My husband (Dave) loves Reuben sandwiches, and somehow had a lot of them during our 8 days at Orlando theme parks. These are his findings.

Finnegan's (Universal Studios) - Pretty bad. Instead of sauerkraut and thousand island dressing, there was coleslaw. Maybe it was an Irish Reuben? Regardless, not good. Salad side was bare lettuce.

Plaza Restaurant (Magic Kingdom) - Decent. Meat was good, but the whole thing was very dry and it could have used a lot more dressing. Bonus points for the excellent housemade chips accompanying it.

Beaches & Cream (Beach Club Resort) - Excellent. Great-tasting sandwich with a nice choice of sides.

Sci-Fi Diner (DHS) - Excellent. Great taste. Cucumber salad was meh as a side (if you don't want fries) but the atmosphere at is restaurant more than makes up for that.

Anyone else have any Reuben reviews?

A Reuban with coleslaw instead of sauerkraut is a Rachel sandwich. I prefer Rachels

Around here a Rachel is the same as a Reuben, but with turkey instead of corned beef.

I don't care for meat on my sandwiches, so I get just the sauerkraut, swiss, and thousand island. YUM!!!!!

I love that Dave has been trying all the Reubens in WDW. Sounds like something I would do LOL.

I'm always really hesitant to try reubens because they can be pretty awful. Does Dave like big slabs of corned beef or does he like thinly sliced? I thought if we ate at B&C on our next trip I might try one...but only if it's deli thin slices of corned beef.

Here is what the Book of Knowledge says: The Rachel sandwich is a variation on the standard Reuben sandwich, substituting pastrami for the corned beef, and coleslaw for the sauerkraut. Other recipes for the Rachel call for turkey instead of corned beef or pastrami.

So, basically, about any change you make to the Reuben makes it a Rachel.

I completely agree--Beaches and Cream has one of the best Rueben's on property. Tell him to try the Wave--slow service, but a VERY good rueben. I remember the Grand Floridian Cafe having a good sandwich too.

Our son-in-law is a Reuben lover as well. If there is a Reuben on the menu, he will be eating it! When he was in Germany on business--he sought out restaurants serving the sandwich so he could compare.

I have to agree--Beaches & Cream had one fantastic Reuben--I had it there a month ago and it was very meaty, moist and delicious! No scrimping on the sauerkraut and Thousand Island either. After our rave reviews, the son-in-law can't wait to get back to BC and try it for himself. We are fortunate to have a local mom and pop restaurant that whips of wonderful Reubens as well. Those sandwiches are definitely on par with B&C. I will have to give Sci-Fi's version a go this fall.

Okay, i finally got Dave to answer this for me. He says:

universal studios: medium (3 slices?)
beaches: thicker than medium (4 slices?)
sci-fi theater: medium (3 slices?)

Aaaaannnndddddd...... I was going through our photos, and it turns out Dave took pics of some of his choices.

This thread makes me so happy!!! I love Reuben sandwiches and we'll be checking in TOMORROW! I'll be sure to get over to B&C to try theirs and I'll also try the one at Grand Floridian since we're staying there.

I am happy to say that the Reuben I had at B&C was much more stuffed than this one and quite juicy--so juicy in fact, I needed extra napkins. Guess I got lucky! I cannot recommend those onion rings though. We used to love them but when we were there in May they were fairly tasteless, greasy AND in need of a good dipping sauce other than catsup.
