Dance mom's are wack

The thought that those girls will be performing the I wanna be your fantasy girl dance all year in competition embarrassed me for them. What an awful routine. The outfits are awful, the moves are awful and the song is awful. Poor things. They are never going to win with that number. All that work for nothing, that dance instructor is out of her mind.

I want to see a showdown with Abby Lee Dance and Candy Apples studio. Separate the "men from the boys". :lmao:

You might get your wish! The previews for next week showed Candy Apples dancers and the Mom (can't remember her name?) coming face to face with Abby Lee and her girls!

Of course, Candy Apples were dressed head-to-toe in red sweat suits. And this comes from Cathy who wouldn't adhere to the ALDS rules of dressing the same to be easily spotted, but apparently makes her students do it. I cannot wait to see what happens and how "good" Cathy's dancers are.

I loved how, last week, Vivi-Anne said her mom wants her to be famous and she doesn't want to be famous! Indicative of a lot of Cathy pushing her to dance. And, I thought that Vivi-Anne was a very sloppy dancer, so what does that say for Cathy and her studio!?

I think the only Mom with a good head on her shoulders is Holly. However, I do think that Nia does need to step it up. She's been looking inconsistent lately.

The routines are pretty bad because the girls are not in sync. There are a few talented dancers but the routines are not clean. They would NEVER win at the competitions I have seen. Big school teams and some dance academy girls. Our HS girls practice for months on the same routines.

I have to admit I can't stop watching this show even though it is trash. I still LOL about that awful Where.Have.All.The.Children.Gone routine ugh...

That's the thing -- it's a new routine every competition and the girls have like, less than a week to learn them. That is insane for little kids! It's no wonder the routines are sloppy -- not enough time to finesse them.

I have to say that I love how the girls didn't win when they did the routine with the skimpy hooker costumes! The moms were calling it and Abby Lee insisted it was a winner. Ha!

Wow. It's really a mess out there, isn't it?

The mom's are mad, the girls are sad, the teacher is nuts.

Almost makes Toddlers and Tiaras look sane. I saw it for the first time last night. The outfits. They dance to a song saying "I want to be your fantasy girl" as they strutted and bent over chairs they brought out to the stage. It was awful and completely inappropriate, flip to T&T and there's a 3 year old dressed up like the Pretty Woman hooker, complete with fake building to sautner around and hang out in front of.

What...in...the...heck.

So, all the dance mom's that were complaining on the last T&T thread about how inappropriate the outfits are and how the whole thing is so wrong. Um...yah. Got a glimpse of the Competition Dance thing, not pretty either. I'm not sure which is more disturbing.

All for the love of reality TV, right?
This show is in NO WAY reperesetative of my experieces as a competition dancer or of my child's expereinces with dance to this point. These people are crazy!

Watch the next episode. I expect Abby to clean up based on what i have seen of Vivi.

Their problem is that they are doing new coreo. every week. Of course it is not gonig to be clean in a week with 8-11 year old dancers. I don't know why she can't let them do the same dance for at least a few weeks at a time? Our teachers push that kind of thing in the studio, but would never put something they have only been doing for a week on the stage. The kind of pressure she is putting on them does nothing to advance them as a dancer.

We love Dance Moms (because they're crazy). However, Irish Dance can be crazy too. As someone who's dining room rug has been rolled, and the wood floor covered in paper, so that her girls can practice hours a day (their idea, not mine), who's dance teachers have mandated that they must Feis at least 5 times before the Oireachtas, who have weekly private lessons, dance 5 times a week, who have more muscle than female body builders, who have thousands of dollars invested in solo dresses, shoes, and wigs, part of me can relate to Dance Moms. Dd10 is determined to qualify for Worlds.
Oh man....I do remember the days when my dd was heavily into Irish Step. Thank heaven her studio wasn't into the more competitive areas. Her teacher was a professional step dancer, but had no aspirations of her girls doing all the other 'stuff'....wigs, thousand dollar outfits. So, while my dd was very good, it wasn't over the top. We do miss it though. She got busy and something had to give.

I do have to say that Abby Lee tends to give dance teachers a bad name. I know a lot of girls who dance competitively. IN fact, our dance school's owner sent her dd to StarShine in Orlando...won heavily. The kid is a truly gifted dancer. She is incredible. You can dance competively and not lose sight of real life.
Those poor girls are evidently in the studio, dancing many, many hours a week. Homework doesn't get done, and then you add all that travel??? Sure do hope they are planning on careers in dance..otherwise, they are going to be suited for nothing else. And the mothers??? Seriously??? The day has yet to come when you'll see me sitting around sewing mulitple dance outfits or traveling on a bus for days in order to get to a competition. All whack jobs.

As a non dance mom but who has had friends of my dd's who danced...I can't believe these girls win competitions...they seem like just mediocre dancers. Am I wrong?

Good to know, lol. Those people are nuts.

