Day 5 – 25th December – SSR Spa and generally relaxing

The cast:

Me (Karen) mad planner and disaholic

Pete, my husband, hates planning, goes along with what we happen to be doing

Andrew, best friend and Disney mad

Sue, best friend, married to Andrew, also Disney mad but doesn’t often admit it (although admits it more these days!)

Had a bit of a lie in this morning and got up at 8am. Andrew and Sue had already gone out for coffee and pastries for breakfast as it was Christmas day. We ate our breakfast and made phone calls home to wish our families merry Christmas. As a surprise I had ordered a gift basket from Peggy for Andrew and Sue. She had made us a gorgeous basket with a Christmas Eeyore in with lots of wonderful chocolates. After breakfast Andrew and Pete drove Sue and I down to Saratoga Springs Spa. I had really been looking forward to today as I love spa treatments. Sue had a reflexology treatment and I had a mystical forest massage – Swedish massage and reflexology. The treatments were excellent and I wish we had more time to spend there. But we had to get back to the villa as Pete and Andrew were cooking Christmas dinner (roast turkey, veg, the whole works!!) So we walked over to Down Town Disney to catch the bus back. As we were near the Christmas shop and it was Christmas day I couldn’t resist so I popped in and bought a few more decorations (I never thought I would ever be able to say that I was buying Christmas decorations in Disney World on Christmas day!) The bus seemed to take ages to come (this was where I appreciated the fact that we had hired a car.) The bus finally arrived but as it had to stop at the Swan, Dolphin and the Yacht Club before it got to the Beach Club we decided to get off at the first stop and then walk back to the villa past the Boardwalk. The weather was beautiful so it was a nice relaxing walk. Then we got back to the villa we could smell the dinner cooking down the hallway, it smelt amazing.

After dinner we relaxed around the villa for a while and then we decided to go for a walk around the Boardwalk. We all commented that it didn’t really feel like Christmas day to us, it was weird being somewhere warm at Christmas. After our walk we got back and tidied up the villa as we had invited Emily and her mum over for a drink before their meal at Cape May. When they had left for dinner we decided it would be nice to go for a swim (again I never thought I would ever be swimming in an outside pool on Christmas day either.) We spent a while in the pool and the Jacuzzi whilst Sue cooked us pizza for dinner. As we had another early start tomorrow we decided to head for bed early. It had been a great day, the most relaxing Christmas day ever.

I can't think of anything better than buying Christmas decorations on Christmas Day in WDW :)
