Dang Gas Prices

A silly question.

According to MapQuest it is 845 miles from Pineville, LA to WDW. Making the assumption that you are driving, and will get at least 25 miles per gallon on highway driving, this means you will use 33.8 gallons of gas each way or 67.6 gallons for the round trip.

If gas goes up by $2.00 per gallon, it would add about $135 to the cost of your trip.

Let's say you are staying a week. Four adult and one child seven day base tickets comes to $1,291 including tax. For a moderate hotel you would be paying about $1,400 for the week. You will already be paying $203 for gas. At only $200 a day for food for a family of five, including a travel day each way, comes to another $1,800. Plus souveniers and whatever. you are looking at $3,700 at a minimum.

So because your cost for a one week vacation for five people may go up by less than 6% you feel it is necessary to cancel?

Note this is not intended as an attack on your plans, but just wanting to point out that everything has not been considered.
As I'm sure you're aware and temporarily forgot, not everyone who goes to Disney has to buy tickets every time they are there. Nor does everyone pay Disney prices for hotel rooms.

It is possible that the biggest chunk of some people's vacation is the cost of traveling to WDW. The few hundred that used to get them a short vacation won't now, due to the rise in gas prices.

Very possible.

Also, there's the having to pay for that gas all the time. What used to be $50/week is now $100. For some people, that extra $200/month has to come from from somewhere.

When economies start tanking, travel is about the first thing people give up. The gas money gets taken from the Disney fund - bing, bang, boom.

Not trying to argue with you, just pointing out that the gas prices certainly can - for some people - have an impact on vacations.

Gasoline prices continue to climb every week. This will impact vacations this summer for many.

We're still on for our drive in a month - our rented points at BLT are booked and paid for, and we're going! We had planned to drive all along - had a great experience driving last year, and I'm loathe to buy four plane tickets (much more than gas money) and deal with security, etc.

That said...I've had to increase our monthly gas budget by about 30%. That's a permanent change (unless I can get a telework arrangement approved - working on that! :thumbsup2), and I'm not sure that's going to be enough. That kind of shift definitely impacts our plans, whether they're day-to-day or longer-term. So we're doing what we can in the meantime to keep our Disney dreams alive!
