Big up to all you disney lovers out there.

I jetted back yesterday on VS016 with my DD, DM, DS, DGF and DG. I'm just writing to warn all of you about the "Dinosaur" ride at AK. We were really looking forward to this ride Qing for over an hour and saw a lot of young children going on it talking about how good it was - this led us to believe it was safe. HOW RONG WE WERE!!! My DG was shaken so badly that it left her with a headache for days after the ride leaving her bedriden  . Due to this we had to leave AK early not even having time to ride the new everast ride. I have much admiration for the set up at disney and all the people that work there but feel this ride falls way short of there standards! This ruined our holiday and i can't see myself going back to AK ever again!!! If your going to AK think twice before going on the dinosaur!

Peace out :hippie:

Whilst DH and I loved this ride...the kids hated it and the youngest who was 7 at that time was screaming in fright....I felt really guilty.
I would recommend anyone not to try and force (encourage) a child onto this as we did..only take them if they seem really up for it.
Some rides a child may need encouragement and they will love but this I feel may be too much. It was very difficult for us after that to try and encourage him on others and I have to say he is usually quite a brave boy for roller coasters etc.
Whilst we went on it the next year....he didn't. When I asked I saw the fright immediately in his face and this year we simply said no problem and he got a icecream and waited with one of us outside.
Encouragement is usually a positive thing but this ride is very very intense so please don't push any child who seems apprehensive...wait for them to say yes.

I'm sorry you feel this way and that your DG had this reaction. I have ridden this ride quite a few times and although I agree it is rough I really like the ride. They have the exact same track at Disneyland for the Indiana Jones ride and I plan to ride that a few times when we go there. Because of the roughness of the ride perhaps it isn't suitable for small children, but the ride is certainly safe and I think the theaming in it is excellent. To me personally the ride is up to Disney standards. Sorry it ruined your day.

I really enjoyed dinosaur, I did it two trips ago for the first time and had asked here first what it was like, GILLD warned me it was very rough so I was well prepared, thats whats so great about this site, somebody, somewhere knows! my son did it last year for the first time too and because he was forewarned he really liked it

We rode this last year and thought it was OK , DD9 loved it and went on quite a few times .

Another Dinasaur fan here :)

Although DW never opens her eyes all the way round LOL

It is a bit rough and does throw you about quite a bit. There are also flashing lights and very load sounds. (Although I believe it has been toned down since it was built!).

It's always important to make sure you know what is involved in a ride before you go on, especially if you have any medical problems or fears/phobias etc. Either read guides, ask on here or ask a CM on the ride to ensure that the ride is suitable.

I'm sorry that the ride ruined your day in AK :( Please don't write off AK due to this one bad experience. There are plenty of other rides, shows and attractions at AK that I'm sure you would really enjoy.

I have to say that I agree with the others - yes, Dinosaur! is a rough ride and my girls didn't really like it but forewarned is forearmed. We were prepared for it to be rough and therefore that did not detract from our enjoyment. I think the whole point here is that the ride is supposed to be rough - it fits in with the whole story of what you are doing and where you are.

What a shame that one ride ruined your whole day at AK - and what a shame that you have allowed it to put you off the park in it's entirety. There is so much more to AK than just the Dinosaur! ride.

By the way, what is a DG?

ETA: No way would I wait in line for over an hour to ride Dinosaur! Or any other ride for that matter.

This ride is certainly not for everyone. I agree it is supposed to be rough to go along with the theme and story. My DS7 didn't want to do it - too scary but DD11 loved it - she is an adrenaline junkie though :rotfl: Personally it is not one of my favourite rides - it's OK.

Hi

I also love the dinosaur ride. I wasnt impressed with it the first we rode it in 98. That was mainly because we had a annoying rider behind us. Also my dh hit his mouth on the ride. Cut his lip open. It was dh fault he was leaning forward, due to the rider behind him screaming. It was a false scream and if any glass was in our car it certainly would of broke.

We went again in 05 and absoloutly loved it. My dd broke down into tears. It was too loud and she didnt like the dinosaurs. I would certainly ride this again. Loved it.

I am sorry it ruined your day, but dont let it ruin the park. AK has so much to offer.

We loved the ride and would go on again but my son aged 11 years hated it and my daughter 8 loved it. I think its another of those rides where it depends on the children. Mission space also isn't for everyone but my children loved it. My advice is read the warning signs outside the ride, i am one who is guilty of this and never reads it but they do give advice on who its not suitable. A ride that did scare us and my kids was the tower of terror but other kids younger than my too loved it.

I love this ride! Yes it is bumpy but thats half the fun!

The jerky movements, the fact that it's pitch black at times, and the loud noises certainly all combine to make it a pretty intense experience.

I'm sorry that it had such an impact on your trip, but I agree with the others that it shouldn't put you off what is often an underrated park.

What about some of the highlights of your trip? Do share those too. :goodvibes

Whilst I am a big fan of this ride I think it is scary and would be ba bit intense for people who weren't expecting it, this is why it's important to read the safety boards on the way into the rides, they give you a lot of information about the ride which you can base your decision whether or not to ride on.
I wouldn't let one bad experience with one ride stop you from going back to AK it's one of the best parks for non riders IMO.

Hi
I agree about dinosaur - it is a rough ride, we all like it apart from DD. The first time she rode it was at the age of 13, and still won't go on it now! But saying that, she doesn't like Tough to be a Bug either!
:scared1:
Talking of rough rides at Disney, last summer, my DM (late sixties), came on Kali River Rapids at AK and ended up in bed for days, with bruised ribs! She was sat in a seat on her own, and must have slid across bashing her side! It was a real shame as she missed out on several games of golf too!
So, I guess there are quite a few rides, which can be tough!
:sad2:

Another Dinosaur fan here. Again i think its down to the individual child, some like it some hate it. Its a shame that you feel you have to post and be so negative about AK. I dont like Big thunder mountain railroad(im a wimp), but certainly wouldnt put me off going to MK.

horses for courses so they say :headache:

Im not a ken fan of dinosaur but my DD4 and DH went on it 6 times when we went in november. Once was enough for me.;)

Although DW never opens her eyes all the way round LOL

That's just like me! I was terrified - I hate things jumping out at me. At least I get more time in the gift shops while the family ride it.

My ddi (9 yrs) loves the ride but she has her eyes closed all the time (!) having been scared big time in the first time last year.
