Stupid question, but when does it get dark in springtime in CA? We are there the first week of May. I think CA is Pacific time, correct (one hour later than us on Mountain time). So will it be safe to assume that, if we stay at the park till around 8 each night (with the exception of weekends, since we want to catch F! and the fireworks...), most of our touring will be in daylight?

thx - one would think I am simply trying to up my post numbers or something with all these ridiculous questions!:cool1:

It will probably just start getting dark around that time. I'd call it more dusk. It won't be totally dark until 9. Gotta love daylight savings. I love it!

The biggie for you to be aware of is how lucky we are, being "up" so high, in terms of late-night lightness. I had gotten so used to living in WA and having it so light so late that when I went to CA during the summer last year I was stunned at how dark it got, so early.

Have you ever seen the Farmer's Almanac? It's so inexpensive (sold at grocery checkouts at many of the stores around here) and it was absolutely invaluable when I was planning my wedding timing. :) Gives you sunrise and sunset.

Looks like online you have to wait until that month comes to get the info (though there's probably some sort of paid subscription), or find and buy the book somewhere, but it could very well be worth it!!!

Thanks Molly - never thought about the Almanac - FIL probably has one - I will give him a call....thx!

You're welcome! It's probably one of the best suggestions I got out of almost 2 years of wedding-planning.:goodvibes

I agree about the daylight thing.......lived in so cal for decades, and days last way longer in Boise (not pure dark until 11:00 in the summer) of course that is because we are at the far west edge of Mountain time, and 3000 ft)

When we go the park closes at 8pm, so we don't have much time after the sun has set. But night is always my favorite time.......the park is lit so beautifully.....

I would say that in May it is going to be fully dark by 8:30ish. I've lived in Champaign IL, Houston TX, Raleigh NC, and Central NJ, and it gets darker earlier in SoCal than any of those places!

The longest day of the year is June 21st and it stayes light until about 8:30ish. So 6 weeks before that, early May, probably sunset around 8.

there ya go

And around the equator sunset would be about 6pm every day of the year - no long days or short days.

That's not quite true. At the equator, while the day length is the same, the sunrise and sunset times will vary by 31 minutes over the course of the year.
