This is my 1st season watching. What exactly is the free style dance?

Ian was the right one to go home tonight. I can't wait until next week! I love the free style dance . As much as I like Laila, I think that the two men are going out dance her next week. Apolo is so athletic and Joey is such a showman I think Laila will just be left in the dust .

Free style = NO RULES! Anything goes. IIRC [SIZE=-1]Drew Lachey & Cheryl Burke's "Save a Horse, Ride a Cowboy" that they performed this year was their freestyle dance.[/SIZE]

Yes, they all get to do whatever they want. Lifts, flips, raunch, no holds barred!!

I like Ian, but I knew it was his time. I hope Laila is next.
Joey and Apollo are both great, I would be happy with either winning

Do you think Laila's club-footed kicks are a result of her bad knees? I watched the show before the results with my kids and you were all right about her squared off kicks. Is it that hard to point your toes, especially when you've been practicing your dancing for so many weeks?

I think Laila has been left in the dust in the last several shows, but the judges seem to love her. Honestly, I think her dances are so ho-hum. Apolo is my favorite!!

Why? I think Laila is awesome and it would be nice to have a woman win.

A woman has won - Kelly Monaco in season 1. She wasn't a very good dancer, either.

Laila is simply not as skilled as the other finalists, and I wouldn't want her to win just because she's female if she's not the best. Her upper body is consistently weak, she has no frame to speak of in the standard dances, and she never knows what to do with her arms. She is also extremely slow. That was the least quick quickstep I have ever seen.

Same here.

I really liked Ian and thought that the criticism he took was overly critical just because Cheryl was his partner. I also don't understand why people seem to not want her to win again. If she and her partner are the best, they ought to win. In this case, Ian wasn't, but I think he was better than he got credit for (which is why I think he made it to the semi-finals).

Laila is good, but I don't think she's as good as Joey and Apollo.

I go back and forth between Joey and Apollo. They are both equally great but in different ways. When Apollo dances, I think that he has to win. Then when Joey dances, I think maybe it should be Joey.

Thank goodness we taped it - I don't care for him so we fastforwarded through his parts. I thought the Jimmy Kimmel bit was better than last week. The accountant bit got a big laugh from me and the kids. Can you guess what DH does?

WOOOOOOOO for JOEY! I figured they would 'save' him first if he made it through. I am glad I was right! I think the final two should be Apolo and Joey. That would clearly be the best match.

Not sure about the pointing toes and bad knees question. I know Joey blew out his knee way back when - he had a body double for the Dirty Pop video (yep - an NSync fan ) and he doesn't have problems pointing his toes.

AND Thursday, May 24, So You Think You Can Dance will be starting! WOOOO!!! I love that show!!

Just jumping in here.... who else felt like a dirty ole woman after watching Apollo this week!!! That dance was sooo hot!!!!! They are the cutest couple!!!

Okay--please clarify this for me..

Is the show ending next week? Essentially, are they picking out the winner from three? I can see this happening as they wouldn't want to do the show on Memorial Day and such. I thought I heard Tom Bergeron say something like "the finale next week."

According to tvguide.com, Tuesday show says... the winner of season 4 is selected so this is the last week. In previous seasons, I thought the winner was selected from just two dancers (I am pretty sure it was just Mario and Emmitt last year) so it will be interesting to see how they handle additional dances. I thought they said all of the dancers will be doing 3 dances next week!

Monday's show will be 61 minutes. That will be one jammed packed and fast paced show to fit in the 9 dances plus commentary.

Tuesday's show will be 121 minutes. (what's with the extra minute??) For those who thought this past Tuesday dragged, I am sorry. It looks like this one will really be a stretch, even with the entire cast returning!

I can't wait for Monday! Let the dancing begin!!

This is true.... Joey hurt his knee back during the rehersal for the Dirty Pop tour... they had little things( not sure what to call them) that shot them out of the floor and his went a little bonkers! thats how he hurt himself... and they used Wayne ( the cherographer) as his body double!

I remember that! It was several inches deep. I remember it got jammed I believe. Grr where are the old tapes when ya need them.

I think they start the finale with 3 and then pretty quickly cut them down to 2, so there are only 2 standing at the end.

Season 2 had a 3 team finale as well. All three couples will dance a freestyle, a judge's choice dance, and a favorite dance of their own (not sure if the dances are new choreography or not - obviously the freestyle will be, but usually they let them do at least one dance they have already done).

The results show for Season 2 had one elimination halfway through (Stacy Kiebler) and then announced the winner in the last few minutes. (Drew Lachey)

On the results show yesterday, Tom Bergeron said the couples would have "one last chance to impress the judges" on Tuesday, so maybe they are doing two dances Monday and one dance Tuesday.
