Dancing around the world~One pole at a time~~~Return of the prodigal trip reporter...

I just got caught up, so glad you had the chapter links posted! It looks like a great time so far! Raglan Road sounded yummy..we really enjoyed the time we spent at DTD, so much so we stopped there twice! I totally get the running conversation in your head, I do the same thing! I have to admit I was shocked when I saw the rates listed on one of the cabs..we don't even have cab service in our town though! I'm with the pp who talked about the set rates. Sounds like Jordan handled it well though! :goodvibes: And ermm..you can scratch me off your taxi sharing list too..LOL!
i don't understand why no one wants to share a cab with me?

Wow you do have bad luck with taxis, I cringe whenever we go in one I just hate watching the meter  Good for Jordan only giving him $20 though :thumbsup2
I'm glad I don't have to rely on them

Oh dear lord! Why doesn't Disney create their own Taxi service...then the drivers will know exactly where they're going. >_<

.

that's a great idea! We should start a campaign!

I can handle them all except for the extremist drivers. The one's who feel compelled to go off about their political or religious views in very loud voices at me (when I'm just trying to get from point a to point b). Those ones scare me.
yikes! that could make for an uncomfortable ride! I always seem to get the driver who talks on his phone the entire ride.

Mmm Was I in on the other trip???:confused3 I actually have had good luck with cabs at Disney but then I don't usually travel with Cherie !!!!!:scared1::rotfl2::rotfl2:
hey!
;)

Don't get me in a cab with you - we would all end up in Miami!!!:rotfl2::rotfl2:

I had a bus driver once get lost :scared1: I was the only one on the bus and I think i may have been going from CSR to DHS and we ended up somewhere near All stars????

I know I looked up and thought " He does know where he is going right?" and then he started making a u turn. I mean he does have a GPS right??? I thought I might need to help him. :rotfl: How bad would it been if I had to intervene???
that's funny and scary at the same time! I never pay attention to what way we're going in the buses so I wouldn't have a clue.

Oh my - that prior taxi story was entertaining! Though certainly not fun for you - you did a great job of telling it! I'm glad Jordan only paid the guy $20 - what a jerk that driver was!
it wasn't fun at the time, but I laugh about it now.

Oh my goodness, the stream of consiouness parts were SO FUNNY! Yay for Jordan taking charge with the $20
thank you...my mind can be a scary place.:rotfl2:

If you see Josh Powell, punch him in the face for me!
who is Josh Powell?

Good grief! Was it this guy's first time on Disney property? I'm glad Jordan didn't pay him the whole fare!
maybe we should have told him we were going to AK, then we would have ended up at the poly first.

Great update Winkers! You really do have bad luck with taxis! :lmao: That's okay though. Mine isn't much better.
I'm thinking we need to have a group taxi ride .....wonder where we'd end up.

You really don't have a very good track record with cabs, do you? Doing a trip report helps you get through these moments though, because you know it'll make a great chapter!

no, I don't! I realy can't imagine having to rely on them all the time

I'll share a cab with you anytime.

I'll just be in charge.

:rotfl:

I had a taxi get a speeding ticket while I was in it once, that was pretty funny.

Except it made me late to work.

I'd be laughing pretty hard myself if that happened to me (or rather my driver)!

Over here we get flat tires (all the time), drunks, and those who want to practice saying happy birthday in English to us. :lmao:

when I think of cabs all that comes to mind are the Panamanians that were riding in cabs shooting at me from the back windows... but your luck has run out when it comes to cabs.

All caught up! Adorable doggy! :goodvibes

I remember reading your taxi story the first time around and laughing my butt off. :rotfl: There is no way in heck I'd pay the extra for the taxi ride when he didn't know where he was going. :sad2:

I think you've had worse luck with them than me.

I probably would have just paid it, I'm a total whimp when it comes to that sort of thing....unless I'm ticked off.. then I can go all country on them.

Loved the cab/dentist story! Although I do have pity too. I had my first root canal right before Thanksgiving. I still had the temporary in, so I made eating hard.

My mind wonders too. Makes it real hard to go to sleep at night.

Interesting on the vacation insurance. I guess I always figure our regular insurance would cover whatever might happen. Which isn't true I'm sure but so far it's worked out. We've really only had one incident traveling that I can think of and I didn't pay any more than I would have if I'd have gone to the ER at home.

