DAS Question?

It has been 6 years since we have taken our Autistic son to Disneyland. He was 9 years old last time we tried and it did not go well. He is now 15 and we will be passing through Anaheim and he has decided he wants to go to Disneyland. We are only going for 1 day.

We are going to apply for DAS via video prior to going. My understanding is that we are able to get a pass for whatever ride he wants to go on that allows us to come back to ride the ride in whatever the posted ride wait time is at the time. When we come back to ride the ride where do we go? Is it like a lightning lane pass and we join the lightning lane or do we go somewhere else?

I am trying to figure out if it might work for him as he has huge problems waiting in long lines. He gets upset when we hit a stop light in the car. I'm skeptical that he can handle it but he wants to try so I want to try for him.

Can anyone offer some insight on how it works?

We haven’t used das at DL since 2021 but if it’s anything like wdw (which I believe it is) you would use the app to request the das return time. Then go up to the cast member at ur designated return time (who’s prob holding an iPad) and she’ll most likely let you tap into the ride. You should also check out the “disability” board on this site. Lots of info there. Good luck! Hope your son has an awesome time!

Just be aware DAS is more difficult to obtain these days even for those who show real need for it. Once you have a return time in the app and your window opens you go to the lightening lane. Wishing you lots of luck and I hope it works for him.

For rides with LL you will use the LL. For attractions without LL you will check in with the CM at the front of the attraction and they will tell you where to go, it can be different for each attraction.

Good luck with your interview...DAS much more difficult to get now. Keep us posted!

Sometimes when you join the LL, it can still be a 10-15 minute wait, big rides even longer. Most FL attractions have you enter through exit but those rides may not be appealing to a 15-year old.

When we went last year we talked to the CM at rides that don't have LL and they told us where to line up. Pirates, for instance. For everything else we used the LL entrance.

You'll be able to choose your DAS rides on your phone and it will give you a return time. 10 minutes after you scan into a ride you can choose your next one.

I hope your son gets approved!

  1. In the app, you'll select the attraction you want.
  2. You'll be given a DAS Return Time which is usually equivalent to the posted standby time minus 10 minutes.
  3. You may return to the attraction anytime after that DAS Return Time because it doesn't expire; however you may only hold 1 DAS Return Time at any given point.
  4. When you return to the attraction, usually you'll enter via the LL but if there isn't one just ask the CM and they'll direct you. The DAS-holder must tap in first.
  5. Keep in mind there may still be a wait once you enter the queue or attraction, sometimes as much as 20 minutes.
  6. You may select another attraction for a DAS Return Time 10 minutes after the last tap-in at the attraction.

This is the best part for us. If something happens and DS is not feeling it, we can delay going to the attraction/show. We are not held to a certain time like FastPass/Genie+/Lightning Lane/Whatever they change the name to next.

When they offered the advance selections I think we only used 1 time as that also follows the LL rules with set times.

Yes, much harder to get these days. Definitely check out the DISability forum. But I would add that a couple rides in particular always seem to have problematic LL times. For us, we often have to leave the line in Indy. Soaring, and occasionally Guardians. Depending on your line timing those can be upwards of 30 minutes. We rarely ride those when DS is with us. Good luck.
