He got into Perth, his first choice, at Western! Perth was brand new last year and he is thrilled.

He will be in a double room (which is kind of L -shaped) but there are only 2 double rooms to a "unit", which has it's own bathroom so he will only have to share it with 3 other students.

If anyone is interested in the residences at Western, here is the website: http://www.uwo.ca/hfs/housing/residence/index.htm There are virtual tours of each residence and their facilities.

It looks fabulous!
I am sooo happy things have worked out for him since he was so disappointed last year!
Good things come to those who wait.
The room looks nicer than the one I had. At least they get a bit of privacy and are not right next to each other!
It also looks like they have a huge storage space for bikes and stuff! Much more useful than when i went to UNI!
All the best Dan...
You've only got 33 days!!!!

Glad he was able to get Perth Julie I still say he would have had a much better time at Saugeen though.

Hi Julie,

Since my nephew is head soph at Perth I am biased. It is a very nice residence though. In no time at all he'll be totally oriented.
Tell him Good Luck from the people who work at this fine establishment.:hyper:

That is great news, Julie! My DD got a private room on the 'arts' (music) floor at Queens. Not co-ed, but that's okay. Be sure to tell Dan to check out the Used Book Store, when it comes time to buy (and sell!) his books. He'll love Western, and if my nephew is any indication, should have a grand time!

Glad he got the residence that he wanted
Good luck Dan

Is it only 33 days to go, Suzanne? It seems like yesterday that I was counting the days to his arrival, just like you are! Congratulations!! I like the layout of the room too and the extra storage space will be wonderful!

I know you are just kidding, right?, LisaSt! ;)

Debbie, he is hoping to buy some books from his friend who has already finished first year. Depending on which edition the profs want to use this year, I hope he can buy as many used books as possible. Hope your DD enjoys the music floor! Did she get what she wanted, even though it's not co-ed?

I hope Dan gets on well with your nephew, Susan! (what does a head soph do anyway? I'm still new at all of this. LOL)

Thanks, Janet and Mike and for all the "Good Lucks"! :)

Julie, Rachel wanted co-ed, but is pleased with her second choice. A single gender floor should help the studying :teeth: . She's going to do concurrent music and education (english), so she's going to be busy. She and her sister (13) did a good lot of packing today, so I think that she is getting excited.

Dan will like Perth, and I think that the head soph encourages everyone to shave the word "perth" into their head. Don't worry....it 'grows out! along with the goatee :earseek:

When does Dan move in? Lucky for us, Queens does the move in day on the Sunday!

Debbie, Dan's move in day is Monday, September 6 and I don't think he's even thought about packing yet!

I know what you mean about a single gender floor and studying. ;) I'm hoping that having 2 doors to his room will help keep things quiet, at least.

I think they will have a hard time getting Dan to shave "perth" into his hair. He got a hair cut today and I asked him "which hair"? At least I can see his eyes now. As far as a goatee, he's had one for quite some time now, though he periodically shaves it off.

Guess the big day is going to come soon enough, isn't it!

I'll wave to him daily as I drive to work. Although I suspect he'll still be sleeping as I pass by. ;-)

- Mike

Congratulations to Dan!and to happy Mom too!

LOL Mike, you are probably right!

Yes, I am so pleased he wasn't given the "Zoo"! ;)

Congrats to Dan! He'll love Perth.
The sophs are volunteer students who help the freshmen with orientation. They walk them all over the campus to the various events. As you know, it's a huge campus and they don't want anyone getting lost. They are also there on move-in day to help the kids move their stuff up to their rooms. They try to make sure that the kids have fun during O-week and to answer any questions that they have. The kids don't actually shave "Perth" into their heads (well mine did last year:rolleyes: but he was the exception).

Great news Julie. Do you have a BIG pile of stuff to go in your living room. I do. That's my excuse for not cleaning at the moment. Jeff moves in on Sept. 4th. We'll have to have a good cry together. See you soon.

I wondered where he would end up – I secretly hoped for the zoo – I met my husband there and feel in "love at first sight". I suspect I was a wholesome influence though as I went to OCA. Happily married for 8 wonderful years! Congratulations to Dan – it really is a wonderful university and my favourite Canadian city. Tell him to have a cider and some nachos at Joe Kools for me. (Just one though, not the five or six I was once young and stupid enough to drink!)

Julie he is going to love frosh week that is the biggest party of the year next to homecoming. Congrats on his getting his first choice though even if I was biased and hoped he would get the ZOO.

BTW, Julie, both Susan and I work at or near UWO, so if you feel the need to find out what is really going on with him, just be sure to let us know.... ;)

- Mike

I even have a closer connection to Perth Hall:smooth:

Since I work with the students I hear and see lots of interesting  things.

It's so peaceful here now but in 4 and a half weeks it will be chaos.:earseek:

I think it keeps you young though. Right Mike??:hyper:
