I have a friend who is taking her DS6 to WDW in April and he is nuts about Davy Crockett.....does anyone know if he makes an appearance anywhere in the World? :wave2:

I've only seen Davy Crockett referred to in the Hoop Dee Doo Dinner Show at Fort Wilderness. A lucky boy from the audience is asked to play Davy Crockett himself in the show. It's a lot of fun where they sing, dance, and tell jokes!

The presence of "Davy Crockett, King of the Wild Frontier" should be more visible in all Disney parks, especially in Frontierland. After all, the Disney-created Crockett Craze of 1954-56 spawned more merchandise items (approximately 5,000) than 20 years and six episodes of "Star Wars" (some 4,000 different items). And Crockett was a real historical person!

There are, for example, a number of Crockett touches in the Magic Kingdom. Excerpts from "The Ballad of Davy Crockett" can be heard at the entrance to the park, and the intrumental theme from "Bang Goes Old Betsy" can be heard at the entrance of "Big Thunder Mountain Railroad." Look for a number of recreated items, like Davy's hunting bag and plans for "Old Betsy" to George Russell's "And that's the truth" May 25, 1825 letter in the Pecos Bill Cafe. Of course, there are some wonderful items at the Crockett Tavern at Fort Wilderness, particularly Jim Noble's goregeous color painting of Fess Parker, star of Davy Crockett.

There have been no real-life characterizations of Davy Crockett in the Magic Kingdom since the late-1980s when a "buckskinned" cast member appeared in the afternoon parade (it coincided with the new "Davy Crockett" TV series which starred Tim Dunigan).

Davy Crockett remains the greatest hero of the Baby Boomers. And each spring there's an annual gathering of Crockett fans at the Crockett Tavern!

"Be sure you're right, then go ahead!"

This has absolutely nothing to do with the original question, but I found out recently that he was a good friend of my mom's growing up, and that my grandparents and his parents used to double-date back in the day.

I know, but that's like one of my very few quasi-brushes with fame, such as it is, and it ain't like it ever comes up in everyday conversation, so clearly I had to trot it out now.

Sadly, Davy Crockett is not a meetable characters in the parks. A few years ago, I saw him name on some character website lists, but even then those lists were probably old at that time. If he was a meetable character, he hasn't been out in years and years. He does have an official signature, though, so at least Disney gave that much to him! :)

The faux coonskin caps used to be identified as "Davy Crockett" on the tags but most seem to be a generic frontier cap now. In fact, the manufacturer primarily sells them as "Daniel Boone" caps.

Good question. Now that I'm thinking about it, Davy Crockett was a major figure with Disney in the 50s and has all but disappeared in the theme parks.

As previously mentioned, there is reference to him in the Hoop-Dee-Doo Revue (I got to play Davy's angel once - tell anyone and you're dead). Other than that, Fess Parker made an appearance at Epcot several years ago, but that was for the Food and Wine Festival and his winery produced the official anniversary wine (good wine, I might add).

A Davy Crockett character in Frontierland would seem very appropriate. Perhaps even in the Main Street Parade.

Baby Boomers and their kids (and grandkids!) would thoroughly enjoy a Crockett character in Frontierland!

Yeah, Fess was there two years ago. His Syrah and Pinot Noir wines are first rate! Fess does a question and answer column for The Crockett Chronicle, a quarterly spinoff of The Alamo Journal.
