Dave Ramseying to Disney! Some final thoughts 8/18

To Agent or Not? To TGM or not?

  • Go it alone. It is worth all of the effort to plan it the way I want it.

  • Get the help. The right travel agent is worth his/her weight in pirate gold.

  • Plan it myself but get Tour Guide Mike to help with the itinerary.

  • Get the works. Use an agent AND buy Tour Guide Mike.

Sorry it took me so long to answer this, but the book has a little bit of both...stories and snippets. It's a really quick and easy read, but filled with lots of interesting things!

Coming in late. We will be in the world around the same time you are. We are also Dave Ramsey supporters so your title drew me in. Our current trip was completely paid for with found money so I am excited to see you do this as well.

Thanks. That sounds perfect!

Love me some found money. It is crazy that we used to stress over how to pay for things after they were already bought. Paying for things before you buy them is such a wonderful novel idea! Hope you have a great trip. Did you book your trip on a deal? Free kids, dining, pincode?

Well, the poster is about done. I just have to tape all of the mickey heads on to the squares. I'll post pictures when it is done. I have done a little more Mickey shopping. And I am starting on all of my lists. Once in a while I will be on the treadmill and I will think "ponchos!". I'm not panicked, but I need to organize these thoughts a little better.
So for our pirate makeovers on day 1 I was going to have the kids wear costumes. We have a pirate costume for Brady, an Elizabeth Swan costume for Abby and well, we would make or find something for Colin (Colin is too young to get the pirate makeover) but the boy costume is the kind you step into and has those scratchy velcros and is made out of yucky synthetic whatever. With potty training/ pullups that did not seem practical. And Abby's is very big. It has 3/4 sleeves, the scratchy stuff and well looks like this (Abby in the costume when it was way too big and Mommy had to pin it up in about 10 places)

And we all remember how much trouble this dress caused poor Elizabeth Swan in the first place. Also, our res for this is at 9am so the kids either wear the costumes ALL park day or we try to stuff them under the stroller with about 100 other things. So, I decided to go the simple route and get Abby a pirate pillowcase dress and Brady a pirate shirt. So much easier. And they can wear these things again and again.

This was $16 shipped from etsy. Never forget to email an etsy seller and tell them that you are considering their item and another and see if they can knock a couple of dollars off. That is how I buy everything from etsy. They will almost always throw in free shipping (that is what I got with this dress).
The shirt for Brady is a NWT gymbo shirt that is really cute. Not from this year. It has a sketch of a pirate ship and says arrrggh! I finally linked my new checking account to paypal and had a 10% coupon so it came to $6.40 shipped. Pretty good. And now maybe they won't be begging for pirate stuff at the makeovers.
Additionally I have been hiding away some more treasures.
This for Daddy. Bought at Target. No deal. Just a fun shirt. I also got him a vintage Star Wars shirt but he has been wearing it and it is in a stack of folded tshirts somewhere. I hope he will wear this bright green.

This shirt is for Abby. Clearance at toys r us. $3!

We ordered the kids resort pins again from ebay. We get resort pins each visit. These are untradeable as set up in the Percy by-laws. And Abby is getting this

for the Pick-a-pearl in Japan.
All of these treasures will be handed out as they lift certain flaps on the countdown posters. Yeah!

I love shopping, even when it's someone else's stuff!! I LOVE that dress! I've never bought anything from etsy, but I have a couple of pillowcase dresses bookmarked on there and didn't know to email; thanks for the tip:thumbsup2!

I think the more comfortable pirate clothes is a good decision. The non-tradeable resort pins sound cool. I love doing Disney shopping.:cool1:

I got a 40% off pin. Great deal! Plus, I got my airfare for $98 each way which sweetened the deal. The trip isnt cheap, but we managed to get what we want and do it within the budget we provided and we didnt have to use any paychecks to do it. I agree that it is crazy to stress about paying for things you have already purchased. We never really got into this because dh saw his parents struggle all their lives to afford their lifestyle. His dad was never home, worked 2-3 jobs to pay for his moms shopping and lifestyle choices. He resented that and decided to never be like this. Before we were married a dave ramsey financial peace class was offered at my church and he signed us up. We were the only non married not in debt couple there. However, Dave's teachings have kept us on track. Only a few times have we ever had debt in our ten year marriage. Each time we adopted, we did owe attorneys for a short time, and before adoption, we paid in payments for invitro, and our biggest debt was when we found out our dd needed more chemo treatments but the insurance denied her treatment so we paid for it. I wish everyone could have the joy of living debt free. It is such a freeing experience.

OH MY GOSH...That pirate dress!!!! Can you please give me the link to the etsy seller? I am IN LOVE with it! I just got my monthly reward for the Hasbro panel I belong to, and that's what it may go toward!

I just got through a lot of your PTR. What a beautiful family. I don't think I commented yet because I wanted to finish. That is awesome. You are a money inspiration. Your kids are so lucky to have you both.

Thanks. Yeah, we would love to say we have pins from every resort because we have stayed at every resort but that may take a long time!

:) Hi, Im joining in here! I am also in Alabama, about an hour below Huntsville! I've got to go catch up on your PTR now! :flower3:

that dress is adorable! and it looks like it will be wearable for the whole day.

when we packed for the last trip...we put each days clothes for the whole family in a walmart bag, then packed those in the suitcases. Everyone had a separate bag for their undies and swimsuits, then i had a tote for all the tinkerbell treats and the ponchos glowsticks and fun stuff like that. it made mornings really easy.

That is a great idea. I was thinking about getting those space bags but I had a friend who said hers ripped at some point during the trip and she could not get her stuff back in her bag.

Hi! Your PTR is great! Love my fellow Bama gals.

Awhile back I said I was going to recap some of our past Disney trips in this PTR. I love looking back and seeing how our family and children have grown. So we already looked at 2005. Abby was 4 months old and we were there for a conference. Fast forward 2 years and we have our 2007 trip. We left Alabama on New Year's Day. We drove to Titusville and had a horrid night in a motel. We spent the next day visiting with great-grammy.

After lunch we hit the road for the 40 minute drive to POFQ. We walked past the pool
DSCF0310.jpg

in a light drizzle to catch the boat to DTD.
DSCF0317.jpg

Abby got some ears. These are actually the only ears we own. Ears are kinda uncomfortable!
DSCF0315.jpg

DSCF0316.jpg

She hated the pirate and all of the skeletons. There was a big scary display in WoD and it was pretty scary. We were very worried this would set a bad tone for the rest of the trip. It didn't. She became pirate obsessed!
DSCF0318.jpg

But at not-quite 2-and-a-half these were much more appealing. princess:
After DTD we took the bus over to BC and had a wonderful dinner at Cape May. By then the rain had stopped and we got to take a great stroll around Crescent Lake. It was a great night. We took two buses to get back to POFQ and laid our heads to rest dreaming of our first family park day ever: Epcot and AK EMH. Yeah! But little did we know that the deliciousness that was Cape May would come back to haunt us and haunt us...

Let me give you the cliffs note version of the night. It was hell. whatever those little fishies gave me was absolute poison. But I was going to try my hardest not to let it ruin our day. We hopped on the bus for Epcot as early as we could. Our first stop was Mission Space. Tom had wanted to ride that since he first heard that NASA was involved. We were originally going to child-swap. But alas I was still really weak. I was trying to take sips of water but kept having to run to the bathroom every five minutes. It was awful. On top of that January cold rain had turned into like 88 degrees at some point. We were dressed wrong and melting. I think we rode Nemo and did Crush and then we called it a day at Epcot.

DSCF0322.jpg

I felt like I let everyone down. We got back to our room and tried to nap with Tom and Abby there but it just wasn't happening. I asked him to take her to the pool and stay awhile-like a couple of hours.
DSCF0325.jpg

He did and I got to sleep. It was lovely. When I woke up I was hungry and ready for fun. I felt great the whole rest of the trip.
That night we went to AK. I don't have any pics it seems. We ate at Flame Tree in the pouring rain. Luckily we had covered seating. We rode dinosaur (child swap) and did It's Tough to Be a Bug. We walked around in the dark a lot. It was crowded and raining so we left. But I was so happy to be feeling better that it was okay. Tom had never been to AK and he really liked it.

That looks like a really fun day! I bet it was a whole other type of trip, going with one little girl, instead of going with three kids.

We love Cape May Cafe! I can't wait til my boys are old enough to be able to handle it.

I think I've finally caught up with most of your PTR, and loving it. The pictures are great! :lovestruc

The rest of the trip is more a blur. Abby rode everything she could and never complained. She only whimpered at meeting Snow White because she had just ridden Snow White Scary Adventure. She loved the Little Mermaid at DHS and had a blast on the teacups.

It was so hot that we resorted to putting her in her bathing suit and a t-shirt. The temps were record high for January. We had to rewear shorts. I always smile when I see pics of people bundled up at the parks in January. That was not us at all!

In all the trip was great. We had 4 park hopper days. We did a lot of EMH and park hopping. We parked our car and never even looked at it again until our last night when we drove it to AKL for Boma. We had 3 ADRs. Cape May Cafe (now that it has been 4 years, I would eat there again. I love seafood and it was delish). Boma which was my favorite food ever and somehow we have not made it back there. And Biergarten. Yuck. We have really good German food here. All of the Nazi rocket scientists who developed our rockets and started the Apollo program were secretly located here and so there are a lot of Germans here. We had our second trip to POFQ and we deemed it perfect in every way.
And the BEST part of the trip was when we won A Year of a Million Dreams Dream FastPasses at Animal Kingdom. We got to walk on Everest, Safaris, Dinosaur and Kali. It was great. I wish they would bring that back!
