or maybe bears on the coast. It's a lot of money, but is it worth it? This Alaska trip may be a one time thing so now I'm getting some pre-cruise FOMO! We already have a whale watch and Mendenhall glacier visitor center excursion booked as well.
