DAS for 2 Holders or stick to one?

Hi! My family of 5 (2 adults, 3 teens) is going to Disney World in December. Our twins have a neurodegenerative disease and both would qualify for DAS. Grandma and Grandpa decided they are going to join us bringing our total party to 7. They will miss our first park day though and join on day 2.

We initially planned on only one DAS holder being necessary, under the eligible child who would access the most attractions, as our family unit of 5 would ride together. The last time we went to Disney it was a make-a-wish trip and long before these changes.

We plan to utilize preregistration via video chat.
My question for you seasoned planners- what is the best plan of action here?

Pre-register both of our eligible DAS holders. How would that impact advance selections? Is it even possible to have the same advance preselects for each? From what I gather in park return times would be similar if booked at the same tie. It is really important that we stay together- my guys require all hands on deck type of assistance. I was not expecting grandparents to join.

OR
Ask the CM for the DAS holder to exceed 6 total and include all 7 on one DAS.

Finally, does a DAS pass work at Mickey's Very Merry Christmas, or is it not allowed/necessary? We do not have park reservations that day, just the tickets.

I’m probably overthinking this but as I’m sure many of you know orchestrating a trip with individuals with complex needs is a little anxiety-producing. Being prepared is so important, we have planned this trip for so long and had to reschedule multiple times. My anxiety is high about traveling with my medically complex kiddos and I just want to make our experience as easy as possible once in the park.

Thanks for any tips and for helping this nervous mom!

I don't know if they will allow 7 on one DAS for the Advanced Selections for WDW; last I heard it was a hard limit of 6 total (counting the DAS-holder) for Advanced Selections. They will most likely extend it in the park, but that would leave the 2 extras unable to join for the Advanced Selections.

If you get 2 DAS, and both kids are managed on the same parent MDE account, you can do 1 video chat and get both done together; that should help with getting the Advanced Selections to align.

DAS should work for the party; I believe there was a post recently explaining how it works at the Halloween party so expect Christmas to be the same. I believe you can use regular DAS during the early party entry up until official closing time. Then for 30 minutes it is unavailable in the app but can be booked at an attraction; then it should return in the app for the official party hours.

I'm sure you know this, but the diagnosis does not qualify for DAS; the inability to access an attraction in a standard queue needs to be explained to the CM during the video. Just wouldn't want you to start the process and not get what you expect or not be prepared to explain. Hope you have a great trip!

The person with the DAS has to be physically there and in the park for everyone else to make it work. If you think the party is going to split, or someone is going to meet up later or something like that, you should take that into consideration.

So we have a party of 9, 10 on one day. I qualify for the DAS and my neice also qualified so our party comes to 7 non-das holders and 2 das holders. Since our party technically was to big they split our group up to 5 to one das holder, 4 to the other. It is cumbersome with advance reservations with 2 holders. Our return times are staggered and with slinky dog, 1/2 our party is able to do it while the other half can’t (due to availability). If possible for your party size I would do one das holder and have them extend your party to 7 so your return times will be the same for all rides.

Example- some of our rides are 12:30 pm for one group and 2:30 pm for the other group. In the end it is what it is and he did say if we tried to enter the queue at the same time for some closer scheduled rides (the one that are about an hour or hour and half apart) the cast member may let us all through…or we could aim to go to the blue tents for some help.

Just to clarify… this is the Advanced Selections, right? In-park regular DAS Return Times should be easy to coordinate the whole group.

Yes this the advance selections I haven’t been in the park yet so I’m not sure how that’ll go. I’ve read it’s easier to make selections in the park though.

If it's important to ride as a group, just ignore the pre-selections and make day of return times.