Those girls are extrodinary dancers. You realize Maddie is only 8 and has near perfect technique as far as I can see. I don't see how you can say they are mediocre. Brooke can do things I've never seen anyone do. That said...Abby is crazy...the Moms are crazy....and I don't believe for a second that Cathy is a "real" person. That is such a plant for added drama. No one can act like her for real.

Our family loves this show. Eldest DD is a competitive dancer, so we know that so much of this show is not a representation of reality. Each week is 'preparing for Nationals'. Since they would have had to qualify for Nationals at the regional competition, the best way they could prepare is to practice the same dance more than one week. DD also noticed that Madi was wearing her solo costume at one point in Vegas, so we are thinking she may have competed there after all, even though they said she did not.

It was just evil having the red circle and line through Vivi-Anne's picture. Then Cathy (Kathy?) doing her own pyramid back at her studio. We are looking forward to the showdown next week. Don't care who wins, it will just be fun watching the drama.

Does the owner of the studio...Abby Lee (is that her name?)...was she a dancer in her youth or does she have a daughter who teaches at her studio?

I am so glad to know that not all women who live up north act like this. Living in the South you know we bend over backward to be polite. It is how we are raised. I see these women screaming at each other and can't imagine spending any time with them after that. I did have one white trash mother cuss me out as team mom for the peewee football team. I was so shocked. No one has ever yelled at me like that. I just said I don't have to take this and walked off.

You SO don't get your own reality tv show.

NEXT!

Abby Lee Dance Studio is a mile from my house. (Penn Hills, a suburb of Pittsburgh) I have a lot of friends who sent their daughters there to dance and ended up leaving after a year or two.
That woman is something else!:scared1:

I had enough warnings about the place and sent my daughter to a different dance studio, but I did get to meet Abby one time when she was involved in working with some girls from my daughters school for a video. I didn't like her and wouldn't want my daughter around her.

Does the owner of the studio...Abby Lee (is that her name?)...was she a dancer in her youth or does she have a daughter who teaches at her studio?

She doesn't have any children and in one of her interviews, she did say she was a dancer, but at 14 or 15 or something decided that choreography and teaching others was her thing.:confused3

This is my reality tv indulgence. I don't watch any of the others, I really don't like reality tv and know a lot is set up/arranged/ goaded by the producers.

That said... I can't stop watching!

Cathy is insane. Not only does she have her own studio, she's driving 2 1/2 hrs ONE WAY. I live 45min outside Pittsburgh and today I drove from Stark Co (where her studio is)... I would never commit to doing that on a regular basis, especially w/ our weather. I feel bad for her poor daughter, who doesn't even like to dance. :rotfl:

The other moms are nuts also.
And where in the world do they get the money to afford all this? Lessons, private lessons, costumes, bus/ plane tickets, hotel, food?? They probably pitched the show idea to the network b/c they needed money!

Actually, I have not seen the show but I think it's hilarious that the dance moms are now being portrayed in the same light as pageant moms.

All everyone ever said about Toddlers & Tiaras is that the moms should put the daughters in dance or gymnastics because that was so much better. However, I knew there are pushy over the top parents in EVERY activity.

I knew good & well Toddlers & Tiaras is edited to make good television. If anyone has sat through a pageant where there are 180 girls competing...it would make for VERY dull television.

My DD was a gymnast, has done dance, ice skating & *gasp* has done pageants. In reality, they are all basically the same. My DD was so complaining about gymnastics at times and I can guarantee you if you cut those out of context it would look like I was the evil pushy parent. Now, she physically can never do gymnastics again (not related to it) and ALL I ever hear is how she misses it and regrets that she had back surgery, etc... All I think about was "wait...what happened to those "I hate this, I don't want to go" days?"

In the pageants she does, there is no swimsuit competition and basically you can win or lose it in interview. All it takes is 1 point to make a difference and she actually wore less revealing clothing & WAY less make-up in her pageants that she ever did in gymnastics or dance. Of course, she also does theatre which is a whole other ball of wax with costumes & make-up.

I was a dancer for about 5 years and I never had a teacher that came close to the way Abby Lee Miller is with her students. Granted I danced in a pre-professional/professional ballet company and yes the teacher is tough but she never belittled us and made us or our parents feel inferior. She was tough but she cared about her students and made sure that they were succeeding and going the distance. She gave us all an equal chance and she was very fair. Abby is not fair and the way she treats these girls is not right. She is just unbelievable. I am also a competitive figure skater of 14 years and sometimes some of the stuff you see on Dance Mom's I've seen at a competition ( in fact, there was one incident where a mother was upset that I had placed higher than her daughter and she went to the judges and demanded that they take my medal away from me).

The show is addicting to see what happens next. I missed this week, can anyone fill me in??

Me too, I am addicted.

I can't believe the mothers actually pay to have Abby Lee in their lives.

I just have to say this show is INSANE! I watch a bunch of reality TV and this tops my list as the worst. That Abby woman must be a miserable human being. With all this being said, I'm sure I'll keep watching it cuz of its train wreck ways.

BTW this is not my first post, I just can't remember my user name and had not posted in a long time. I decided to start fresh. Seemed like a good place to begin :rotfl:
