Dance Moms - anyone still watching?

Let's face it, no one cares about those kids. After all the show is called "Dance MOMS" and Abby's name is all over it. They're using those kids for the 15 minutes of fame.

I just watched the most recent episode today. I have to say I'm mostly on Abby's side too. Not because I think she's a wonderful human being. I would never allow her to speak to my kids they way she treats the girls on the show. However, it's Abby's studio. It's Abby's dance team. She gets to call the shots. She gets to choose who get the solos. If the moms don't like it, they can vote with their money and take their business elsewhere. Abby said, "Sorry. I'm running a business." Very true. In turn, no one has to patronize that business.

I don't feel sorry for the moms. They are adults who signed contracts with full knowledge of how Abby operates. All of the girls are very talented and each one could likely find a dance studio with a much more positive atmosphere. Why don't they? Because their moms love the attention and the payout that comes with it. They can moan and groan all they want. The bottom line is that they are choosing to be there. They are allowing their girls to be yelled at and belittled. No sympathy here, except for the girls.

I felt sorry for the girls too. My opinion, if Chloe got some of the attention that is showered on Maddie she would be fantastic.

tmz and other outlets are reporting that Kelly has filed a lawsuit against abby and the producers of dance moms for $5 million dollars.

Exactly!

Chloe, Paige and Brooke are not taking "lessons" from Abby but were still contracted to do the show. That is why the three of them had to go to NY while the other girls went to that Nuvo competition (which I heard does not allow filming). I have zero respect for some woman saying "that girl" and wouldn't use Chloe's name. Abby purposely gave Paige and Chloe drab outfits and taught the duet a day before whereas Maddy and Kulani had their dance for months, had sparkly pretty outfits. Watching Abby do that to kids, I can't condone for one moment. How the adults act, that's another story.

Melissa's new husband bailed Abby out of debt as she was at the point of bankruptsy.

This show was always a train wreck but it just gets worse and worse.

I love Chloe and definetly think she is right up there with Maddie if not better. She did win Nationals a couple years ago.
I read that Abbys behavior is all a put on . That may have been true in the beginning but she is just nasty nasty nasty. I know she turns out great dancers but at what price?

I am so tired of Maddie . I secretly hopes she messes up everytime she dances. Cruel and juvenile I know.
I also heard about Abbys bankruptcy but I thought it was the contract with Dance Moms that bailed her out.
Interesting about Melissas husband.

Where are all the ALDC alumni? I mean, she's been in business for awhile, where are all her protégés?

Maddie is truly talented and even Mackenzie is really coming along. I cannot differentiate between the girls sometimes when in costume, meaning Mackenzie blends in now instead of sticking out like a baby. Is it because these 2 are the only ones Abby really cares about? Is it because they take extra lessons because of the homeschooling? IDK.

Brooke should not still be dancing with these girls. She is too old. She looks uninterested. It is very probable that Brooke and Paige were only still there because of contracts.

IMO Abby is not calling the shots. Abby is paid to say and do what the producers tell her. From what I saw last week's episode was a situation manipulated to push Kelly & her daughters out the door with the producers guaranteed an upper hand so she couldn't say you have to pay me even if you want me gone.

What is interesting is if Christie & Chloe are indeed also gone. I believe it was Christie who answered a casting call that brought the show to Abby's door, saving her bacon. Abby's financial straights and Abby's spiralling ever lower treatment of all girls not named Maddie seem much more logical when viewed in the light of strongly worded contracts.

One of our local dance studios went to the Atlanta audition/competition. I talked to the teachers who told me it was mostly staged. Like the woman who stood up and yelled "Giver her a second chance!" came with the crew and was a total plant. The teacher said the "competition" was really small and they had the ALDC girls redo their dances several times because they kept messing up. She said Abby was pretty nice when the cameras were off.

I am intrigued by the whole Kelly thing. Cant wait to see how that plays out.

I wonder when Maddie gets older and goes to auditions, will she go crazy when she doesn't get the part or gets critiqued? Abby treats her like she does no wrong, so I wonder if it would be a major shock to her.

I agree with some of it being staged. Was on my treadmill watching this and have noticed that the times that Abby really goes off, it does not look like the girls are in the room. Thank goodness. If this were real, I can't imagine the mom's subjecting their daughters to this witch. My DD has been in several different activities and had disciplined teaches/coaches, but if any of them were like Abby, I'd be grabbing my kid an running away.

I really hope for the girls sake that it is staged and they understand it. Or at least make enough money off the show to pay for good therapy later on!

Yep, one of those who can't stop watching the train wreck.

Don't watch often it but something about women fighting intrigues me :)

DD watches and I only step in front of the TV where there is some yelling going on. Watching that one mom slap Abby and pull her hair in this last episode was awesome!

I thought I had seen JoJo in the background at one of those auditions. So seriously...those were actually the AUDC auditions and not for her new team?!?! That is very misleading.

When I saw JoJo I assumed she was trying out for a spot on Abby's team since she didn't win the show

Those we my thoughts too

Abby is pathetic, calling the cops on Kelly all because she pulled Abby's hair and what appeared to be a light slap on her face. Talk about a waste of law enforcement time, and resources in terms of court costs on behalf of NY tax payers. I've seen far worse happen and the cops never got called. I'm not condoning violence, but Abby had it coming and more or less instigated that situation by getting in Kelly's face, yet Abby sat back and played the poor me role.

All of the competitions since the first season have been invitationals, not open competitions. A few studios are invited and they only offer the categories that Abby has dancers competing in. Sometimes there may only be a few competitors, like maybe only 2 trios, so the girls on the show will come in either first or second. They could let every girl have a sol every week, but that wouldn't make for a very interesting. They film the dances more than once, but that doesn't mean they are scored more than once. They also do things like edit the show to make it seem like 2 girls were in the same age group when really they weren't competing against each other at all.

As far as the fight last week, I don't think Kelly should have made contact at all, but it would be hard not to at least poke someone who was lunging at you like that when you're pointing. It was cropped pretty tight, I wonder if Abby's lower body bumped her first. I still don't think it's ok to pull hair like that, but I can see the situation escalating if you are bumped and feel threatened by that.

In the end, for me, a lot of the over the top things Abby and Cathy say or do cross a line, but the mothers put their kids in those situations for the sake of getting their kids on TV. Yes, they have second thoughts and are stuck in contracts they're not happy with, but they thought it would help their kids' careers to be on the show, and these are the storylines, and I'm sure they realize that if they just smile or shrug at Abby's rankings and comments, their kids might be off the show and the benefits that come with it.

Knowing this is so scripted, I'm really disgusted with the way they've shown featuring Nia for the ethnic roles. Granted, from what I've seen Nia really wouldn't be scoring featured spots in most competitive dance teams in her age group yet, but I wish the producers had brain enough to come up with something else to hang it on.
