Day 7 – 27th December – Epcot and the Segway tour.

The cast:
Me (Karen) mad planner and disaholic

Pete, my husband, hates planning, goes along with what we happen to be doing

Andrew, best friend and Disney mad

Sue, best friend, married to Andrew, also Disney mad but doesn’t often admit it (although admits it more these days!)

OK, today was another day that I have been looking forward to for a while. Even though we had a long day yesterday I was up bright and early at 6:45am and was by the Market Place door at 7am to get coffee. We had a quick breakfast and left the villa at 7:45 to walk over to the International Gateway. We had to meet at guest relations inside Epcot by 8:15. Once the whole group had gathered we headed over to the classroom. Firstly we watched a short safety video before been shown how to ride the segway. We began by practicing moving, turning, stopping, going up and down hills and then had a go weaving around the cones. I was surprised at how quickly we felt we were going on our segways even though we were only doing around 4 mph. Once everyone was happy with their skills we headed out on to the world showcase. We learned a little about each country as we zoomed around. Soon we were able to have a little free time to run around and take photos with the Epcot ball in the background. Then we travelled on. As people were more confident now we zoomed around areas of Germany, through the pillars and shopping area in Morocco, around the little hedge maze by the American Adventure and over the bridges in Japan. By now the world showcase was open to the public so we had to ride in single file again. So we headed past France, through the UK area and back to the classroom to end the tour. We had many people wave at us, heard lots of “I want a go on one of those” and had lots of pictures taken of us! I really enjoyed myself and would definitely do this tour again.

By now it was 10:30am so we decided to head straight for Soarin to get fast passes for later. When we got there the machines were not working so cast members were just giving the passes out without scanning our tickets. So we each got a FP with a return time of 3pm. Then we decided to have a quick coffee. I suddenly realised that as our passes had not been scanned for Soarin we would be able to get another one. So we headed over to Test Track and got fast passes with a return time of 4pm. We decided to head off to the world showcase to look around the countries. I wanted to get an Epcot passport signed in each country as a souvenir for my classroom at school (I teach 10 year olds.) So we headed off around the countries to get all the stamps. Whilst in Japan I decided to treat myself and I choose an oyster and had the pearl put on to a ring which I loved. At just before 2pm we headed back to the villa for lunch as the park was getting busier and the weather was warm.

We headed back to Epcot at 2:45 and went over to Soarin. We were glad we had the passes as they had all been distributed by now and there was a 2 ½ hour line for the ride. We rode the front row and I loved the ride. I loved the movement, sights and smells. Then we headed over to Test Track. Again we were glad we had fast passes as there was a 2 hour line and all the passes had gone for the day. We decided now would be a good time for a spot of shopping before catching the boat over to the American Pavilion to see the American Adventure before our Candle Light Processional time of 6:45. We zoomed across to the CP as soon as we got out of American Adventure and we still got good seats. I really enjoyed the show, I love theatre and singing and I so wanted to join in. I have to admit that being English I had never heard of John Stamos or any of the shows he was in but he was a very good narrator, extremely animated.

As soon as the show was over we headed over to our dinner package meal at Alfredo de Roma. I had read mixed reviews about this place. Although it was quite crowded it wasn’t that bad. The food was OK, but nothing special. We did however feel that the meal was a bit rushed. As we were seated early for our dinner we were finished early and we were able to wonder around the world showcase for a while and got a good spot on the bridge between the UK and France to watch Illuminations. I loved the holiday ending, it was even better close up, during the finale there were that many fireworks you could actually feel the bridge jumping!! After Illuminations we headed back to bed, it had been another long day and Pete and I had to get up early again tomorrow for yet another long day (we are being naughty and going to the U place!!!!)

I've really enjoyed reading your report. I'm glad you managed the crowds so well and seemed to have had such a great time.
