Darling Dolls of America = Disney?

I was watching a show last night about young girls in beauty pageants. They were at this Darling Dolls Pageant. It was kind of freaky to see the pageant name spelled out in Disney type lettering. And then I was even more freaked to hear the Disney theme song being played. Is this beauty pageant endorsed or sponsored or owned by Disney?

I saw that...it was an update to an HBO documentary that was done shortly after Jon Benet Ramsey was murdered, which I saw. Those two girls were the ones that seemed to be winning all the time as young girls, and this was an update on them some 12 or so years later. I honestly was not impressed with the parents of either back then, and not really anything had changed since then that I could tell. The girl still in pageants seemed very arrogant and proud of herself, despite sounding absolutely horrific when she tried to sing. I think that environment is about as unhealthy and unnatural as you can get without breaking a law somewhere.

I grew up doing talent competitions and competitive dance, but it was NOTHING like that. We were all friends, supported each other, and genuinely performed for the love of our talents. We werent trying to win cars at 5 yrs old for our grandparents, etc. We simply performed to share our talents and often used them to help benefit others. The organization I was in did benefit shows to help kids in need of organ transplants, etc. Several of those "kids" i grew up with are now quite famous-Blake Shelton probably being the most noteable of them all. They now have a theatre and show in Branson, MO.

p.s....whoever designed their website did a horrific job...what a cheap, unprofessional site for such a long running organization.

I noticed the Disney font and wondered the same thing!

Does that one girl Asia really think she has a good singing voice?!! She is gorgeous but the girl cannot carry a tune. It's cute when you are 5- when you are 17, not so much!

There is a Disney font out there, I've seen it used by other companies too. I would think Disney would have copywrited it but who knows.

as far as I know, it is NOT Disney related. Matter of fact, I think that one shown on the show was in Dallas. (I watched it too!)

Someone has really done that girl a disservice by not being honest with her--while she is cute as a button, she cannot carry a tune in a bucket. Maybe she loves to sing with the radio but that doen't make her a singer. She needs to find a new talent.

Personally, I was appalled by several of the parents featured on this show. They are spending ooodles of money on the clothing & fees--the entrance fees alone are $900! :scared1: the prize is $1000. What kid needs a car? If Granny needs a car, she needs to buy it herself. Some of those moms have made a fulltime job out of treking around to these sideshows. And to see the parents (who don't look like they are made of money) getting so caught up in the action, pantomiming the actions of the girls, even going into a full-on dance while their girls are on the stage. Please! This is not the mark of a real pageant--the only ones getting rich are the pageant organizers.

There is no way I would put my lovely & talented daughter into one these things. :headache:

I saw it to. :sad2: Those little girls are "plastic barbie" dolls. I don't think they are attractive at all. I do not see how these type of pagents give girls confidence at all. How are they going to learn to "live" without relying on their looks?

Yes, they did use the Disney "font".

I am watching this right now and I am so glad to hear that it isn't affliated with Disney. Phew! I would never put my daughter in one of those pagents. I agree if Granny needs a car...go buy one yourself!

I have it on here too and it's so annoying, I hit the "mute" button.. Most of what I've seen is mom's and grandmom's living vicariously through the kids.. The little girls look so trashy..:sad2:

On that one pagaent show, I liked the girl who wanted a cow. She was cool.

I love doing pageants. I just did a state pageant in the Sunburst system and got 3rd runner up in my division and double crowned in model search and ad sales. I'm doing Darling Dolls of America next year and I'm doing Universal Royalty this November (the same pageant that Karlee the cow girl did). Very excited, I love pageants and you meet some awesome people and have a great weekend filled with fun and memories.

I was wondering the same thing when I saw the Disney font. I would find it hard to believe that Disney has anything to do with it.

Although I'd never put my daughter in a pageant, I enjoy watching them.

i have the day off and really looking through the DIS boards.
i own a pageant system (natural not glitz like on tv) and my daughter
competes in pageants.
she has won a Disney themed crown (mickey ears inside hearts) with satin embroidered sash with Disney font and a trip to Disney world as the pageant was in Daytona and we all took the trip after competition.
many systems use Disney theme for competition as well and many pageant such as Coed and NAMiss have pageants in Hotels very close to the World or Land and all contestants get treated to a day at the park.
Thanksgiving week is when those 2 pageants above have their national pageants at the world or land.
I have never used the Disney themeing for our events as we are a different ballgame but again many do as that is where their national event will take them.

Good luck! :goodvibes:goodvibes

My daughter also does pageants, in fact she's doing Darling Dolls Mini next week, and she does them because she loves doing them. She said last year she wanted to retire (she's 19) but she keeps coming up with more to do. I have never done pageants (don't have the confidence to do them) but she's been on a stage since she was 3 (dance) and is very comfortable. She has learned how to take criticism (judges scores), do interviews (Coed & NAM) and sportsmanship (she always cheers for other girls & tells them that they've done a good job when they have & makes ones who are crying feel better). There is nothing wrong with doing pageants as long as it's something that you want to do & that you're not doing it to please other people like I'm sure some girls are doing.

Now as for the comment on "Painted Babies at 17" she may not be able to sing at all but she has great stage presence. You do have at least one score that gets dropped so you do as many things as possible to try and get the highest score possible. We love that about glitz pageants because you know that if you have a bad performance that it won't count.

Now as for the Disney writing, I've seen it used in multiple pageant systems and also Disney themed crowns (they can't have them made if it's not approved). I think the reason they use that font is because it's a nice playful font, pageants shouldn't be just about competition but also about having fun-most of them have a party for the kids and family to blow off steam.

Pageants aren't any different then other sports except the fact that you can win a lot of money that can be used for college.

I always did beauty pageants from a kid to a teenager then as a young woman in college, and I loved it.
I only stopped when I got engaged and then married several months ago. In fact, the last time I went to Disney World (in '08) was for a National pageant! (Each state queen got free passes to Disney and then we competed in the national there).

All I've got right now is a teenage stepson, so he isn't exactly going to be getting into pageants LOL, but if I ever have a little girl I think it would be fun to put her in pageants ( but ONLY if she enjoys them!).

While I never competed in DDA, many other pageants give away Disney themed prizes, and TONS of National pageants are held at Disneyland or Disney world.
So the font used on the logos and stuff didn't seem odd to me, because a lot of stuff in pageants has to do with Disney, even though they're not actually connected in any way.

As for pageants teaching you that only your looks matter? Well, my looks do matter to me. But....to be honest, I think that's the type of people who generally get into pageants anyway...the type of people who think looks, status in life, etc. is the most important thing. I'm not saying I'm like that, but yeah I do care if I look good. And I don't think that is a bad thing, AS LONG AS I care MORE about other things like family, helping people, etc.
