Wow. It's really a mess out there, isn't it?

The mom's are mad, the girls are sad, the teacher is nuts.

Almost makes Toddlers and Tiaras look sane. I saw it for the first time last night. The outfits. They dance to a song saying "I want to be your fantasy girl" as they strutted and bent over chairs they brought out to the stage. It was awful and completely inappropriate, flip to T&T and there's a 3 year old dressed up like the Pretty Woman hooker, complete with fake building to sautner around and hang out in front of.

What...in...the...heck.

So, all the dance mom's that were complaining on the last T&T thread about how inappropriate the outfits are and how the whole thing is so wrong. Um...yah. Got a glimpse of the Competition Dance thing, not pretty either. I'm not sure which is more disturbing.

All for the love of reality TV, right?

Just watched a couple of episodes of Dance Moms last weekend, and I had to watch the new one tonight. Ok...the outfits are ridiculous. Not every single costume was inappropriate but plenty were! There is no way my daughter would wear that or do those moves. We will stick to Irish dance where you keep your arms covered!! Second, the dance teacher is crazy, but I get her. The moms however are CRAZY!!! Can they be any more self-centered????

DD and I watch this show simply because it makes us sit and say "OMG!" :lmao:

We watched on on the DVR last night where the teacher was wanting to make "chemistry" between a 13 year old girl and what I guess is a 13 year old boy. She sent them on a date. And the dance they did was a little too "dirty dancing" for my taste. Even the girl's mom commented on it! If that had been my dd, I would have commented loud and clear in the studio while telling that lady she is NUTS and dd is NOT doing that dance with that boy!

I can't believe what some of these moms put up with from that teacher.

Dance teacher is crazy.

Moms are crazy.

Glad I have boys.

And I thought sports were bad...holy mackeral.

I cant help but watch:lmao:

There is nothing "reality" with this show.

My DD (11) has been in Comp Dance for 5 years, I have attended almost 100 competitions, and have witnessed thousands of routines, (300+ per competition) and have never, ever seen a single routine that would compare to what they show on this program.

It's a trash show with the producers engineering and pushing the situations to the extreme.

And for the record, i am a DANCE DAD....

We love Dance Moms (because they're crazy). However, Irish Dance can be crazy too. As someone who's dining room rug has been rolled, and the wood floor covered in paper, so that her girls can practice hours a day (their idea, not mine), who's dance teachers have mandated that they must Feis at least 5 times before the Oireachtas, who have weekly private lessons, dance 5 times a week, who have more muscle than female body builders, who have thousands of dollars invested in solo dresses, shoes, and wigs, part of me can relate to Dance Moms. Dd10 is determined to qualify for Worlds.

Not all dance moms are that way and not all little girls that dance wear risque costumes. DD20 use to do competition dancing and we had a blast with it. She loved dressing up and dancing so it was a good thing for her. We had one rule-we did it for fun. If it became not fun, we were done. There was nothing serious about it.

I did see many moms that just went stupid if their daughter dropped the baton or missed a step, but that wasn't us. I hated it for the little girls with those moms though.

DD, is it me or are the routines those girls do just not that good? Because, now maybe it's because I know nothing about it, but those routines the girls do on the show look lousy to me.

I LOVE watching Dance Moms!!! Those people are crazy!!! I can't believe all the yelling they do in front of the kids...that is unreal.

I was in Irish dance from age 3-16, but not competitive after age 6 (we moved). I did parades, parties, nursing homes, Highland games, Irish festivals, etc. My DD is 3 and I have been teaching her to point and count, etc. There is an Irish dance studio here but I am pretty unhappy about what seems to be the style now - big-haired wigs and florescent dresses with several pounds of glitter and sequins. Don't know if I want to be a part of that.

That is the current world of ID. We also do parades, parties, and nursing homes. Our girls our "pimped" out a lot around St. Patrick's Day (makes money for the school). Next month, a movie that opened in Ireland comes to the US on DVD, called JIG (you can google the trailer). It's a documentary that accurately portrays ID today. And yes, the dresses are very heavy! And the spray tanning! Although I have to admit, the level of dancing is amazing - these girls work their butts off.

I have heard of JIG. Spray tanning....I never saw a dancer with a tan when I was dancing! Our dresses were heavy with embroidery, and we wore rollers overnight to get our curls. By the time I was a teenager I quit curling my hair anyway. I was always super busy around St. Patrick's Day. I used to get the day off from school and start at 4:00 am on a local morning show. I was 12 when the original Eurovision Riverdance came out, and I remember staying up all night with my teacher (who wasn't accredited, so we couldn't compete) so memorize Jean Butler's slip jig. The show was really good for getting us more jobs!

This is my current favorite show. It is hilarious and as OP said....whack. But it is TV. I read an interview with Abby Lee that said the whole pyramid thing was pushed by the producers....she never did that before. And there is one show where you can hear someone in the background feeding Vivianne a line.

That being said...I cant wait to see next week when Cathy and her Candy Apples show up to exact her revenge!!! :rotfl2:

I would love to see a reality show about that. That is a good idea for one.

I want to see a showdown with Abby Lee Dance and Candy Apples studio. Separate the "men from the boys". :lmao:

It's coming!! The showdown is almost here. This show may be a little bit extreme, but as an all star cheerleading mom whose daughter competes at an extremely high level I can tell you that things like this DO happen. Parents have screaming matches with each other & coaches, etc. Parents drink at comps, they were skimpy outfits, makekup etc. It is not all for the show, and if it is they can come film at our gym, it would save them the prep time, we have drama anyway!

All I know is I've never seen any sport/competition where they competed with brand new routines everytime. Everyone I know learns a routine or two every 'season' and competes with it. How the heck are they supposed to do well with no practice. It's just set up for drama. Addictive drama, but drama.

Around here, the kids in Dance start in Sept, and work through to march on their number/routine. Then from March until July they move through various competitions/levels.

My daughter is in 6 styles of group dance (Jazz, Tap, Hip hop, Musical Theater, Contemporary, Ballet) and then has three Solos (Tap/Musical Theater/Contemporary).

There are no "rivalries" -- in fact we rarely compete against the same studio in any one level.. and it seems that ALL the dancers support all the other dancers in their routines. The cheer, hoot, clap, and congratulate each other, I have even seen girls from a few different studios hang out and choreograph a new routine while waiting for their number.

(I have seen jealousy within the studios, where one girl gets promoted up the line and knocks out the prima) but that is going to happen everywhere.

The routines are pretty bad because the girls are not in sync. There are a few talented dancers but the routines are not clean. They would NEVER win at the competitions I have seen. Big school teams and some dance academy girls. Our HS girls practice for months on the same routines.

I have to admit I can't stop watching this show even though it is trash. I still LOL about that awful Where.Have.All.The.Children.Gone routine ugh...

It all depends. There is way more drama on my DS's soccer team than on my DD's all star cheer. It is all about what the coaches allow, and the coaches themselves.
