Does a minor child need to be present for the video pre-registration? Having a tough time getting through before school. Evenings after work are late.

Yes, the DAS-holder must be present for a picture regardless of age. Maybe try on the weekend? Or after school until bedtime? Just let the chat sit open nearby and go about your usual chores preparing dinner, etc.

Thanks. I was hoping to help my daughter out by doing this for my grandson but I guess I cannot do that.

Oh, I see. Yes the child will need to be available. Maybe they can give it a try on the weekend. But if family life is a little too chaotic for them to find time for the video chat, she can always register him for DAS in the parks after they arrive.

I registered for my 4 year old son. I actually logged on right at 6AM on a Sunday morning to get in the queue, while my son was still sleeping. I got a little message when I was next in line, so I called up to my wife and asked her to start waking him up. She hadn't gotten him downstairs by the time it was my turn. I chatted with the CM without my son present. Once it was clear he qualified, she asked for him to be on screen for the photo. She gave me a few minutes to finish getting him up and to the screen. He took the photo in his PJs. They didn't mind waiting for him for a short while or that he was barely awake in the photo. And as soon as his photo part was done, he went back to sleep and I finished up the registration and pre-selection without him. Maybe you can plan for an early weekend morning like that? They really only need him for all of 2 seconds to snap a photo.

Yep, In the picture but standards are low. The cast member was super nice but the picture is her sort of behind my shoulder peeking over the couch. It doesn’t have to be a good photo 😝
I believe it pops up when you tap in so they can verify. And second the above. I logged in at 7 and it said long wait. I got breakfast and figured I might as well start the clock now and got a cast member in under 10 minutes. I’d planned on using wait time to choose my preselected rides but made them up on the spot (and didn’t use a ton of them anyhow).

A minor child needs to be registered by a parent or guardian, so one of his parents would need to be present to register him anyway.

The person being registered for DAS needs to be present for their photo to be taken.
That photo is used to verify that the person registered for DAS is actually the person using it. They scan in for attractions with their ticket or Magicband (or an adult scans for them) before the other members of their group. The Mickey icon at the scanner glows blue to alert the CM for a message on the screen the CM can see. The picture pops up on the screen and the CM clears the alert snd blue light, then the other members of the group can scan it.

If the picture is really bad, you can go to Guest Relations or one of the blue Guest Experience umbrellas in a park and have it re-taken. When we did my daughter’s last DAS registration, she was half asleep after having a seizure. The phone CM said not to worry about it; she was recognizable in the picture and that was all that mattered. When we used DAS the first few times, the CM kind Of did a double take looking at the screen.
We went to Guest Relations at EPCOT to have it redone and the CM was very understanding. She said it’s not a frequent request because most pictures are OK, just not very becoming. My daughter looked unconscious, so getting It redone was a good idea
