Are the return times given for DAS a window of time, or anytime after the set return time. In other words, are they more flexible with DAS return times?

DAS Return Times have a set time you must return after, but after that time, they are flexible and you can return at any time that day.
If you have not seen the DAS threads near the top of this board, I would suggest checking them out. There is one for WDW and one for DL.
The first post in each thread is a FAQs about the DAS.
You don't have to be at the ride at the return time they give you, you can go at a later time, but, you only get to have one return time at a time, so you won't be able to use DAS to get a new return time until you've used the one you already had.
I used the DAS card on my last trip. We didn't have any problems with return times except once at Peter Pan of all places. The CM actually wrote "1:00-2:00" in the return column. Normally they are just supposed to write a single time (such as "1:00"). I reminded him that there are no time windows for the DAS. He said that they were instructed to write return windows for Peter Pan specifically. That made zero sense to me. The rules don't discriminate between rides. The return window worked for us, so I didn't press the matter. The point is, make sure that the CM is writing the correct thing on your card.

I was just going to echo about making sure the correct information is written on the DAS before walking away.
We were there right after Daylight savings time went into effect. I know the CM meant well but first off she was using a clock that was 'dead' lol. It was approximately 2:30 and the clock was showing some time after 5:00. And then when she filled out the line she tried to write it in military style time but wrote 26:00. Huh?? There is no such time. She was a sweet thing but a bit confused! Her lead walked up to check and see what was going on and to try and help her. She obviously wasn't getting it...so he sent us on thru I think because he felt we had been patient enough and subjected to more than we should have. I think he was pretty mortified that she hadn't figured out that the time on the clock had never changed the whole time we had been standing there!!
