Dang Gas Prices

Do you know when, or if, drilling will begin offshore in the Gulf of Mexico?

Ha ha, a company who is partnered with BP was just given a new deep water drilling permit. Drilling in the Gulf is alive and well.

And if you think allowing drilling in Alaska and other ecologically sensitive areas is the way to go, then you have a rather myopic view of the world.

Only one Deep water gulf permit has been issued since the spill, and it was only to complete a well that had already been drilled. Obama hates the oil companies. Drilling will hopefully for sure resume in January 2013.

Call me a cynic, but I don't think the political uprisings in the Middle East have anything to do with the prices. Let's face it, it is just an excuse to raise the prices. I have heard that Libya only provides about 10% of our oil and is there really a shortage??!

I was barely alive in the 70's but this "shortage" crap was pushed back then too. So let's see ... if there was a shortage in the 70's, why are we not tapped out by now with the HUGE increase in vehicles and gas usage?
It's all a bunch of hooey (sp?)! And we just keep paying it because we all have gas burning vehicles.

So until there are other viable fuel options, we just have to do our best to lower the demand (car pool, public transport, etc.). Sadly, I am no different than the masses because I don't do any of those gas saving measures. I may be a cynic and a hypocrite, but I will never be a liar. ;)

Well, I hope you enjoy your $5.00 gasoline and your $900 ticket to WDW. I believe your talking about the Anadarko permit. It was a permit to compete a well that was already drilled. Deep water drilling is NOT alive and well. And as for ecologically sensitive areas, Anwar(sp), Alaska is nothing but a baron ice field.

There are many other areas that are closed to Exploration in the US. West coast Florida, Green River Basin Origon, Many parts of California, including off shore, the majority of off shore US period.

A silly question.

According to MapQuest it is 845 miles from Pineville, LA to WDW. Making the assumption that you are driving, and will get at least 25 miles per gallon on highway driving, this means you will use 33.8 gallons of gas each way or 67.6 gallons for the round trip.

If gas goes up by $2.00 per gallon, it would add about $135 to the cost of your trip.

Let's say you are staying a week. Four adult and one child seven day base tickets comes to $1,291 including tax. For a moderate hotel you would be paying about $1,400 for the week. You will already be paying $203 for gas. At only $200 a day for food for a family of five, including a travel day each way, comes to another $1,800. Plus souveniers and whatever. you are looking at $3,700 at a minimum.

So because your cost for a one week vacation for five people may go up by less than 6% you feel it is necessary to cancel?

Note this is not intended as an attack on your plans, but just wanting to point out that everything has not been considered.

This is exactly the reason we are still going (37 days). We are driving from MA so it will be a bit more gas than LA. We SO need this vacation and did the math and agreed that it wasn't enough to keep us from going.:)

Pineville? Is that leaving from the State mental institution? (just kidding) Pineville is a little closer than we are. We'd need to add an additional 100 miles - 200 both ways.

Hi Friends,

I just wanted to remind everyone that discussions related to politics are not considered appropriate under DIS Board Posting Guidelines. Please limit your discussions to how gas prices are affecting your future Disney trips or I will be forced to close this thread.

Now...

Gas by me is up to $3.69!

I'm pulling my travel trailer from wherever my job assignment has me in October down to Fort Wilderness! I get about 10 miles to the gallon!!!! We will just limit our spending, and save extra funds for fuel. That is usually around 6 tanks at 80-100 a tank by then !!!! :-(~
pirate:

I get 15 miles per gallon. We live 30 miles from Alexandria,LA. We travel to Alexandria for work also. We just have alot of added expense due to gas prices. ALSO , our fine electric compnay CLECO, now raised its rates. Our electric bill was close to $500 this month, and we had both AC units turned off. Reason , due to high cost of fuel.
I WISH I could go 845 miles and use 33.8 gallons of gas. I fill up 3 times one way.

Our gas came down to 3.31 today. It was hovering around 3.59ish.

I paid $80 for a fill up. How much are you paying?

We are creeping up there. Gas by us rose for the second time this week. This time last week is was $3.59 today it was $3.72. It was staying the same for a week or so than it went up again. ugh. Thank goodness DH works from home.

I would of canceled our next trip it was not for the fact I have promised my 2DS Star Wars Weekend! So we are going and what we pay in gas will just cut into our souvinear money and food.

We plan on taking lunch to the park (we have never done this)
We doing on character meal (verses a few a visit)
Taking water to the parks
Limiting on vinylmations ;) ok that is for me.
Budgeting money for souvinears.

Paying way to much money for gas!

$3.71 gallon for gas.

$40 to fill my car. I get just over 30 mpg.

It's because of Moammar Gadhafi and the krud he's pulling in Lybia-an oil rich country. I live in the San Francisco Bay area and gas at the cheapest place is $3.81 for regular unleaded :sad:!!! I've been unemployed for over a year now, and my unemployment benefits have been reduced by nearly $200 a month, and now gas is going SKY HIGH! If electric cars and hybrids weren't so freggin expensive, and I was working, I'd buy one. My Disneyland vacation and Disney World vacations have been postponed until further notice.

And now, back to Jerry Springer:rotfl2:

I am in your area as well, and today it was $4.15 per gallon:eek::eek: No more driving to school for me, I have to take public transportation.

I filled up last night night, $130.
Hate when I let tank get that low. I usually don't let it go under half tank.
that way it does not seem as bad when I fill back up.

I filled up last weekend and it cost $40. I was nearly on "E." Thank goodness I moved less than five minutes away from work. I'd be done for otherwise.
