Darn weather!

I have fond memories of visiting Disneyland in the rain. It sort of kept the crowds down and we ended up waiting less time in line. I specifically remember going on Pirates something like 4 or 5 times in a row and running from the exit back to the entrance on the wet pavement. I think we were lucky not to get hurt slipping on wet pavement, but these are things you do when you're young and the adults tell the kids to enjoys themselves and meet up later.

They did of course sell cheap ponchos which we bought. I remember the specific day too - the Saturday (I believe the 24th) after Thanksgiving 1984. The boy group New Edition (with Bobby Brown) had a live concert on the stage at Tomorrowland. We got there late and couldn't see anything over the packed standing room crowd 8 deep.

I looked it up, and someone scanned a newspaper clipping of a Disneyland ad advertising those performances from the LA Times.

RSR DOES run in the rain we have rode it 3 times already today. :cool1:

Crowds are less in the rain. :thumbsup2:thumbsup2
RSR has been down most of the day! And we even got fast passes. :-(. We just finished dinner, so hopefully it's up by now.

As for temperature, I think it's relative. I'm from Sacramento, and I think the rain here is warm.

The parks are going to be deserted this weekend. Californians are scared of rain and its the deadest tourist season of the year. Enjoy being able to walk on to Space Mountain and ride Thunder without getting off. It'll be fun.

I'm in Long Beach for 5 days visiting my son. It's sunny and not too chilly in Kentucky (home) and dank, misty, drizzly and definitely, NOT a warm rain the last 2 days in Long Beach. Driving thru downtown today, the tops of the buildings weren't visible due to the fog and mist.

To those headed to Anaheim, remember a rainy day at DL beats ANY day in the office!::yes::

We didn't make it out to the park until about 2:30 The rain didn't bother us too much it seemed to be more of a drizzle and it definitely felt warm to us I was practically sweltering waiting in line for Luigi's and TSMM.

Only issue is it seemed a lot of rides were shut down. RSR, Goofy's Sky School, and Jumping Jellyfish all were closed when we tried riding. We went back to RSR 3 times and every time we were told no idea when it would be back up and running.

fireworks are dependent on the wind that comes in with the rain, if the winds are too high they are cancelled. It isn't necessarily the wetness but the wind. :)

Have fun, rain or not, you'll be in DL! :)

I am here right now. We talked to a cast member about the fireworks. The cloud cover sounds like it is the biggest issue when canceling the show. The person we talked to said if the clouds are too low the fireworks will either go above the clouds and nobody will be able to see or they will go off below the clouds which will bounce the sound straight back down which would cause lots of problems for ears and windows! They did them last night but I have not heard them tonight (we are back at the hotel).

I also asked about Radiator Springs Racers running in the rain. I was told they can run in the rain and the reason they were down today was not because of the rain. I am so glad we rode those our first day in the park so that we actually got a ride in!! My son loved them and went on it 4 or 5 times in a row Wednesday night.

Crowds were down on outdoor rides during the rain. We walked right on Dumbo which was a first! The parades were also cancelled today because of the weather. I thought it was a little cold but we survived the day with four little ones. I bought clear shower curtain liners at Target before we left and put one on each of my strollers...worked perfectly and kept the kids and everything else dry! They were $2.24 each and well worth every penny I spent!! If rain is forecasted for you bring extra shoes and socks for your kids if you can!

I think the fireworks just started so I am off to watch them out the window!

I just got back from DL this afternoon to northern Northern California. We spent 4 days in the parks. Monday and Tuesday were sunny. Wednesday and Thursday were on and off drizzly/misty. I was roasting wearing jeans, tank top, long sleeve, fleece jacket and boots. I thought it got chillier on the sunny days than the "rainy days". The lines were short for everything we rode RSR 4 times in the single rider line. I think our longest wait was maybe 15-20 minutes. The regular line was about 1 hour 40 minute wait. There were lots of characters out. There was no wind. They did parades and fireworks everyday.

We were in the parks today. First thing in the morning we walked on dumbo, Peter pan, haunted Mansion 2x, Buzz 3x, star tours and thunder mountain. It's started raining a little harder when we were done with all that. It was definitely not as cold as I was expecting! We took a long break and headed back at 5 and luckily no rain and again not as cold as I was expecting. Im not a shoe person so I went out in slippers and my toes didn't freeze like it did last year with no rain. Back at the hotel I heard the fireworks going off, when we were leaving they were setting up for WOC. What's nice about the rain is the crowds were on the lower side but some of the indoor rides got kind of long as we were leaving. It actually wasn't that bad but I am hoping for some Sun at least 1 of the 4 days we have left!

4th of July fireworks in San Francisco often has an issue with fog. And man there was a lot of fog in Southern California around Thanksgiving weekend although I don't think it affected the DL fireworks.

I remember specifically going to watch the fireworks in SF one year. I stayed around Fishermans Wharf where I had dinner and a few beers. I found a nice viewing spot and everything, but the fog just wouldn't go away. They did the fireworks show anyways. We could actually see a few of the low exploding fireworks clearly. There was a layer of fog that almost seemed like a sharp edge 100 ft into the air. Most of the fireworks ended up deep into the fog, and basically we saw the fog light up different colors. The sound was awesome though.

I'm from Suisun and when it's rained on So Cal I've thought it was cold. LOL

No, Californian's are scared of rain, Southern Californians are afraid of rain. :rotfl: I don't have a fear of rain. ;) lol

Oh good point about the cloud cover. LOL I didn't even think of that. :)

I leave first thing tomorrow morning for 4 days as well. Totally freaking out about the weather. I know its way warmer than the snow and cold that I am leaving - but I went to San Fran in May - the daytime temps were the same and it was sunny and I froze to death!!

My biggest concern is the cancellation of the parades/fireworks and Fantasmic! - I wiill be devestated if I can't see these :( Sounds like they cancel these even if it is sprinkling :(
No they do not cancel them if it is sprinkling. And I am not sure I follow your goals for the trip. I would think anyone who would be "devastated" by show cancelations due to rain would want to avoid visiting during rainy months. But December to March all have the highest number of rainy days per months (5) - see "Detailed Weather Data for DLR" www.disboards.com/showthread.php?p=23004158

Regardless I hope the weather works out for you and you get to see the shows. If you are there for four days you would have to be extremely unlucky to have all the shows canceled all four days. So I think your chances are still pretty good.

:cool2:

We're from Seattle and were looking forward to get away from the rain. Unfortunately it seems we brought Seattle weather with us and Wed through today (Sun) have been horrible. We've visited three consecutive years now (Oct and Nov) and had 2 of the 3 with rain!!

Seattle weather seems to be more of a constant light drizzle where you can sort of deal with it. I understand that New York City actually gets more precipitation per year than Seattle, but typically spread across fewer days of rain/snow (not that it snows much in Seattle). What we've got in California now is a series of downpours. The street in front of my house was almost flooded this morning.

I can't find a clip of it, but I remember when Jack In the Box had an ad for their special "Northwest sauce". They went to a scene of college aged kids in fleece jackets and hats tossing around a hacky sack in the rain. Then Jack looks at a card with the copy he's supposed to read and realizes it was supposed to be about his new "Southwest sauce", at which point the commercial changes to the Southwest desert and a mariachi band.
