Dang Gas Prices. We are not go to Disney this May. We have decided due to price of gas , and everyone talking about up coming events, that prices will even go HIGHER, we are not going. Im afraid gas prices may reach $5 a galloon by then. SOOO we are not booking. I dont understand why the price of oil is going up so high. Man O Man. Now our economy is really going to suffer.:confused3
Anyone else talking about not going due to prices?

We were just saying thank goodness we went a couple of weeks ago. Gas by us is $3.79 and going up. I hear it's worse in CA. Now I know refineries are part of the issue, but come on, after what went on in the Gulf, you can't tell me there's a shortage of oil!

It's because of Moammar Gadhafi and the krud he's pulling in Lybia-an oil rich country. I live in the San Francisco Bay area and gas at the cheapest place is $3.81 for regular unleaded :sad:!!! I've been unemployed for over a year now, and my unemployment benefits have been reduced by nearly $200 a month, and now gas is going SKY HIGH! If electric cars and hybrids weren't so freggin expensive, and I was working, I'd buy one. My Disneyland vacation and Disney World vacations have been postponed until further notice.

And now, back to Jerry Springer:rotfl2:

Even with gas prices rising in Florida while we were there last week going from 3.05 to 3.45 it was still cheeper than it was here in Ontario.

For a gallon of gas here today it would cost you $4.88, two weeks ago it was about $4 a galon.

Oh boy, do I dare pipe in?

I'm a member of the news media giving my two cents...

Oil is bought and sold based on a couple of factors, supply and demand. The U.S. Is the third largest oil consumer in the world behind China and India. Our biggest oil suppliers are Canada, Mexico and Venezula.

The turmoil in the Middle East is raising conerns over speculation hence driving up the price. Libya is the 6th largest oil producer and their "lack" of recent output has nothing to do with prices or supply, just headlines. They don't contribute enough to the world's oil buffet to be a serious player.

Worldwide 84 million barrels of oil are used each day.

In my opinion blame greed, price gouging and who can forget Wall Street and OPEC.

FYI, oil would have to hit $143 a barrel to see $4 at the pump. Oil's high was in September 2008 after Katrina and a string of hurricanes.

The smart money would be if the Obama administration released the strategic oil reserves with a payback program. But, that's only been done twice in history.

Oh really? I actually hate watching news, but when I do catch a story about the oil prices, at lease here in the SFBA, they always tie it to Libya. News is way to depressing. Going to the gas station, or by it, daily, gives me a little surprise :scared1: to start my day:rotfl2:

The cost to fill up my VW Jetta yesterday was almost $50! I used to pay $35-40 each time I filled up since August when I got the car. CRAZY!

You think it's high now, there's a good chance it'll it will soar in the near future. Yes, Libya is one reason, but most observers are watching what is going on in Saudi Arabia with a weary eye. Good chance you'll see demonstrations beginning there soon, and that'll be when the prices go crazy.

Saw an MSNBC report today that within ten days they are going to release American oil reserves to stabilize fuel prices. The government is concerned that the current instability in oil prices will stagnate the economy just when it's starting to come back.

I pray something happens. These prices will kill America.

A silly question.

According to MapQuest it is 845 miles from Pineville, LA to WDW. Making the assumption that you are driving, and will get at least 25 miles per gallon on highway driving, this means you will use 33.8 gallons of gas each way or 67.6 gallons for the round trip.

If gas goes up by $2.00 per gallon, it would add about $135 to the cost of your trip.

Let's say you are staying a week. Four adult and one child seven day base tickets comes to $1,291 including tax. For a moderate hotel you would be paying about $1,400 for the week. You will already be paying $203 for gas. At only $200 a day for food for a family of five, including a travel day each way, comes to another $1,800. Plus souveniers and whatever. you are looking at $3,700 at a minimum.

So because your cost for a one week vacation for five people may go up by less than 6% you feel it is necessary to cancel?

Note this is not intended as an attack on your plans, but just wanting to point out that everything has not been considered.

Well Cheshire Figment, you convinced me to still come in August!! Not like I need any arm twisting or anything.

Hey, I'm sure we could save them $200 during the time they are at WDW to help pay for gas.

#1 thing they could do to save a ton of money is eat off-site, especially since they have a car. One easy an cheap meal is to get pizza from the Hess gas station right across from Downtown Disney. I believe a large 1 topping is only $8, plus a liter of soda, and they could feed their family of 4 or 5 for $10. Compare that to a quick service restaurant where they would probably shake out around $40 and that's a $30 savings.

In place of buying souvenirs, save that money and then when you get back go to the Disney Shopping website and let the kids and adults pick stuff from the clearence side of the site. That would probably save $50.

We are now up to $80 in savings, they are almost half way there.

You guys think its bad in the states? We are already paying almost $5 a gallon for gas in Canada, I don't even want to imagine what its going to go up to by the summer. It cost me $60 to fill my 2010 Ford Focus yesterday, which is $20 per tank more than I used to average.

We fly to WDW (and will be in August), so it's a little besides the point, but doesn't this oil crisis remind anyone (yet again) that we need better public transportation systems? Didn't Florida just nix the high speed train system that was going to be built?

.

For me, it's not only the gas for the trip there and back, it's the high cost of gas between now and the trip (and afterwards).

For example, I drive 60 miles one way to work. DH drives 115 miles to work ONE way. Just driving to work is costly us nearly double vs before. This added expense makes us have to say no to vacations.

So it's just not the added gas expense for vacation....I could manage an extra $200. Just not every week from now until June.

No, it doesn't change it for me.

Many people really don't have a whole lot of room to complain. Lower gasoline prices can be accomplished in the voting booth. If every place in the US was open for exploration - Alaska, Deep water Gulf (permits are still being withheld), gasoline prices would be lower. Airline tickets would be lower. The US would be in a much better financial position right now. As it is, oh well.

Getting away from fossil fuels needs to be the goal, oil is not the long term answer. A balanced energy plan is.

The highlight of my morning was when Good Morning America said that the highest gas in the country was in Orlando, Florida, right by the airport (over $5/gallon). They can nail the people returning their rental cars.

My second favorite part was when they said the state of California is the highest overall. Of course it is. Leaving the highest state for the most expensive gas station. Figures.

I have been trying to trick myself by filling up when I still have a quarter of a tank instead of waiting for the car to get to empty. Like that's going to work for very long!

Do you know when, or if, drilling will begin offshore in the Gulf of Mexico?
