I recently took a leap of faith and gave some Disney advice to someone who I have never gotten along with in my life (we are cordial in public, but often butt heads). However, the greater good prevailed and I knew I wouldn't be able to live with myself knowing she was taking her family to Disney for one day, spending the money during Easter week, and getting bit in the financial butt. They spent open to close at MK yesterday and I just got a four page letter reviewing their amazing day and saying thanks many times. My tips saved their day! She had 30 bulleted points of things they got done, including cashing in BTMR FP for the Town Square Princesses when BTMR was closed down due to rain/lightning. MK was a 9.5 out of 10 (projected) on Wednesday. Happy chills!

FRIDAY

We have had 3 days of wind chills in the 20's. Brrrrr Looking forward to it warming up again. I am happy to report there is not much snow left in my yard. Also looking forward to some color. Everything is so brown and drab. Leaves and green grass will be a welcome sight.

Ditto..... my yard is a disaster..... ever since we got the two puppies with all of their energy... they have been ripping up the yard.. running paths... with are turned into mud.. and they have been digging holes and ripping up plants... and tearing down the bamboo my DH planted near the pool.. they ripped down the fence her put up around the pool to keep them from running on the cover... it's a big HUGE mess... We haven't had time to get out there and clean it up yet, plus it's been too cold wet and raining... I don't know where to start.

I was supposed to have my son's communion party in May.. but I think I am going to have it at a restaurant, It's just not going to be ready in time. Who thought having two puppies was a good idea?? not me... don't get me wrong.. I love the dogs.. each individually.. by themselves.. but when you put them together... it's a circus..

My DD said the suite was amazing.... they had lots of food / beverages, and a tv in there with nice seats too....

I need some prayers for my sis.... after she took my niece and DD to the concert last week she started having pains... (she had surgery abotu a month ago, and was on the mend)... unfortunately she had a set back and was rushed to the hosp. on Monday for emergency surgery, and was put on a respirator. she's been heavily sedated since then so we don't really know what lead up to it, other than she was'nt feeling good on Sat and Sun.

In any event... today they were able to remove the respirator.. (so I guess that's progress)... she's still in ICU and sedated, but breathing on her own. Say a little prayer for a full recovery, she has a 10 year old who is depending on her.

I've got a first communion in May as well. Lucky for us, we don't have a big issue with our yard. My big thing right now is ants. Coming in my house. Driving me INSANE. And the people we bought the house from did tell us they treat for them every year around this time. We do it ourselves with stuff from Home Depot that works great, and MJS should get that squared away tonight.

There wasn't any evident wood rot in our home inspection, but I worry. Our house is cedar shakes (wood shingles) and a woodpecker has attacked them and made holes. They do that because of insects behind the shakes, and moisture that attracts them, not because of the actual wood.

MJS keeps insisting we should rip off the shakes and do vinyl siding...blah. Not my thing on our style of house. It looks so cookie cutter and bland. But I am worried our house is not sealed enough if that makes sense. Never mind that in the next five years we'll probably have to do the roof.

Should probably add here that the original homeowners (keep in mind they bought their house in the 70s) NEVER painted it. NEVER. Quite frankly, we're lucky it looks as good as it it does. But, never minding that, they didn't take care of anything. That's what makes me nervous. If we don't rip off the shakes, what's hiding underneath?

Did I ever mention we bought a fixer upper? Ah, the joys of home ownership.

yeah.... I agree they do alot of damage... hopefully we'll get some sontrol over it this summer.. we have some plans. Part of it is, the way the house is situated, and a part of the yard doesn't get much sun , so it's always a wet spot.. which turns to mud.. we were thinking of doing a patio block... hopefully..

But.. on the other hand.. I've had cats in the past.. and they're no angels either... but I would get another one.. but not until the dogs are gone...

Because the color can't be changed without completely replacing the siding. Is there a more or less inconspicuous place you could remove a few shingles just for a look-see? Might be wise, considering.

Our garden is completely overgrown and it will take a month of Sundays to get it back into some semblance of order. So, I completely understand and sympathise with all of us here with 'yard' duties and the joys of home ownership.

Just from a "been there done that" perspective, vinyl siding *can*, potentially, negatively affect the resale value of your house. Because the color can't be changed without completely replacing the siding. Is there a more or less inconspicuous place you could remove a few shingles just for a look-see? Totally understand that point of view. Unfortunately, my neighborhood is a mix of the two, leaning more heavily toward vinyl siding. It is more rare that people leave on the shakes in this area.

Which sucks because I think they're beautiful, and then I can change the color of my house as I wish. I should take a picture for you guys and post it so you can see what I mean.

Right now, we're pruning back the plants - did the hydrangea last weekend and need to get into the lavender bushes. I have a few fruit trees in my garden, mostly citrus - lemon, line, cumquot, grapefruit and orange. They are completely infested with gall wasp; so I need to take a good look at them and see what we can salvage.

We've got a few peach trees going that were cuttings from my FIL's, and my MIL purchased fig trees for us last year. We'll get those in the ground soon and then figure out how we want to handle them for the winter. Not sure if you know, but fig trees are a real pain where I live. You either have to cover them unbelievably well for winter, or cut a notch in the base of the trunk and bury them. That's how sensitive they are. Crazy. But we love figs, so we must have fig trees. Thank goodness my husband takes care of that stuff.

I'm just looking to plant a basic garden this year. Start with some zucchini, snap peas, easy things. My harder goal is to have a small pumpkin patch. I LOVE Halloween, October, fall, pumpkins, etc.

Funny how close you are but still so different in climate!....we can't safely plant outdoors here until about mid-May. Risk of frost up to that point!! (well, I guess you can plant late April, but you have to be prepared to cover everything at night).
