I think most people know/have heard of hip hop, break dancing, popping & locking and even krumping as a dance style but "black" or african-american is not a dance style. African is a style, yes but Abby was calling it ethnic or african and IMO it was neither of those. Traditional African dance has actual moves and is beautiful. What Nia was doing would most likely be considered just street dancing but I wouldn't even classify it as dancing at all, like her mom said...she basically walked around the stage and worked her afro and costume.
My DD is mixed and I too was annoyed at the episode where abby had Nia wearing an afro and leopard print catsuit. Nia's natural hair would have been beautifully perfect for the "dance" regardless of what style Abby was trying to pass it off as.

You think that Cathy's going to leave Vivi out of the spotlight for a second!?!? It's all about exposure, baby! And Cathy wants Vivi to be famous (even though Vivi's said it's not what she wants), so you know Cathy's going to stick Vivi in front of that camera at every cost!

In Pittsburgh? No way.
