My son and his wife are going to Disneyland next Sun/Mon/Tues - returning home on Wed. They just found out that they close at 6 PM on Mon & Tues for Cast Member Parties. They very often go the second week in Dec (for son's birthday), and he says the CM parties are usually the first week in Dec.

I guess it's not the end of the world, they'll plan around it. It just puts everyone into California Adventure on Mon & Tues evening, instead of spreading the crowd between the two Parks.

The good news - 6pm fireworks.

It was that week last year too. The good news is that DL opens early those days so with PHs they'll have 13 hours in the parks each day.

I actually prefer early closings. You'll still get the fireworks and won't have to waste valuable park time with dinner and shopping. Have a magical trip. :goodvibes You'll feel well rested and will be able to enjoy the empty mornings.

Looks like they are still opening DL at 8am those mornings - same as when they close at midnight later in the week... where does it say they open early? That would be nice! :cool1:

I was comparing to the week before where they open at 9. I didn't think 8-12 hours started until the following week.

That's what I'm thinking!! DBF and I have only ever gone when DL is open from 8-12 so I'm excited to see how this will work for us. I'd love to be able to go back to the hotel after dinner and WOC and just hang out and watch tv :happytv: And I'd love to be able to go to bed before 1 am :goodvibes I need my sleep!!

But my question is whether the crowds will be heavier on Monday and Tuesday?? My guess is maybe not because since the park closes at 6pm, those after-work APs shouldn't be coming. I'm not sure though!! :confused3

This is a rare chance during the Christmas season, enjoy it. Generally when Disneyland closes early, there will be a lot more characters out and about, so take advantage of it. Also, after the last parade, there are usually several characters on Main Street that will play games with the guests. I have seen them do everything from Duck, Duck, Goose to Hide and Seek, as well as some games that they make up.

This happens a lot during the off season, not so much during Christmas.

BTW, I believe this is when they are having the cast member christmas parties (I do not work there, so I am not positive), in case anyone is wondering why this is happening.

As for crowds, DL will be fairly light, with DCA picking up a lot. WOC will most likely "sell out" early (by noon or so), unless the add additional show(s).

We were there on the Mon and Tues after Thanksgiving when it closed at 8 and the parks were empty. We really enjoyed the reduced hours. Kids could watch the WoC from our balcony at the GCV, then we'd take them in the hot tub, settle them in the room, and then we'd head down the the Hearthstone Lounge for a drink. And still be asleep by 10:30 pm. :cloud9:

Sounds like heaven :cloud9:

Its supposed to rain Mon. thru Wed., so I don't think there will be fireworks.

I would only worry a little. Rain doesn't cancel the fireworks. Wind can.

It looks to be stormy at first and then calmer later.

We were there Monday after Thanksgiving, and I would hardly call it empty. It was quite busy, much more so than I expected. I would put it at at least a 6, more like a very busy summer day. :santa:
