I realize there's a thread landed disabilities, but it looked like no one has posted there in a long time so I'm throwing g this out to you guys.

In reading about the DAS it mentions temporary disabilities are considered & accepted at times. We aren't going until mid-September, but I have been struggling with & am undergoing treatment for extreme plantar fasciitis. The treatment seems to be helping-I have days when I have very little issues-but there are also days when I can barely walk it's so painful.

For those who have never had it I know the idea of considering this a disability may seem outlandish but when I can barely walk to the restroom-I know I'll never ever make it in the parks. I am planning on renting a scooter for when I have those days, but my concern is if I have a day that starts out seemingly well but then deteriorates while in the park. Those are the days I'd like to have the option of a DAS.

So all this is really just to ask if anyone has tried to get a DAS with plantar fasciitis as the reason & if so, what the outcome was?!

I don't think they'll issue a DAS for plantar fasciitis. It's a mobility issue and they'll more than likely recommend renting a wheelchair or ECV.

hi, have you thought about how you will manage outside of the parks without a wheelchair ?

my DD(19) has vasculitis which is active at the moment and we are due to go to Disney world in Nov (if the Dr gives her the all clear) we have decided to take our own wheelchair because although she is able to walk and function in everyday normal situations, Disney involves a lot of walking and energy, the wheelchair will make the holiday achievable for her, we haven't thought about if shes having a bad day and cant stand in a line, we will cross that problem if it happens.

I don't know if this was included in you research but there seems to be a lot of information here:

My wife has severe foot issues while at Disney, we have never applied for a DAS card. We usually just end up renting an ECV for the week, taking it back to the room at night to recharge. There are several companies that will deliver the ECV to your room at the beginning of your stay and pick it up at the end.

Most of the lines are now wheelchair or scooter accessible. So if you have an issue where walking is a problem, the solution is a scooter or wheelchair. A DAS wouldn't help.

The disABILTIES forum is very active, I am sure experts will answer your questions.
However, disabilities that are mobility related do not qualify for the DAS card. They will recommend a Wheelchair or ECV for these conditions. As maxiesmom stated most all lines are accessible. I would look into renting from an off site vendor. That way you will have an aide for all of the non park walking required as well. And it can be cheaper than renting daily in the parks.
Good Luck

Thanks for your input! I do plan on renting a scooter for the really bad days so maybe I'll just take it in everyday to be on the safe side.

That's what I would do. My husband and I, on separate occasions, have had to use a wheelchair (manual). If we were able to walk, we'd just do that and pushed the wheelchair in front of us. If not, we had it 24/7. But with your situation, I'd use it as much as possible to help with things.
