I'm glad I found this thread. I'm thinking about signing up as an Assistant Leader for my DD's Daisy troup. It will be her first year and I'd love to move up when she does and was told that it was ok to do that.
I was talking about it with my mother in law and she told me it was good and bad and here is her reasonings...
Good:
* Helping out
* Spending time with DD / plus a hobby for me
Bad:
* Too much time with DD
* DD needs to develop her own personality
She sometimes think that I'm trying to have DD just like me and says that she needs to develop her own personality and do things she wants (by the way, she's 5). Well, we tend to teach them what we know and till they get older, they want to do some things that you do. To me, her personality is going to change so many times over the years. It was DD idea to go into girl scouts and she asked me why I couldn't stay. My DD also wants to hunt with daddy, she'll have a daughter/father activity as well (I personally hate hunting). What's wrong with spending quality time with your children?
DD is in Kindergarten all day.
I'd love to have a mother/daughter activity - there are parents that see it as a babysitting service but I think it could benefit the both of us. I could learn a few things from it as well.
Am I wrong for considering becoming an Assistant Leader? They have over 100 girls this year and could use the extra help and I'd love the opportunity to do this with my daughter...
Do you think I'm trying to hinder her having her own personality???