Totally with you on the first one. Not so much scared as annoyed though. Like, I'm not going to argue with the guy in charge of driving the car so I'm just forced to listen to whatever claptrap he is spouting.

I always get trip insurance. I used to only get it when we went to Jamaica (in case one of us had to be care-flighted home) but ever since I had a flight home from Vegas canceled due to weather and had to pay for my own hotel, etc. I have bought it for domestic trips also. It's really pretty cheap.

I had a taxi get a speeding ticket while I was in it once, that was pretty funny.

Going back to Jamaica - they have buses to take you from your resorts back to the airport. We went past a roadblock one year and I guess our driver didn't have the right paperwork...and then he kind of argued with the cop saying it was the company's fault not his...and he had to drive to the jail! :scared1: We thought he was going to get arrested - they finally let him go, probably because he had a busload of tourists waiting on him. Poor guy, standing at the jail about to be arrested and we are all taking pictures out the window....

Over here we get flat tires (all the time), drunks, and those who want to practice saying happy birthday in English to us. :lmao:

On The Amazing Race it seems like in your part of the world (not your country specifically) a lot of them run out of gas. Is that common? We always figure they just don't keep a full tank because someone might come siphon it or something.

Note to self get directions from CM before getting in car with taxi driver...make sure taxi driver goes as CM directs ? :confused3
Hate when people take advantage of others and I'm sure that's what that guy was doing! argh. Glad Jordan let him know that it was not acceptable.

:rotfl2: that's a good idea

were in you in charge when the taxi got a ticket?

well....I did tell him I was running late, and did suggest the route but given that it was a well known speed trap I did not remotely feel responsible for the ticket.

It was the fastest route without speeding, he chose to speed all on his own!

who is Josh Powell?

Oh whoops! I guess that's more of a local story than national then. He took his 2 and 4 year old sons "camping" at midnight on a bitter cold night in December. Supposedly while he was gone his wife, Susan, went missing and no one has seen her since. Good ole Joshy won't cooperate with the police. Everyone is pretty much convinced he killed her. Shortly after this happened he packed up his West Valley house and moved to Pullyup (or however you spell it) to live with his dad.

Sorry to bring this terrific TR down! :)

Wow, pathetic that I don't know this story (but then again I avoid the news, trusting my DH to bring me down when appropriate) since I am in the area.

Puyallup.

Pew-AL-Lup

I have family that lives there. I'm about 90 minutes away though.

:goodvibes

I have taken taxis from Port Orleans to AKL and DD before, and both were expensive and the driver was never very friendly. Now you expect this in the city, but it kind of left me feeling sad in Disney. :sad1:

Yes, your typical conversation will run something like this if they want to practice their 5 words of English:

Xello! (the x is like a hard, back of the throat h)

Hello.

Xow arrrrrrrrrre you? (they can.NOT. not roll their r's)

Fine thank you.

Zank You!! (laugh, laugh, laugh)

Vuht is yourrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr nime?

(Insert fake Crapistani name)

OHhhhhhhhhhhhhh (in the local language), my sister-in-law's brothers half cousin has that name. She's a thief.

uh-huh.

Xappy Birzday!! (laugh, laugh, laugh) Whut zis mean??

Explanation.... (more laughing) Please stop here.

OK (in English)

Take your money, Older Respected "Uncle". (in local language)

OK, zank you- Gooooooood Bye!

The did have an episode here- the people in it were so lame, it was a pathetic few hours for them. Poor people.

They are ALWAYS running out of gas! Always!! They usually carry a little in the trunk, but if not, an empty platic coke bottle to get more. They only put in enough from the change they make throughout the day. I don't think it's that they think someone will siphon it off, but rather they think it wastes time to stop and fill up. Yes, believe it or not, that's what they think. :scared1: Most are barely scraping by, but it's easy work, and rather than work hard, they take the less lucrative, easy way out. I've had many, many ask for the fare before we start off, and he'll pull into the gas station and get whatever much my fare would buy.

Thanks for the correct spelling! Looks like I got most of the letters just in the wrong order! :) And I didn't know how to pronounce the city either so I'm glad to know now! Thanks!
